Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

I put my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie in the shop for the same issue. I was told that they would have to take the cab off to fix the issue. Is this correct? Please enlighten this lady!

Welcome to the forums,

They don't have to "take off" the cab, they just need to lift the cab off the frame a little bit to replace the body mounts. It's not the same as removing the cab from the frame at all. Don't let them scare you, and remember, if you're having a TSB done under warranty, it shouldn't cost you a penny.

Now, this thread has formed into a topic that covers two different issues under two different TSB numbers. There's one for the body mount replacement, which is in the title of the thread, and one for the sway bar link re-torquing / replacement, which is mentioned throughout the thread as well. Both, (at the surface) have the same symptoms (clunking), but are two completely different problems and fixes. Only the body mount TSB requires the cab to be lifted, the sway bar link TSB does not.

Dropped off the truck before I went on vacation to have the new stereo system replaced along with having the clunk fixed. I provided the TSB#. They called over the week and stated that the radio has been replaced but they don’t hear the clunk and the truck falls out of the TSB and I would be charged to get the parts replaced.

Jasmine from RamCares has been kind and had messaged me to see if we can escalate the issue. So far, she has done so, and I’m waiting to hear back from someone.

Does anyone know the actual parts, their part numbers, and how to fix it? I thought I read earlier someone did the work, and appears to have corrected the issue.

Thanks!

Well got vehicle out of shop and paperwork states they replaced a-pillar body mounts and can mount bolts.

Thanks for the explanation and this is such a resourceful forum. I may not understand everything but I am definitely learning.

Hi,

Can you confirm if this actually fixed your issues?

I dropped my new 500 mile old Rebel off for the 2nd time yesterday to try and fix this...I had this problem on my journey home from the dealer so literally a problem from the first journey I took in a new vehicle. I have now been told this can take up to 2 weeks to fix. Needless to say I am not happy with this at all and I will have to take this up with someone at Ram as this is not acceptable at all.

Hit up @ RAMCares - whether you have the body mount TSB (1 hour tech time) or sway bar end link TSB (15 minutes tech time) both can easily be performed within the same day. They might have to order parts, but I had the body mount TSB done back in February and they had the parts the next day. RAMCares will also be able make sure they give you a rental car.

Here is a very useful thread in case you haven't seen it.

Not sure if this has been discussed but, in my case thebclunk wasn't from this TSB..
It was the passenger side away bar link upper bolt, I could turn the bolt by hand!!!
tightened it up (literally took less than 5 minutes) and the noise was gone, took it to the dealer to get both sides torque to spec and haven't had the issue since.

There's a tsb for that too, which is covered in this thread as well, even though this thread was originally about the body mount issue. Glad it was an easy fix for ya though!

I drove it home and didn’t hear the noise but will drive it over next few days to to confirm issue has been corrected.

I am working with Jasmine from RAMCares who has been great so far and also another person who unfortunately did not call me as promised. The dealer has no record of anyone speaking to them about this problem so not sure what will happen. I will provide an update though.

I found in this thread the parts needed to replace what parts needed to be replaced in the TSB. I went ahead and just bought the parts and will replace. I’m tired of this back n forth crap.

I collected my truck from the dealer tonight. It is storming here so not able to test it all 100% but it seems there is an improvement...it might actually be fixed. I will report back tomorrow.

Here is the notes on the Invoice:

It says the Pillar Body Isolator was noisy. Replaced 13280195 Isolator, hold down-Mount, A-Pillar Body (both sides).
2 x 68246280AC Isolator-Body Hold down
2 x 6512962AA Screw-Hex Flange Head Lock

It also says: Mount APillar Cab to Body Replace, Left and Right Front APillar.

I have no idea how serious this is. Anyone know?

As long as its seriously fixed I don't think you have to worry about it...

They did exactly what the TSB told them to do, replace the A pillar body mounts.

Hey folks.

Earlier in this thread, there was someone who found a dealer that gave a picture of the parts that were updated in the thread.

When I originally came across this thread, I read about the endlinks. I tightened everything up but still had the clunk.

I purchased those same parts online that the dealer had given in the updated TSB that I didn't fall under and recently replaced them myself on my 2019 rebel. So far, I am pleased to announce that I no longer have the clunk.

It was quite the simple job. There are three of those mounts on each side. The front one, which is located between the front wheel and frame, apparently is the culprit.

I simply unbolted all three, jacked up the side of the truck cab off of the frame high enough to pull out the front mount, replaced, and lowered back down and installed the new bolt, bottom piece that easily pops off and the new mount. Took me about 30 min total. I first only unbolted the front but the other two prevented the cab from separating from the frame enough.

Below are pictures of the mount. I tried to get the best angle to show the differences, which were subtle. But the new mount had higher rubber placement than the old. At first glance, I thought they were the same part but I showed the picture of the two different part numbers.

For anyone that I suppose will be running out of their warranty in the future and happen to get that clunk and was denied the TSB like I was, I hope this helps.

I also Included the part numbers I screen shotted from earlier in the thread.7045732A-EE54-4E3A-8574-F968CFEE26D6.jpeg4CD1F9C1-B930-4186-893E-2F832AA8AC11.jpeg83DF7230-51CE-4376-9FCA-2A88B52083AA.png

I have a 2019 Rebel and have 348 miles on my new truck. I am officially in the clunk club. Reading through the thread has been incredibly inciteful. I will look up my VIN in the morning and go from there. Thank you all for the information. I will update accordingly.

Anybody heard any clunking noises while turning? I can replicate the issue fairly easily. Doesn’t happen every time but often. Not sure if it might be air bags, control arms, etc but definitely sounds suspension/steering related. Wondering if it’s something that will break in or a problem I should have looked at.
I have a brand new (2 week old) Rebel with the air suspension. Up until a few days ago it rode like a dream. Now I have a mysterious clunking noise in the front left which seems to be worse when making turns. I have recently started to notice some feed back (vibration) in the steering as well. This coupled with the horrible clunking in the rear and it is making me wonder what the hell I did. Traded in a seven year old Titan with 138,000 km and never did anything other than change the oil in it.
