Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

I've got the dam clunk as well. New ordered 2020 Rebel with about 250 miles. To me it sounds like its coming from the floor so I'm guessing the A-pillar mounts. IT's also very intermittent and, oddly enough, only when it's been below freezing temp-wise. When the temps are in the 40's or above there''s no clunk. So after sitting all night and driving to work I hear it. Coming home 10hrs later, nothing. It's mostly from the passenger side but occasionally it happens on the drivers side as well. I could also run over the same batch of bumps and sometimes it's will happen and sometimes nothing.
I'm gonna check the sway bar this morning but I don't think that's it. I can't make it do it and I don't feel it in the steering wheel.
I really hate to start the whole dealer process especially with an intermittent noise.
Good luck. Ram Cares will be of no help. I was very persistent but if your Dealer will no do their job there is nothing they will do...

Well is wasn't the sway bar link nuts. They were tight. Monday and Tuesday were warm days - no clunk at any time. This morning it was 13° when I left for work and I heard the clunk 3 times out of the passenger side and once out of the driver side. I need to wait for a prolonged stretch of cold weather and then make my dealer appt.
To be continued...

My truck was worse in cold/winter weather. The sway bar end links were replaced on my truck and I've had no issues in the last 10 months.

Hey just curious if anyone has had any issues getting this clunking issue fixed with modifications on the truck. Just got a new 2019 2500 and I have about 500 miles and the clunking is much worse now that the temperatures dropped. At first I thought I was imagining it but it's bad now. Called my dealer and they have no service appointments for 2 weeks. My problem is I had another appointment to have leveling kit And 35" tires installed tomorrow at a local truck shop but I'm worried about doing anything before this noise issue gets resolved in case they blame it on the aftermarket parts. Any thoughts ?

My suggestion would be to put off the leveling kit/tires until you get the noise issue resolved. Or you could take a chance that messing around with the leveling kit will somehow fix your issue.

I had this problem with the clunking while turning. Ended up being the front a pillar body mount. They fixed it with an upgraded one (see TSB) and it has been good ever since. The other issue was my ANC was intermittently failing. They ended up replacing the ANC module and the amp. No problem since. I waited to install my B2 Fab Magna Flow muffler until the problem was solved before I put the muffler in so they wouldn't have any reason to deny claim.

Yeah that’s what my plan is. Unfortunately the dealer has no appointments for almost a month to address the issues. Really diseapointed with the ram customer service so far. This is the second brand new ram I’ve bought for my business in the past 2 years and this is really making me regret that decision

Exactly what happened to mine on the left side. Heard the clunk when backing into a parking spot and again the next day during low speed turn.
Got home & put a wrench on the upper sway bar links. Both needed tightened but the driver side was really loose. No more clunk sound after...that was about 1K miles ago.

* I do a decent amount of off-roading on rocky trails so will be sure to re-torque suspension components more regularly

I don’t have this issue, but thanks for sharing this info.

I want to ask if anyone that has had their truck repaired under the TSB. Did you have the problem come back? I ask because that's what happen me had my 1500 repaired at about about 2000 miles now at 13500 it is back. So I am curious if any one else has had this issue.

Just took mine in this afternoon. They re-torqued everything in the front end. Heard it again twice on the drive home. Thanks all for the background. I’ll provide updates if that fixed mine or if it goes back in. Happened at 9800 miles.

Hi all, this thread has been extremely helpful. Thank you to everyone for diagnosing and posting the TSBs.

I took mine in yesterday for regular service and spoke to the service mgr about the clunking and referenced both TSBs as possible culprits. He was kind, but a little bit dismissive initially and said he appreciated my research but that front suspension issues/noises can be a wide range of things, and asked me "where did you get those TSBs?"

Picked up the truck that evening and sure enough it was TSB 02-002-19, the sway bar end link nuts were loose and needed to be properly torqued. Didn't hear any clunking on my drive home, so fingers crossed that that took care of it.

I took my truck in and let them know about the popping in the steering while turning. I mentioned the TSB for the sway bar link some guys were talking about in the forum. They confirmed the noises i stated, which were basically “popping noise when turning at low speeds”. They said they removed the center console and found my “lower dash fasteners were loose” and all they did was tighten those fasteners. I didn’t have a long ride home, but tried to replicate the sounds with no use. So it looks like they found and fixed something. Not sure how long the repair is gonna last (hopefully it stays fixed), but whatever they did is working for the time being. Im still skeptical because what they did was nothing that ive been reading about.

Can you tell us what value did you use to re-torque the nuts?

I had the clunk. Turned the bolt as far as it could go with an 8mm wrench (counter clockwise). Then tightened the main fastening nut as much as I could with a 4 inch long adjustable wrench so I don't know the torque specs but I don't think it could have been that high given the limited leverage I had. No more clunk.
