What did you do to your Ram today???

Added a pair of RealTruck Undercover Swing Cases. Been thinking about them for a while and noticed they just had a $40 off each sale. Saving $80 was too hard to pass up.

Super easy install and I’m very happy with them. Bonus is they can be removed in seconds if more bed space is needed.

Day 2
Went from Carson CIty, NV to Tyee, OR through northern CA. Passed through Lassen and Shasta NF.
Unfortunately Lassen is burning so couldn't go to the national park, and I didn't have enough time to go to Shasta. This is because in my original route planning I was going through Eastern OR to Owyhee and Leslie Gulch instead, but made last minute change due to scorching heat in that area (night time low in that area is still high 80s... no thanks)

I tried to look for a spot to photograph Shasta, but couldn't find any. So some dirt therapy in hope of getting lucky, but no luck.

I had them in my ranger before I got my ram. Very handy, I loved them. I may or may not have even used one as a beer cooler a time or two :LOL:
 
Changed oil and filter. My new filter wrench didn't work out very good. I need to go in another direction. Worst vehicle I ever had for making a mess while changing oil. rotated tires, mounted an amp, and installed catch can.amp2.jpgcatchcan.jpg

Not sure why you re having issues with the oil/filter change. With the right stuff it s one of the easiest considering I don t even need to left it?? Bag the oil filter after loosening it up.

Look into getting the pac brake oil relocation kit or an xl oil udder.

Do u have a fumoto drain plug also?
 
I never have had a fumoto, have more trouble getting to the oil filter. coming in from the bottom front, just hard to get a wrench on it. I bagged the filter twice. as I turn the filter the bag gets caught on something and doesn't spin with the filter. using supermarket bag. should I use ziplock or something?

Ziplock 1/2 gallons work great. Slip the first one on, and push it up all the way until you get to the bottom of the bag and it's touching the bottom of the filter, then continue to unscrew until oil starts coming out. About 15-20 seconds later, switch to your 2nd bag.

Then finish the unscrewing, hold the bag in place for a few seconds after the filter comes out to catch the oil coming out of the oil filter mount. Keep a small catch pan on your side to put the oily bags in as you do the change, keeps things nice and clean.
 
Thanks, I was trying to use the wrong bag and made a worse mess, plus doused my shirt with oil lol. Been changing oil 48 years and ain't got the hang of this one yet. Just did my 4th change at 20K

I've used plastic grocery bags and ziplock bags. There wasn't one that works better than the other. As long as the grocery bag didn't have holes in it. It's just an awkward place to get to. Plus I personally use the larger SRT filters, so even less room.

After you get the factory filter off, there should never be a need for a filter wrench to change the oil. If your filter is on tight enough to need a filter wrench, than it got installed too tight. Of course, I guess that could be subjective to what your grip strength is. When/if I do need to use anything to help loosen the filter, I have a set of strap wrenches with rubber straps that work great, as long as you know how to use them.
 
My grip strength is slowly going away. I still like to turn wrenches but it takes more effort now to torque control arms and such, part of getting old I reckon. I prefer not to overtighten the filter but I also find it difficult to see when I'm 3/4 a turn in when I use the wrench so I'm tightening this one by feel. a strap wrench would probably work better than a metal loop wrench
 
break the oil filter loose with the correct wrench, some fit better than others, there are strap types that a extension and socket plug into. Then once barely loose remove wrench and place plastic bag ov er it and finish by hand. I tuck a rag under that frame area too. The plug is straight forward, can t see any issues with that. I leave the filler cap ON until after I take the plug OFF. I m thinking it won t pour out as fast at the beginning.

Cap on or off shouldn't have any effect on the oil coming out. The crankcase is vented to atmosphere with the PCV system.
