Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

2019 Limited here, Oct2018 manufacture date. I have the clunk under the footwell too. Slow turns leaving intersections, driveways, parking lots etc cause the sound (and feeling).

I dropped it off to the dealer this morning and they said there was a Bulletin out addressing a similar problem. They just fixed a truck last week with it. They said once verified, the part will take 3-5 days to get in. They did not mention the part or Bulletin. But at least I feel confident they will get it fixed.

Hi R.A.M.,
We're happy to hear that you have had a pleasant experience with your dealer! Please send our team a private message if you need any additional assistance while your vehicle is in service.

So I just got the call and they said it was not what we/they thought, or what this thread pertains to. They said the intermediate shaft needs replaced. The boot had a visual tear, and grease was leaking out. So from the visual inspection, they are fixing this issue. 2 weeks to get the part. The truck can continue to be driven until then.

I'm glad its getting fixed, but I don't feel so confident it will fix the clunking problem since my experience was dead on with those on this thread.

To be continued....

Hope you have luck. Mine is an Oct 18 build date with the clunk also. Already been to the dealer once....They tightened both front struts at the lower attachment and both lower ball joints because they were not to spec. How does a truck leave the line like that? I’m going back this weekend because the clunk is still there. I have an open case with Ram Cares. I hope it is the a-pillar mounts that have a TSB... Well see.

When I picked it up they ordered both the intermediate shaft for the steering and the parts for the TSB. Hopefully between the two it’s gone.

They gave me back my truck while the rack n pinion gets delivered. Then back to the dealer. I also mentioned the A/C. They said they could not find anything wrong with it. It’s not lacking cold air as much as others but even though they said they couldn’t find anything wrong? I did mention that the sensor was off. It would read 83° at times when it was clearly 102° outside. Since I had the truck back, I do notice the cabin getting colder quicker. I’ll keep checking everyday to see if it’s just not that I missed my truck and I’m just thinking it’s cooler.

Had my dealer visit today. Drove with the lead tech and he heard/felt the “clunk” while driving. He believes it is the a-pillar mounts, TSB 23-047-18 and not steering/suspension related. He was not aware of the TSB until I gave him a copy; he was very appreciative. They ordered the parts, but on back order. I hope this will fix it. I was just glad he actually heard/felt while driving. Thanks to whoever originally posted this TSB. I’ll keep you updated.

Well, I have purchased a 2019 Rebel and I am experiencing this clunk as well.
I notice driving over a road that needs some TLC, almost every bump has the clunk, or if steering left / right while driving at 20km/h I can replicate the clunk.

My rebel is the 3.92 rear end, has the air suspension.
3200km on the odo.

UPDATE
The parts arrived, installed and NO clunking under any turning or driving condition. I will continue to monitor and update if needed. I believe opening a case with RamCares was very helpful to get this fixed quickly.

My truck developed the clunk today 12,500 miles on it. So let's look up 5thgenrams and see what it could be. Everyone talking about the swaybar end links coming loose. So I crawled under my truck and sure enough the paint lines don't match up. Turned it about 1/4 turn. Hope that's it and I saved myself a trip to the dealership. Thanks Guy's

RAM 1500 having similar issues, noticed the clunk/knock when on a rough road, and while turning right at slower speeds. No noise when parked and turning wheel. Service appointment tomorrow.

Hello all. I just had my new rebel in for its first service and to get the recalls taken care of. All seemed well except I now have a mysterious clunk while turning left with any kind of slight bump. I never heard this before and now reading this thread I'm curious if it's just coincidence that it started right after my service or could putting it on a lift to do tire rotation/oil change could have caused this problem to present itself now...going back in to service dept Monday, fingers crossed not going to become a long drawn out drama..

I did a tire rotation last night and found on the front spring the rubber insulator coming out on mine. I'm thinking this could be my noise. Obviously it isn't right. Beaman Dodge in Murfreesboro TN said everything was fine and RAM Customer care couldn't even help out. Warranty means nothing if they can't/won't fix anything...

Check your swaybar endlinks. The passengers side came loose on mine and started making a clunking noise. Save your self a trip to the dealership

I've got the dam clunk as well. New ordered 2020 Rebel with about 250 miles. To me it sounds like its coming from the floor so I'm guessing the A-pillar mounts. IT's also very intermittent and, oddly enough, only when it's been below freezing temp-wise. When the temps are in the 40's or above there''s no clunk. So after sitting all night and driving to work I hear it. Coming home 10hrs later, nothing. It's mostly from the passenger side but occasionally it happens on the drivers side as well. I could also run over the same batch of bumps and sometimes it's will happen and sometimes nothing.
I'm gonna check the sway bar this morning but I don't think that's it. I can't make it do it and I don't feel it in the steering wheel.
I really hate to start the whole dealer process especially with an intermittent noise.

Mine was sway bar and I was feeling same thing. Only thing they've been able to figure out and fix on my truck.

I hate to take anything to the dealership. Mine did the same thing. It was the passengers side swaybar end link it was about quarter of a turn loose. No more clunking noise.
