UConnect/CarPlay Problems

What is the status on the "unicorn" software enhancement that is supposed to address CarPlay instability and the modem going to sleep after 15 minutes instead of staying online to receive messages for the design 7 days? VIN 1C6SRFJT9KN807740 4,000 miles. Starting to get real frustrated. Small thing really but Not a cheap truck either. I didn't buy it with the understanding that some things would work like crap.
It will be released soon, along with folding TT mirrors, water leak fix, and cold AC for everyone...

Hello everyone. Brand new 2019 Dodge RAM 1500. I've paired my iPhone 10 XS and I can make telephone calls; however, I'm not seeing the carplay icon and cannot use the WAZE application as I have done with other vehicle brands. I've employed all the tips short of sending the vehicle in for repair (only got the vehicle yesterday). The vehicle display indicates that nothing is connected via USB, yet I can make telephone calls, listen to music from my iPhone, but still cannot even get the carplay icon to present. If the vehicle manufacturer is unable to thoroughly test products (this includes software) before selling them to consumers, I'm certainly losing confidence in my choice of vehicle and manufacturer. My iPhone 10 XS worked with GMC, Chevrolet, and Ford (all 2015 or later) without so much as a hiccup.

I'm also a new member and have the same issue but Android Auto. You may have the same issue I do. The phone is connected to Bluetooth that's why you can make calls and play music but the USB isn't connected to anything behind the unit (or it's faulty). I've been working on this for an entire week (truck is 2 weeks old) and I noticed a poor connection to the USB plug on the truck or behind the Uconnect device. Check yours. My phone kicks in and out of charging consistently but only plugged into the front USB or USB C's. Not the rear. I suspect it's a faulty connection or faulty unit and AA won't connect properly. I've uninstalled AA and done all other possible setting changes. I have no problems connecting to a USB on any other plug except the truck. I'm going to service next week for other issues and hopefully they can replace the unit.

My CarPlay / UConnect had a weird issue today where it was playing two different audio streams at once whenever I tried to play audio from a CarPlay source. I couldn’t tell what the other one was. I delete my apps, reset my settings in UConnect, forgot the device. Nothing seemed to fix it. I turned off the truck and back on but it persisted. I might not have left it off long enough because the next time I drove it it was fixed.

I have had the same issue with car play. I have found that if you cycle through the radio source with the button on the steering wheel it remedy's the concern. it happens for me once a day.

My Carplay just started acting up again a couple of weeks ago. It’s hit or miss. In my case, it‘s not just Carplay. The USB thumb drive with my playlists also stops working, so it’s something with either the USB hub or something else in Uconnect. I wish FCA would get off their duffs and fix these issues once and for all. Very frustrating.

Hi MatJoh1986 & Neurobit,

Sorry to hear of the trouble you both are experiencing with your trucks. I sincerely apologize for any frustration that has been associated with these concerns. Please let our team know via PM if you decide to address this with your dealers. We are glad to have this documented and connect you with case specialists for an additional layer of assistance during that process.

When this happens to me, I switch to SiriusXM then back to whatever I was trying to listen to via carplay (usually audible). And, yes, it's sad that I've had it happen often enough that I have a procedure for "fixing" it.

Mine does same thing. Really annoying

Mine has started playing sirius and spotify at the same time. The weird thing is I dont have my siriius membership anymore. I go from FM back to carplay but both audio streams still play. Is this software or hardware related?

Same happened to me. I have to switch the audio source to satellite and back to CarPlay to fix it. However, today I have a new issue. CarPlay stopped working. Seems like the truck won’t recognize any device connected via usb. Tried resetting the radio, iPhone, different cables, iPhones. All failed. Very frustrating.

Want to add myself to the list of those with frustrating CarPlay problems. I have found that initially, carplay works fine. If I stop at the store, for example, and shut off the truck, it will not work for the remainder of the day; 9 times out of 10. It doesn't matter if i've driven 2 minutes or 2 hours. More often than not, this happens. Like many of the others, I've tried removing, reinstalling, "forgetting", rebooting, restarting truck, etc.... just trying to find a workaround. What I've found is that no matter what, car play is done for the day.

My truck has some other electrical gremlins; specifically with trailers; more specifically, those with brakes. I've found that it will re-detect that a trailer is connected and flash messages about blind sport warning enablements 3-5 times per trip. Something it should only do when you first start the truck after connecting a trailer. Yesterday, on a 200 mile drive, after stopping for gas just a couple miles in, it stopped showing that a trailer was connected.... AND... it never activated my trailers brakes when slowing down. I have the integrated trailer brake controller. Definitely a safety issue.

Sad part about both of these is that I feel like taking a day off work to go to the dealer will result in a dealer message along the lines of: "Unable to replicate the stated problem".

I’d be happy if it was just my CarPlay that wasn’t working. My whole 12” Radio was replaced because it was in a boot loop. 6 months Later it’s doing it again back at the dealer, they don’t have a clue. I feel like the next step is legal action if they can’t fix this... thing only has 5k miles

Anyone ever have any luck with resolving? Up until Monday, mine had been exhibiting the same crappy behavior as I posted about above in post #52. Monday I went in to the dealer to get the tires rotated. I didn’t mention anything about CarPlay working intermittently, as they’ve not been willing or able to fix in the past. They brought the truck up, I paid my bill, got in the truck and was greeted with a TPMS message and a CarPlay error. Shut the truck off and Walked back across the service lane. Service advisor was on the phone and no one else to be found. Waited about 10 mins, before going back to the service lane. Got a pressure gauge and sure enough, one tire was 10psi low. Went back in to see about getting air and showing the CarPly error, but service advisor was still on the phone. Waited a few more minutes and left. Called yesterday morning to get an appt to take it back in, get voice mail. Left a message, no call back yet. Sigh... lol...

I’ve got about 4K miles of warranty left. I’d bet you a doughnut that come 36k, they’ll promptly return all my calls and have a “quick fix” ready that I can pay for out of pocket. Heck, the service techs will probably also start airing up the tires properly after a rotation!

Mine was finally fixed in January and I‘ve had zero issues since. Turns out if was a bent connector (from the factory).

My problem, like yours, was intermittent, so they would not look at it every time I took it in for service, since it happened to always be working. Luckily the last time I went to the dealer, USB was down long enough and they fixed it for good. See dealer notes below:

I along with a few other's have had this issue. Carplay worked a couple of times then the USB ports would only charge my phone. Try putting in a usb stick with music. If that doesn't work then it's the USB media hub. It's a $100 part and the dealer replaced mine and everything including Carplay works again. The part was backordered for a month.
I am having the same issue with my 2019 Ram 1500 Lone Star. Apple CarPlay worked for about a year and then just stopped working mysteriously. Just about the same time that my uConnect trial expired, so I originally thought they just wanted me to subscribe and pay the monthly fee. I will be taking my truck to the dealer and having them check the USB media hub. Thanks for the post!

Oh boy, here it is 11/1/20 and mine just stopped today. I was able to listen to audible over Bluetooth, but no CarPlay functionality. In the past I've always been able to unplug and then plug it back in and it would work. Going to tray a new cable tomorrow. I hope a dealer visit isn't in my future.
