Since i’ts been confirmed that 2022 Ram 1500 will support Uconnect 5, do you think that 2019 Ram 1500 owners will be able to update their system to Uconnect 5. If not, do you think we will be able to replace our current infotainment aiment system with the new Uconnect 5 version?

Info: I currently own a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited.

SUCCESS!! I finally have a reliable wired CarPlay connection!!

Turns out it had something to do with the USB hubs. I'm guessing there is some sort of conflict with the rear hub of my 2019 and UConnect 5. After pulling the data line from the rear USB hub, all works exactly as it should. Deleted the phone from device manager so it wouldn't connect wirelessly, and CarPlay comes up within a couple seconds of plugging in the phone.

I noticed through a parts search that the front HUB on 2022 and up is a different part number. Not sure that is the reason, but for now I'm fine with just leaving the rear data disconnected.
Sorry, just trying to clarify, by rear hub are you referring to the USB connection for the rear seats, or something behind the radio module? Sorry trying to problem solve the same thing you outlined above but don’t have near as much experience in this area. Thanks

The hub I ended up disconnecting is the one for the rear seats/back of center console. I pulled the data (USB) connection but left the power in place.

Did you do change the year of your truck in the BCM?
If you did try resetting it back to original.
When I did my upgrade I had the exact same problem. Backup lines would disapear anytime I turned the truck off and then I had to turn them back on each time.
Went back into my BCM settings with AlpaOBD and changed the year of the truck, saved and reset back to my actual year and this problem went away. Now my lines act exactly as they should.

I did when I did the upgrade, I thought for sure I had read somewhere that it was necessary when upgrading a 2019 to Uconnect5. I may have also got confused when researching upgrading to the digital cluster 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️.

I’ll go back in and set it back to 2019 and see if that works.

I think it was only needed if you had 360 surround cameras and had swapped the CVPM in order to get those to work correctly.

I do not have the 360 surround on my truck(2021) and the rear camera did not work till I upgraded the bcm to the year of the radio. In my case it was a 2023 radio. I tried 2022 first and it still did not work. So yes it is needed.

Must depend because I dont have 360 either, my truck is a 2019 with just the standard backup camera. Had the 5" most basic radio with out even the Sirius XM. My back up camera worked immediately with no problems with the 12" upgrade which also came from a 2023 truck. Radio, module and even the instrument cluster from the same truck. I only changed my trucks model year in the BCM to see if I could get turn by turn directions on the cluster working.
Thats when I noticed that the back up guidelines stopped working correctly. So I went back and changed the year of my truck back to 2019 and everything started working correctly again. So to declare as a fact that changing your BCM model year is needed for the upgrade is misleading and inaccurate.

I do have the newer CVPM so that's not been the issue, but as noted I kept getting blocked from moving on in the calibration process. Today however, I found out what the issue was. I started poking around in the AlfaOBD software and found a box in the Preferences section that had been checked when it should not have been. I unchecked it and all of a sudden I was able to get to where I need to be in order to do the calibration, which I am heading out to do now.

The interesting thing is, I've never been into that part of the AlfaOBD so I'm not too sure how the box got checked. As long as I can get the calibration done, that's all I'm worried about right now.

Thanks very much though for offering up your thoughts on the CVPM, it is appreciated.
Just did the swap to the UC5, it works great, swapped the updated CVPM, but I have the same issue that front and back cameras work, but the surround doesn't. Also the backup grid lines disappeared.

Sounds like I need to calibrate, anyone know where a step by step guide is to do the calibration? Read the whole thread looking for it, so if I missed it I appreciate the help.

Also, anyone ever update their UC5 using wifi? it keeps asking me to connect to wifi to update, I am tempted, but its also working great for me so I don't want to make it worse.

Check this topic for calibration instructions:

Out of curiosity, where did you get the wiring harness from? Seems more like a software/programming issue, but so far I’m coming up short and though I would look at other possibilities.
I got mine from Ebay, setting the vehicle back to 2020 made the reverse lines come back for me FYI

I just upgraded from the basic 5" to 8.4 everything is working except controls on steering wheel.for vol ,scan and telephone buttons , any idea how to enable that?

Did you use alphaobd or JScan. I currently have JScan but am struggling to figure out how to change the date back.

So after reading the whole thread for over an hour this is what it comes down to

Get the radio module, screen, harness from 2022+

Have alphaobd and change BCM MY( idk if i need to do it since i have a 19 with a 23 BCM installed and programmed by dealer) worst case i will have to do it but its not a big deal.

I heard a lot of conflicting info on this some say only trucks with surround system need it etc. i guess it will have to be trial and error.

My truck came with 2019 uc4 12.0 from factory without surround camera system.

The next part is telematics module. What are these so called “connected services “ ? Is it just mobile app access/function? If so, will it ever work to begin with since the vin won’t match and uconnect won’t let you pair a radio to a truck that is not meant for it anyways so is it even worth it?

Also by adding this module will you be giving the dealer/uconnect more access to your truck like disabling performance pages that keeps happening because the radio keeps syncing info by vin and removing configs it shouldn’t have.

Jimmy07 vincentw56 or anyone have any thoughts on this?

I recently upgraded my 2020 with non-nav 8.4 to the uc5. When trying to connect to any WIFI network it says they password is incorrect or too far away. The harness kit I got online it came with a harness for the Bluetooth and WIFI antenna . but i don't have any other connectors from my original set up to plug in to them. From the research i gather i think i need 68306857aa. but I'm not familiar with FAKRA connectors. Is that correct or do i need something else?

It should also be noted that the UC5 also requires a new TTPMs module if that's something you use, and to get the pitch and roll off-road gauges to work you need a 2021+ airbag module.
I have a 19’
I swapped in a uc4 12.1 and added performance pages and they are still there. But…
I am already planning a steering wheel swap,
if i change airbag to a 21’
Is that the only hardware change i need to make to get the gforce and pitch/roll functions working?

I know this is a uc5 thread, but i cant find anything on the airbag/pitch roll topic anywhere else…

So I finally got around to doing this. Credit to Jimmy07 for the assist as I was struggling to change it back with JScan. Solved my problem and everything is working exactly as it should. Thanks for the help! 🤙🏼
