Good morning to our Ram Brand enthusiasts,

Our teams have heard your concerns and will be posting out periodically in an effort to provide you with new update releases and ask for feedback on how to better serve all of you. We appreciate your patience and feedback throughout the experience!

We're happy to share that as of this morning (December 9th, 2021), TSB 08-180-21 was released as an informational bulletin regarding the latest Flash Over The Air (FOTA) software update. Uconnect sends Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates to vehicles equipped with built-in cellular modems within range of U.S. or Canadian cellular networks, in an effort to add new features or fix bugs. For your convenience, we've included a snippet of the TSB and the symptoms/conditions that it intends to address, below. *Please note the applicable vehicle build dates and sales codes.

FOTA Tips
  • Have access to good cellular coverage
  • Enable a Key Off Power Off Delay in your Uconnect 5 system settings to allow the radio time to search the cloud for updates, once your ignition is cycled off
  • Schedule your FOTA for the evening when you're less likely to be utilizing your vehicle and it's connected services.
After FOTA is Completed
  • Wait about 40 minutes with their vehicle OFF (and with key fobs away from vehicle) to allow the radio to enter a "deep sleep" mode. This will mitigate the chances of any interruptions during the download process.
  • App-Over-The-Air (AOTA) will trigger, which refreshes internal radio apps. As your radio syncs with the cloud during this AOTA update time, your connected services and apps may work intermittently, and may take up to 24-48 hours to return to full functionality.
    • Some of these services include your WiFi hotspot, remote demands through the Ram App, etc.
  • You may have to re-pair your phones, reset your radio station presets, or delete & re-pair your Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connection

Outside of what you mentioned, how are we knowing that the dealer will allow the TSB to be completed and not get pushback in the name of “the TSB is not attached to your VIN”?

also for trucks built in Dec 2021 how can we be sure the factory or the dealer did the update before the truck is delivered to the customer
Hi there,

These are both great questions! If you're hesitant about visiting your dealer and would like extra support to ensure that you do not receive pushback for any reason, just send us a private message with your specific VIN! We can take a deeper look into it for you and get you arranged with the support you need, to put your mind at ease.

With software updates, our teams double down and ensure that there is a clean point for all of the vehicles leaving our factories. This means that every radio leaving our factory will be updated with the latest software version available for that unique, associated VIN. Since our dealerships are independently operated and owned, we cannot guarantee that every dealer will do their part to ensure that your radio is properly updated prior to pickup. We kindly recommend asking your dealer to double check your Uconnect system for available software updates, just as they would check any other concerns that you might have. You can follow up with our team at any point if you feel as if your system is working improperly.

Let us know if you have questions,

Courtney

We will continue to update this Uconnect 5 FOTA thread with the most up to the date software level and release date. We've heard your concerns and are happy to share that the national launch for our latest Flash Over The Air (FOTA) update began this morning (12/22/21)! For your convenience, I've included a snippet of the informational TSB 08-190-21 and the symptoms/conditions that it intends to address. With this FOTA, your Uconnect 5 systems will be brought up to a software level of S21D.5.

Customers may experience one or more of the following--
  • Apple CarPlay Concerns
  • Black Screen
  • Loud buzzing noise followed by radio reboot
  • Unable to switch between media sources while playing SXM
  • Radio shows screen off when comfort popup appears

what about the Air Intake Temperature only available on the home screen but not available in the Performance Pages Gauge Page.

other issues that would be great if they can be fixed:
- Full screen android auto
- pages changing back and forth if Android Auto is set up but not using the Andoid Auto Screen

I didn’t know there was a performance gauges page. There’s a lot about this new version I need to learn.

What about the trucks exported to Europe or other regions? Can we do this ourselves via wifi or internet through smartphone / hotspot?

How about fixing the climate shortcuts that continually disappear from the top of the display @RamCares ?
^ yes this, super annoying. I don’t no what I’m more surprised about, the fact they shipped trucks with software this unfinished in the first place or that they have actually been quick to release multiple updates.

and also the fact that no one in the factory or during software testing notices these big bugs...while an end user that is, not always, tech savy notices...

And for the million Plus trucks sold using Uconnect 4?

I bought/received my 2022 truck the 9th of December. The dealer didn't do the update, either because is wasn't available to them yet, or they didn't check. So now, I either have to take the truck back to the dealer or wait for the OTA update(s).

Somewhat a PITA either way. I guess I'll wait till next week and see if it updates OTA, if not try and make an appointment with the dealer.

I went out this morning and when I pulled into the garage, got the notice about the update. Fortunately, I haven't been experiencing as many issues as some have.

Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll update on my Christmas travels. I haven't been driving it much lately, so maybe it's possible it hasn't had a chance to update. 🤷‍♂️🤞

Have you checked what version you’re on? There was another update this morning that I received OTA.

My house has zero cell coverage. Can this be updated via a WiFi internet connection?
I think you need to have the setting turned on in UConnect. Surprised me at first, I turned my truck off and then the radio turned back on and showed that there was an update available. I haven't been back out there to see if its done or anything different.
