Wind noise

So I go in for a second attempt with a second service department to fix my noise issue. Since there seem to be many different issues I will refer to mine as the Morse Code Teapot sound that is most definetly NOT a malfunctioning Park Sense. 2019 Ram 1500 Limited, no sunroof. Normal mirrors.
Hope this link works.

Makes me wonder if the noise is coming from the metal pinch seam under the driver side door sill. It's the same area that multiple people have reported water ingress from so it's obviously not sealed well. The best solution would be to seal it from the outside rather than inside though (maybe the entry point is the seam posted earlier in the thread?).

I have that exact issue with my 18 ram 1500, feels like the door is flexing, truck is a dealer now. Did you find a repair yet?
no not yet. put the bed to cab seal on and that has helped it seems a bit. still when there is a good cross wind etc the top seems to not be as tight as it should be against the seal.

Hi Tiemax, please be sure to keep us updated on your dealer's findings. We are more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to get you connected with a specialist for further support through that process.

I have a 2019 Lonestar and the wind whistle is so bad I almost can’t drive the truck. At 60+ mph it is louder than the radio sometimes. Tried the recirculating button but that did not help at all. Please someone help me fix this. Had a 2015 that was great with no issues at all. I did have both exterior mirrors replaced due to the motors going out on both of them.
I have a 2019 Lonestar as well and have this whistle too. It only seems to happen when there is a strong cross wind or head wind.

I hear the same noise at about 45mph and higher as well. Is there resolution to this?

I got a brand new 2020 RAM 1500 a month ago and it has the whistling noise at 70mph+. Setting the system to recirculate makes the sounds go away. This was really fun as we were on an 8 hour drive and we had to choose between this godawful noise and having to hit the recirculate button every 5 minutes (it automatically turns itself off when heat is on) and at the same time continually clean the fog off the windows with mcdonald's napkins.

I took it in to the dealership to get it fixed and they said they found a service bulletin for it and applied some sealant and tightened some bolts but there is no where for the to test drive it at 70mph. Went for another 8 hour highway trip over the weekend and the problem is still not fixed. Had to deal with this obnoxious sound for 8 hours. Its like tinnitus.

I have another appt schedule for Friday.

It floors me that this has been a known issue for a year and there are service bulletins for it but brand new trucks are rolling off the assembly line with this problem and even with service bulletins the dealer cannot get it fixed properly. I should not have to deal with this with a brand new truck.

Did they say where they applied the sealing at? I am thinking about taking mine in but worried it will be a waste since I don't see too many fixes.

They didn't, but I will be sure to ask for as much detail as I can when I go in on Friday and will post back here with any details I get.

For those who have recently posted and are having this problem, have you looked at post 427 and tried that solution? Maybe point the dealer to that and have them do it. Seems simple enough to try.

Haven’t tried it, but truck is currently at the dealer for the third time to get this fixed. I went to a new dealer though, so we’ll see how they do. If they don’t get it, I’ll give thread 427 a try and go from there. The whistling noise on mine starts when I recirculate the air, and goes away when I get air from outside

Wind noise FIXED!!!!!

If your experiencing a "tea kettle" type of whistle that usually starts around that 40 to 45 mph and doesn't go away. It usually changes with the recirc button, but doesn't really go away. The sound seems to be coming from the dash windshield area.

Before we found the actual problem here's the things we tried with no success: Replaced windshield, Replaced recirc actuator & door, Replaced Cowl vent panel, Tried caulking & sealing around windshield.

If this sounds like your truck it sounds crazy, but try this:
Inside the cowl panel on the drivers side, there is a seam where the two layers of metal meet. We trimmed off the "spray foam" around the plastic plug and used seam sealer to re-caulk the seam and around the plastic plug. Once it dried, we put the cowl vent panel back on, went for a drive, and NO NOISE!!!!

Hope this helps at least one person out there struggling with the same annoying wind noise that has been driving us nuts for months!

Here's some pics:

Thank you for sharing this. I am going to have a look at mine this weekend maybe. Its so cold here I don't feel like doing much around the truck even in my garage. I want to take a look at it before I go to the dealer and have them attempt it. If it looks manageable I might attempt this myself as a fix. I noticed that my noise gets louder if I turn on recirculate.

Looked under truck yesterday.....I don't have the bed/cab seal either. Holes are there.....question for those who have installed it themselves.....does the seal sit on top of the frame or hang below? Haven't ordered the seal yet but for $12....will probably do so soon. Looks like easy install. Thanks

Truck is currently at dealer for the wind noise. I have all 3 seal/rubber things on the bed. 2 vertical and one horizontal. My wind noise comes from inside the cabin. Hopefully they can fix it

Sorry accidentally hit post before finishing it. So far they haven’t found a way to fix it, kind of annoying

Had the same issue. Mine was coming from the driver door btwn the frame of the truck and the door itself. The door was closed but at high speed and on a windy day, the wind would come right through the door seal. Took it to the dealer and the tech adjusted the striker plates on both front door. No more wind noise for me.

I saw the post and asked my dealer about it, but they hadn't heard the noise so they didn't understand the problem or "fix." I haven't seen anyone post any updates stating that this had fixed their problem, so until then I won't put my dealer through something that hasn't been validated. A proper TSB would point to a root cause, an applicable fix and time associated to do the repair. Without that you're looking at a straight time out of pocket repair .. :(

They said they put on more seal around the intake cowling and also tightened down two bolts near that area that had to do with the HVAC system. This was per two service bulletins. Not much more detail than that, the guy I talked to didn't actually do the work. Its being worked on again today.

this is something that is quick and simple enough that if I were in your position I would try myself if the dealer can quickly fix the problem. As you know by now trips to the dealer back and forth and being without your truck is a hassle. Not to mention having them tear at things trying to look for and chase down gremlins. Removing a cowl and throwing some sealant on is a cheap easy way to experiment without ripping things apart. I’d give it a shot if you have the time.
