What did you do to your Ram today???

When you use a weight distribution hitch with a trailer that is lighter than the tow vehicle you are transferring some of the weight of the vehicle to the trailer. Given the tires on most trailers that is a bad idea.

It is necessary for safe travel. You just need to put ST tires on the trailer.

Or you need better suspension or a bigger truck. I see a lot of trailers being pulled by tow vehicles that are too small for the job.

Naturally, but most states are not enforcing existing laws around this type of thing. Also, even with a larger truck, a torsion bar WDH is still safer than towing without one. The torsion bar WDH systems also prevent sway via the friction the bars create at the pressure points. I would always choose to tow(heavy towing) this way unless its a 5th wheel or Gooseneck.

Completely agree. My trailer is only ~5k pounds, but I wouldn't dream of not using a wdh. I'm also a big proponent of properly inflated tires, and traveling the speed limit (or less). Sadly, many folks don't, and they're often the ones on the side of the road with blowouts.

this.
41 days on the road so far. everyone towing a trailer or home on wheels are running HD. people who are towing with a 1500 or 150 only tow a small trailer. no fridge, no restroom, no shower, no slide out.

at least over here we don't have people asking about towing a 5th wheel with a 1500 LOL

Left yesterday and got home today did 670 mile round trip to ride 6 miles of the worst dirt bike trails ever... I also tried the tow haul and got 17mpg... Well even the worst day of riding is still better than the best day at work.

the best day at work is the last day at work!

Be careful what you call torsion bars; that is defined as twisting - see old dodgecars/GM truck front suspension. The WDH uses spring bars. I’ve used these with chains also, which does allow for full weight transfer, and at the same time, adjustable sway control. Agreed, always use WDH when I can.

Yes, they do call them spring bars, but the result is sway control due to steel on steel friction.

Today installed the Rough Country 3.5” lift kit. I went with the M1 shocks and loaded struts. My rear was unusually high compared to what I have read here. After the install my front is 39.25 and the rear is 40.25. Makes me think they put the ORP springs on it from the factory. It was 36.25 front and 39.25 rear stock.

Remeasured on more level ground and it seems to be even all around. Hard to find perfectly level anything here in NE Georgia

I am happy with this since I do tow a boat sometimes. I need to get some better pics, but here is what I have for now:

The other thing I did today was finish the badge replacement for the limited glove box I installed. Used my AtomStack laser machine to etch and cut. Painted the wood first for the silver lettering. I also wanted the distressed look to match the Limited wood.

Found an old highway running parrel to the new highway that I was on, so I turned around for some shots.

Also, my Ram and I are home. IMG_1570.jpg
Now, if I could make MT my home... that'd be great!

as usual, more in my build thread.

In all seriousness, I did miss that you were new the forum, and it's annoying when smartasses like me don't just give you the desired answer.
So typically you'd wait until the pump to hand calc as the dash reading is highly variable, as you probably know. So assuming the mileage dropped significantly & given the recent exhaust work, the next logical place to look is for an exhaust leak - with the loud exhaust you might not hear it as readily. But, even this I wouldn't expect to affect mileage significantly unless the leak was ahead of the Cats.

Other possibility is O2 sensors damaged?

Was any of the work remotely involving the Cats, such as loosening the downpipes, etc.?

Was this truck recently purchased (e.g. maybe other problem exists and the timing of it's appearance & muffler swap is merely coincidental).

Last thing I'd do is scan for stored or soft codes which could reveal something like CAT inefficiency etc.
I appreciate all the information. You are correct I did the calc at the pump vs the truck. It's still down considerably.

I didn't see any noticeable damage to the o2 sensors.

No work with the CATS whatsoever.

It was recently purchased, but I had driven it for about 2 months before I decided to do the exhaust work. It was getting better fuel mileage prior to the exhaust work.

I have not done a scan and that is a good idea.

Thanks again for the information and what to check I do appreciate it. I will check to see if there are any codes that pop up and I will let you know.

I DUMPED MY 2019 AFTER 47,000 MILES !

Burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles, had an extended warranty, but they wanted to do oil consumption test. Guess what ---they overfilled it on the oil change to make sure it would pass, BS

Then I had to bring it back at exactly 1,000 miles after they changed the oil . So two times it was done --I was out of town when I hit the 1,000 mark both times .

Got a new truck, did well on both new and trade, will NEVER look back to Ram, what a total P.O.S, plus time wasted with the dealer on repairs ---a totally negative experience, glad that part of my life is over !

Gotta say you stuck it out longer than I would've lol. You been complaining for almost 3 yrs! That's crazy. Should've cut your losses much sooner.

That's not how oil consumption tests work. They are supposed to mark the dipstick with the level when it leaves dealer. Did you physically check it after you left to verify it was overfilled? If so, did you document it?
