Since i’ts been confirmed that 2022 Ram 1500 will support Uconnect 5, do you think that 2019 Ram 1500 owners will be able to update their system to Uconnect 5. If not, do you think we will be able to replace our current infotainment aiment system with the new Uconnect 5 version?

Info: I currently own a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited.

you need to replace the screen, radio module, and get adapter harnesses. You might want to read through this thread. Lots of info and importantly info on what you "lose" when doing this upgrade.
I didn't think i would be losing anything as i have a 12' existing. I will read thru the whole thread. thanks

Bluetooth and WiFi connections are on the radio module, not on the screen.
If going from uc4 8” to uc5 12”

I have the screen, radio, and alpha and all.

I have noticed from my instructions I had received that I have a green, pink and burgundy cable from my uc4 radio on the 8”

On the uc5 I have a plug with 2 pigtails but no colors and a beige connector as well.

Obviously right now I have no info for hotspot, which I would love to get back. But really trying to figure out what these cable may go to to get whatever functions I am still missing and to get them working right.

Screen seems to be working but I noticed ability to use the cargo cam I was using for the uc4 8” for my front camera disappeared, and the hotspot

So these 3 cables I feel are the culprit

Anyone figure this out?

Update***
After going through thread again I found jimmy said that
Green is the bt/wifi but are yall reusing. This plugging in somewhere on uc5?

Purple/burgundy is a small wedge antennae (not sure what it does)

Pink is lte antennae

Seems these should get reused. Anyone know where in this pic the these would go?

1- correct, but this is already common knowledge. There are other means to get the updates.
2- correct, this is common knowledge also, and I don’t think people that would be doing the swap care about that.
3- Cell service? As in, the WiFi hotspot? That still works. I have the hotspot working on the 12” radio that’s transplanted into my 2017.
4- no other modules will need to be changed on a 2019+ ram
5- no PROXI alignment necessary for ram trucks. They use a powernet configuration, not proxi configuration. AlfaOBD definitely works on ram trucks, and will be necessary for this swap.
I think this swap will work no problem. I’m just waiting on a radio module that’s 3 months backordered.
HI, Jimmy how did u got the cell service, wifi hotspot, working in the transplanted radio? i just did a swap/upgrade on my 2020 12 inch to a uc5 2023 radio module, screen and telematics module, but no services are showing in the screen.

We now know the green doesn’t seem to get used anymore.

The purple and pink are the Wi-Fi and cellular antennas will connect to a telematics box. Along with the mustard colored Sirius antenna. Then the blue goes from the telematic box to the radio.

The telematic box is my current missing piece. Hopefully can get one soon to see if we can get this working

I recently upgraded from uconnect4 8.4 to uconnect5 8.4 and everything is working great except the radio doesnt show usb as an available source option. The usb hub is working, it will charge phones and light up the light on my thumb drive just no option to select it as a source. If I plug in a phone it pops up on the radio and asks if I want to set up android auto and I also performed a radio software update from the usb. So I know the media hub is connected and working. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it?

So I've already gone from UC4 8.4 to UC4 12. Reading through this thread it looks like I just need a UC5 screen (68526598AC; I don't have lane keep but would like to add it in the future) and a UC5 module (68504644AF) along with the harness. Am I missing anything else?

You said you went from uc4 8” to uc5 8”? And everything is working? Like all of the connected services? Ie WiFi, emergency sos, remote management etc?

At the moment you will also need a telematics Module and wiring too. For the connected services. Many of the people selling these won’t tell you that till after you have bought the system and you already have. If you can live without the connected services then yeah but you will need obd reader and alpha obd to change the settings in bcm too

Hello all. Getting ready to tackle this upgrade shortly, and there is one point of the programming that is a little blurry to me (before you come at me, yes, I read the entire 14 pages :)).

I'll be upgrading from a. 8.4" UC4 non-nav to a 12" UC5 nav. I have surround view 360 using the UC4 CVPM PN 68318033AH. My confusion is on the model year change in ALFA. Is it only required to produce an image on the screen from the incorrect CVPM, or is it a permanent change? Once I upgrade to the correct CVPM, does the model year setting go back to stock?

Thanks,

Eric

you have to change the model year and no it does not go back to stock after swapping the CVPM. The model year has to match the year of the radio module or the cameras will not work. I don't have the 360 surround view and I had to change it.

So I successfully swapped out my 8.4" non-nav UC4 for a 12" nav UC5 today. Everything seems to be functioning correctly except for the lower surround view buttons, which is because I haven't swapped out the old CVPM yet. No biggie for now as I have a usable image.

I am having a small issue with the phone connection though - I can't seem to force CarPlay to connect via the wired connection. It only wants to work wirelessly. Phone is charging when I plug it in, so it seems the USB hub is working. Is this normal? Tried resetting radio to factory defaults, deleting and reconnecting the phone with it plugged in to USB, but nothing seems to allow a wired connection.

Any thoughts?

That’s a good question about carplay. One of the reasons I wanted UC5 was for wireless carplay which works well for me so I haven’t worried bout forcing it to connect via the charging cable.

I thought maybe something was wrong with the UC4 to UC5 USB adapter I installed, so as a test, I made up a quick USB stick with MP3s and it recognized it instantly and started playing, so the data portion of the USB port is working. For some reason it just doesn't recognize the phone as a USB device.

If I remove the phone from device manager and connect it via USB, I get a generic "iPhone" listed under devices, but it won't launch carplay. Always wants me to add the device. Was thinking something on the phone might be stopping it, but it worked fine via USB on my old UC4. Might try plugging it in with wifi and bluetooth disabled and see what it does. (EDIT - That didn't make a difference. Next step is to reset the phone software and see what happens.)

The wireless carplay is OK, but the audio quality isn't the greatest, and apple maps is very "jerky" (still for a second, then catches up, over and over).

Hold the power button and tune together til radio turns off and resets the radio

Not settings but the radio

This has worked when my wired CarPlay stops working bc it’s like it stops seeing it for some reason

Thanks for the suggestion, but still the same result. Even did a full software reset on the phone and the wired CarPlay still doesn’t work.

Almost ready to put the UC4 back in. 😡

Sorry to be hijacking this thread, but I figured someone may find this info useful if they tackle this mod...

Had a small glimmer of hope this morning, only to be left disappointed. Plugged the phone in when I left for work and same deal. No wired connection, but wireless connected after a few attempts. Had to make a stop along the way, and left the phone plugged in when I left the truck. Couple minutes later, start the truck back up and CarPlay was on instantly, which usually doesn't happen. Audio sounded normal again (like my UC4), track forward was much more responsive (instant, instead of the 1-2 second delay with wireless CarPlay). I thought, holy crap, the wired finally worked!

Confirmed it when I got to the office - Unplugged the phone and CarPlay shut off with radio returning to home screen. Thought I was out of the woods. No such luck.

Plugged the phone back in and nothing. It would only connect wirelessly again after that. So close but yet so far.....

Next step may be to try a different module and see if I get better results.

Maybe try another apple branded charging cable?

SUCCESS!! I finally have a reliable wired CarPlay connection!!

Turns out it had something to do with the USB hubs. I'm guessing there is some sort of conflict with the rear hub of my 2019 and UConnect 5. After pulling the data line from the rear USB hub, all works exactly as it should. Deleted the phone from device manager so it wouldn't connect wirelessly, and CarPlay comes up within a couple seconds of plugging in the phone.

I noticed through a parts search that the front HUB on 2022 and up is a different part number. Not sure that is the reason, but for now I'm fine with just leaving the rear data disconnected.
