Wind noise

Any chance someone has a good pic of the cowl area. I am confused about what cowl is lol.

this is something that is quick and simple enough that if I were in your position I would try myself if the dealer can quickly fix the problem. As you know by now trips to the dealer back and forth and being without your truck is a hassle. Not to mention having them tear at things trying to look for and chase down gremlins. Removing a cowl and throwing some sealant on is a cheap easy way to experiment without ripping things apart. I’d give it a shot if you have the time.

Agree, also there is nothing like a 2" wide roll of 3M blue tape to find the source. I had two noise sources when I took my 19 Laramie back to the dealer. Before the appointment I had completely sealed the sunroof joints and seams with tape and the major noise went away. I started stripping the tape off in sections from back to front and driving as I removed portions. The noise was from the right front corner of the sunroof. I also found a less noisy leak in the rear passenger side window near the top the same way.

When I took the truck in for service I pointed out the areas to the service manager and when I got the repaired truck back the next day with new parts, the service manager said it made their job easy and the service order said they confirmed the customers findings, opened two star cases and repaired with new parts. BTW, it fixed the issues.

A couple comments - It's a bit off putting driving a brand new red truck around covered in blue tape but it worked. I also chose the 3M blue as it's made to release cleanly when removed.

Update from dealer visit...

No new news, said that it’s a normal noise. They said they opened a Star case or whatever that means. Then they said that if it gets worse that they would call down the regional rep to take a look at it and go from there. That guy will definitely be making a trip to the dealer lol so no fix as of yet. I let them know that no everyone has this problem and that it’s only a few of us so that shouldn’t be normal. Plus, it’s a $61,000 truck. Why on earth is there a whistling noise coming from the vent when I hit the recirculate air button and the faster I go the louder it gets? Definitely some leak going on somewhere

Anybody had this issue or had it fixed, there is a noticeable wind noise starts at 40 miles and keep increasing with speed on the driver side !
I have had my 19 ram 1500 for 6 months now... I drive a lot on the highway to commute to work and have noticed the air sound on occasion; I thought it was just strong crosswinds at first, but after this amount of time, I think its apparent there is something allowing air in the cab, or something is off with the aerodynamics somewhere. The sound is too loud and too frequent, I have to turn up the radio sometimes, just to drown out the wind noise. I'm not a mechanic, but a new truck should not have such a loud wind noise this often. Any easy fix at home, to avoid the hassle of leaving the truck at the dealership?

I have not noticed this particular issue with the AC, but I do have a lot of wind noise in the cabin when driving on the freeway, and after 5-6 months, I am really thinking its more than just crosswinds and strong winds from time to time. Has anyone here thought about installing rain guards or wind guards, and seeing if this does anything? I just don't have time to go back and forth with a dealership..

It’s definitely more than just cross winds. Sometimes you can hear mine when driving at like 15 mph with the hvac set to recirculate. I don’t think rain/wind guard will have any effect as on my truck it’s clearly something to do with the hvac system. So hopefully they find something soon because I really really like this truck and would hate to get the whole lemon law thing going

Ok so I fixed the wind noise from my drivers side door up top. The strikes can be adjusted but that wasn't the main issue. The door was off at the hinges. Comparing the top of the driver's door to drivers side passenger door the front drivers door was off by about an 1/8 of an inch lower than passenger door. Loosened bolts on drivers door supported it with jack and pad. She lined right up. Adjusted striker and no more wind noise and looks a hell of a lot better too. Just an fyi fellas.

Nice! I'll take a look at my doors and see if it looks off.

I saw the post and asked my dealer about it, but they hadn't heard the noise so they didn't understand the problem or "fix." I haven't seen anyone post any updates stating that this had fixed their problem, so until then I won't put my dealer through something that hasn't been validated. A proper TSB would point to a root cause, an applicable fix and time associated to do the repair. Without that you're looking at a straight time out of pocket repair .. :(
I'm fortunate that my dealership has been as helpful as they can be, the General Manager actually just called me a few minutes ago and he's going to contact Corporate to see if they can assist. He is not very impressed with how my situation has been handled, and wants this resolved as well.

Not to mention, on Monday they asked the dealer to hold the truck I test drove last Tuesday, and haven't given them any kind of timeframe as to when this "process" is going to be complete. In fact, other than them contacting the Service Department a few times and leaving a voicemail to hold that truck this past Monday, they haven't spoken to the dealership at all.

I also understand 1st model year issues, that's why I've been patient, and like you, while I've had issues with other vehicles (non-fca), I have never had an issue that was not, or apparently could not be fixed under warranty. So, this is certainly a whole new (and bad) customer experience for me.
To all of you with wind issues - every sound you have described and coming from every place you have mentioned I have also experienced - but my wind noise is now gone and the remedy for me will sound bizarre to you.
I had taken my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Quad Cab into my dealer for the wind issue (about the 4th or 5th time) and some other minor things when they called me, asking me to come back in and look at some minor driver side door damage. Obviously, I thought they were out of their mind. In any event, I went in and sure enough there was some "rippling" in the door skin just in front of the mirror. It was almost impossible to see unless you were purposely looking for it and looked down the side of the truck with some good lighting. Also, if you looked from the center front of the truck there was an almost imperceptible change in the angle of that mirror (up) when compared to the mirror on the passenger side. It looked like some big dude had walked by and bumped it with his shoulder (you know how they stick out) and then got pissed and palmed it from the mirror side forward because it was obvious it was not hit by another vehicle - no damage to the mirror, no scratches or missing paint.
I personally believe it happened at the dealership because they park the trucks so close together, but that was a loosing battle.
OK. To the point. The techs believed this was the cause of all my wind noise problems and I told them they were insane - after all I'd had the wind issue since I bought the truck. So I turned it in to MY insurance and - after a little fight - they replaced the door with a new door, including the mirror. (By the way - did you know that the bracket holding that big mirror is PLASTIC??) Thanks RAM!
In any event, since replacing the door and mirror, I have had absolutely NO WIND ISSUES. Why? I have no clue because that was the only thing changed from wind & noise to no wind & noise. I just wanted to give you this information in hopes that it would help you solve your own issues because I know just how frustrating it was for me.
And by the way, RAM Care and RAM Corporate SUCK! They just don't care about their customers. Really sad because I've been a Dodge owner for many years. But I have sent in their surveys and asked for them to get in touch with me (like they ask you to check off on the survey) and I have sent them emails. No response.
Best of luck to all of you. Hope you are able to find some resolve.

Hello HTX Ram,
We are certainly sorry to hear about your recent concern and we understand your hesitation with visiting a dealer. If you're not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you do decide to address this with your dealer, please let us know via private message as we would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist.

could it have been that they put the new door on right this time thus eliminating the wind noise being that it sealed properly now?

Well I don't have a sun roof and have the, Morris code howl but only in high winds and man is it annoying so I am gathering there is not a definitive fix as of today...

Finally found my wind/ air leak noise from the cab. My noise was a high pitched air escaping noise that increased with speed and became extremely annoying if you even cracked a front window open. It was allegedly a missing plug or bolt from the back bench mount on passenger side. There are apparently different rear bench seat mounting configurations (I have Laramie reclining bench). Factory failed and left a hole open. At least it’s finally gone.

Got my Truck back from the dealer today, My whistle sounds was fixed! mine was coming from the lower windshield area when going 60+ MPH, it got worse when turning re circulation on or putting a window down. My noise was high pitched and pretty loud. I'm not sure of the exact details of this fix but im glad its good now. Attached are pics of the work order on what they did to correct it. Hope this helps
