I had my Usb hub replaced about a week ago and so far so good with my CarPlay etc.

One thing I have noticed that might be a problem: I have a USB power pack (battery) that I use to charge my phone and other devices when not in the truck. When I’m in my truck I will often plug that power pack into the front USB port to “recharge” it. I am starting to see a pattern that leads me to believe that power pack might be causing issues when plugged into the USB port. I’m wondering if the usb hub isn’t sure what kind of device it is, tries to recognize it as a “media device”, and glitches out. Because now that my media hub has been replaced, it has been good 99% of the time but when that power pack has been plugged in, it gets wonky.

So just to isolate the problems I would make sure you don’t have any other devices plugged into the USB ports except for your one device (phone). The usb hub might still need to be replaced but I think there might also be an issue where certain “other” devices cause the media hub to freeze up.

I am having the exact same issue with my phone not working through my new ram 1500. There is a loud pop though the speakers and then no audio though the truck. I have currently tried 4 different phones, Android and iPhone, all with the exact same result. Texas like many states has a hands free law while driving so I am currently not able to make a simple phone call while in my BRAND NEW vehicle. I have contacted Chrysler, uconnect and the dealership with still no resolve. I have been a loyal mopar customer, Jeep Dodge and now Ram. This is making me question my choice to continue to do business with CDJR. A service tech at the dealership told me they have seen nothing but problems with the new ram 1500s. Makes me wonder if they are selling faulty products to customers........It also makes me wonder if legal action could be next.......

Hi johngarcia61814,
We're truly sorry to hear about this happening with your new truck. We would like to take some time to look into this further to see if there's anything we can do to help. Please send us a private message with your VIN and mileage at your earliest convenience.

I have 700 miles on my Ram and i am having the SAME Apple Carplay issue, it works when it wants to.
Also sometimes when it does work and i use Waze or Google Maps it defaults to the location of the dealership, this one is kinda baffling, i have reset the phone multiple times and different cords but is random, sometimes it just "thinks" its back at the dealership??

also i just noticed today the upper glove box light is staying on and i can see the light through the 1/4 inch gap at the bottom shining through and its super annoying.

I love the truck but damn this is frustrating after 700 miles !

I have been driving a while now after they replaced the USB Media Hub and CarPlay has been perfect now. No glitches. Connects immediately each and every time. The only time it won’t connect now is when there is an authentication issue on your phone, reboot, software upgrade, wrong password, etc, and then you must first “unlock”’your phone before CarPlay will connect. But that’s an Apple issue not Ram. Have them replace the media hub, and perform all software/uconnect updates, worked for me.

Same here, its is so friggin frustrating. It is NOT the media hub. If it was, it would not recognize the phones when they are plugged in. It is a SOFTWARE issue. Can’t believe RAM cannot fix this nightmare.

I thought the same thing. Makes sense. But as it turned out, for me anyway, it was the media hub. Something causes it to freeze or glitch. Sometimes it works and sometimes it disconnects or doesn’t work. Seemed like software to me. But I finally gave up and had the media hub replaced. Has been seamless ever since. Works every single time. No glitches. No disconnects.

I hope you’re right. Let me qualify my answer.
My CarPlay had been working fine for about a week (used to not work at all, and I tried about a week ago, and it worked w/o issues every day, every time I plugged my phone in).

Yestready, I sent an address to my Uconnect app “send to truck”, so I could route via the truck’s navigation, and as soon as I received the address, my CarPlay stoped working, and my SiriusXM icons disappeared. Had to turn truck off and back on, and was able to get CarPlay working for about an hour or two, and then it stopped working and never got able to get it to work again. Same for the icons. Very frustrating indeed. And the send to truck thing seemed to trigger this.

Again, I hope it is a hardware issue and I can get this replaced.

Cheers,

Yeah that is odd. I don’t have nav in mine. I have the 8.4 w/o nav. I had similar behavior which lead me to believe it was software like it would work and then I’d get a phone call and after the phone call it wouldn’t work. So hopefully a new hub works for you.

I have Android (Samsung S8) and it worked initially at delivery and sporadically since (about 20% of the time). I have used several USB cables (I found a list) and still no difference. I'll try a thumb drive to test the hub. I have basically given up and waiting for the Android Auto next upgrade (https://www.techradar.com/news/andr...featuring-dark-mode-is-rolling-out-from-today) hoping it will fix the issues. Local dealers look at you like a dog hearing an odd noise. Not holding my breath.

There is a setting in iOS to allow CarPlay to be used while the phone is locked.

Settings > General > CarPlay > tap on <insert car radio name here> and toggle "allow CarPlay while locked" switch. :)

Seriously think it is a software issue, but it could be the USB panel. My truck is at the dealer right now for restraint system recall, so I am having them take a look.
Weird thing is, that they gave me a Grand Cherokee Limited for a free rental, and it has the same issues with CarPlay as my truck... Connected the phone, and three seconds later it disconnected. Very strange behavior, which leads me to believe they have a bug in the UConnect system that they need to address.

It seems more likely to be the phone, since some (most?) buyers have no issues. I’m sympathetic, as I’d be frustrated if mine were exhibiting those symptoms. But I’ve seen no issues with my Xs.

Thanks. I already have that enabled. It usually works but I don’t think what I am talking about relates to that exactly. When my phone is plugged into the car and is locked, CarPlay connects just fine but sometimes there is a sequence of events on my phone that requires me to enter my password. Like when you’ve tried your password too many times or when you reboot your phone and it forces you to enter your password. So when my phone is on that “you must enter your password” screen, CarPlay doesn’t connect until I enter my password. The iPhone is essentially locking out all connections.

It's not the phone. I just tried again on the Grand Cherokee rental, and it works fine there now (adjusted settings last night). It connects fine on it.
On my truck, it's intermittent (has been since I bought the truck a year ago, and back then I had a 7 Plus. Now I have an XS Max.

My workaround on the truck, is: If I turn off BT on the phone, and unplug and plug back in, then CarPlay works fine. Shouldn't have to do this, as it is supposed to switch back and forth regardless of BT connected to vehicle or not (works fine on all other vehicles, including my current Jeep GC).

Cheers,

Hello everyone. Brand new 2019 Dodge RAM 1500. I've paired my iPhone 10 XS and I can make telephone calls; however, I'm not seeing the carplay icon and cannot use the WAZE application as I have done with other vehicle brands. I've employed all the tips short of sending the vehicle in for repair (only got the vehicle yesterday). The vehicle display indicates that nothing is connected via USB, yet I can make telephone calls, listen to music from my iPhone, but still cannot even get the carplay icon to present. If the vehicle manufacturer is unable to thoroughly test products (this includes software) before selling them to consumers, I'm certainly losing confidence in my choice of vehicle and manufacturer. My iPhone 10 XS worked with GMC, Chevrolet, and Ford (all 2015 or later) without so much as a hiccup.

I think I have isolated the problem with CarPlay. When it does not work for me, the phone is also not being charged. I thought is was a cable issue and I have determined by trying multiple cables that the cables are not the problem. It only happens when the truck is parked in the sun and the outside temperature is over 100 degrees. Once the truck cools down enough Carplay starts working again. I am thinking there is a safety mechanism built into the USB charging that disables the power when it reaches a certain temperature. I just live without Carplay when the car is super hot. I should tell my dealership to see if they can exchange the USB ports as that seems to have worked for some of you. I have over 9,000 miles on my truck and this is the second summer. At the end of the last summer, I assumed RAM fixed the problem with a software update. It would be interesting to know if my hypothesis is correct or not.

What is the status on the "unicorn" software enhancement that is supposed to address CarPlay instability and the modem going to sleep after 15 minutes instead of staying online to receive messages for the design 7 days? VIN 1C6SRFJT9KN807740 4,000 miles. Starting to get real frustrated. Small thing really but Not a cheap truck either. I didn't buy it with the understanding that some things would work like crap.
