Now the question is, if it does work, with the sunroof that I have...How the hell will I run the fakra cable to the rearview lol
Same way the headliner harness is routed for the brake/cargo light wiring-

Alright so my parts came in today. I’m still waiting for my android tablet, OBD reader and the security gateway module to come in and use AlfaOBD for the first time.

so from what I’m gathering, from what Jimmy said, we need to enable auto dim etc.. through Alfa correct? To have those functions work with the new mirror? Wonder if my bcm will be able to be updated since my vehicle is super new.

Jimmy, what exactly do I need to enable once the rearview is connected to the harness (I have the auto dim mirror so should be the same connector)? And as far as the third brake light, in order for the brake light to work, what exactly do I need to enable as well? Thanks!

You already currently have auto dim? Just plug the new parts then. When you get AlfaOBD up and running, enable CBC Features LED CHMSL Lamp Present, but you don’t need to do it right now. The brake light will work fine in the meantime, you just might get a light out message stored. There’s nothing else you need to change.

Where did you order the mirror from if you don’t mind me asking?

So I don’t need to change anything to have auto dim, auto high beams or anything to work with new mirror installed? I’m guessing it’s because of the same harness correct? Sorry that I sound dumb in asking so many questions lol.
if all I need to do is use AlfaOBD for the third brake light once installed, Sounds like a plan!

No at all brother! I ordered the parts from a website called Mopar Parts Archbold. I’ll post a picture of what I paid shipped. I called them to verify if they had the parts, in which they didn’t, and said once they order them, they’ll receive and ship out same day to me. Literally took them 2 days to get both parts and ship them my way!

Also, what silicone do you recommend me putting on the third brake light to not have any water damage inside after replacing the light? I really don’t want any water leakage for a truck that currently has 287 miles lol

The new style brake light will work without any programming and will not show any light out codes.

I thought the led light had to be enabled or it’ll throw out a code and won’t work as intentioned no?

If you already have auto dim and auto high beams, your BCM is already configured for it, so there’s nothing you need to change.

Don’t use silicone to spooge in your brand new brake light to your nice new vehicle. If you feel like it needs to be sealed better, peel off the existing gasket on the brake light and use this stuff- https://www.amazon.com/M-D-Building...n+T,+Epdm+Rubber,+Black&qid=1607213016&sr=8-1

It might “work” fine for some, and might throw a message briefly for others. It all depends on the PWM duty cycle at any given moment that the BCM is supplying to those circuits. The main reason for changing the setting for LED is because the BCM shuts off the pulse width modulation. This is more important for LEDs, because they have a tendency to flicker if the called for duty cycle is low enough. When the duty cycle is low, and the LEDs are at the threshold of flickering (might not be visible to the naked eye), that’s when the BCM might start to think that a bulb is out, because there isn’t enough resistance at that moment. That’s why factory equipped LED trucks have the PWM shut off for all LED light circuits.

Alright guys,
I finally installed the rear view mirror and the LED CHMSL and boy is it rewarding.

1. I didn’t even take off the headliner. I ran a cable wire runner that I’ve used before to run cables through inside my walls inside my residence. I only took out the weather stripping from the driver side front and rear to fish out the wiring, which I started from the rear CHMSL, and kept running it towards the front of the truck. It took some time but at least I didn’t have to worry about taking off any bolts/screws to drop the liner.

2. taking out the factory rear view was super simple and followed the same instructions that were posted on the thread about wiring a radar detector through the rearview located here - https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/hardwire-radar-detector-to-rear-view-mirror.718/

3. The fakra cable that is purchased through Amazon SUCKS as you have to move the cable around when both parts are connected to see where you can finally see the image. This took the longest and trying to rest the cable on that certain spot was a pain in the a** once the new mirror was mounted. I had to move up and down, back and forth the fakra cable that goes connected to the rearview mirror itself but finally got it in a nice spot to where it turns on every time.

4. to install the new rearview mirror was a pain as I believe from the website I ordered it from, the mounting teeth on it were more closed than the stock mirror so it was a bit of a pain to get it and turn clockwise but after a few minutes of messing with it, it finally was secured.

5. Thanks to Jimmy’s information, absolutely no coding was needed to be done. Not even the LED CHMSL. I didn’t get any codes or messages and everything worked FLAWLESSLY (after moving around that fakra cable and installing the rearview).

I will take photos during the day but I am HAPPY this actually worked out. Hopefully it stays working though as that Fakra cable has me a little worried. I need to see what the part number for the actual OEM wiring harness is to connect the CHMSL and the rearview just to have that piece of mind that it’s working 100% at all times

Nice! That's awesome that it works without having to mess with the AlfaOBD. I'll likely be ordering a mirror here soon too and maybe will try to find the factory part on the fakra cable - or at least maybe try to find a higher quality one.

Thanks for being the guinea pig on this!!

Are you sure the fakra is all the way in locked into the notch on the camera connector body?

Many have used this cable to add the surround view system (6 cables per system), and works fine. 174 coax cable is 174 coax cable, so it has to be something like the fakra not locking.

Yeah the cable was locked in and secured. I’m guessing it was just a somewhat bad cable but thankfully I was able to have the image appear on the rear view and was able to put the mirror housing back in place without touching it. Will be uploading pictures shortly!

also, I forgot to include that I took off the factory seal on the third brake light and put this one that was also posted by Jimmy. It’s a lot thicker so it should definitely hold and not allow any leaks. It’s bound to rain again here in sunny/rainy south Florida

Just to clarify, are you saying if I currently have the auto-dim mirror on a 2019 Laramie that we just need the cable and the brake light assembly? Or is the factory auto dim mirror different than this new digital mirror?
