Hi everyone,

I saw there's a STAR case about the Upper Glove Box not latching. The Case Number is S1823000022. Although I am not a trained technician, maybe the door is not properly latching which caused the light to stay on. For more details about the STAR case, I recommend connecting with your dealer. Let me know if you need help coordinating an appointment.

One of these I had the ambient lights on. It doesn't matter the scenario, the light stays on. Even when I force the cover to seat where it should.
Mine is exactly the same. I think this is suppose to be like this

Yep. Definitely an issue and something that should not be happening. Take that bad boy in.

I just picked up my 19 ram Laramie today around noon, now that it is dark I noticed the top glove box LED is on and it won't shut off, I can see it through the 1/4" gap on the bottom. Super annoying. Am I missing something here, or has anyone else had this happen?

I had the same issue and the dealer had to replace the entire upper glove box assembly.

Best regards,
Dusty

The dealership started a STAR case and was going to get back to me after having it in the shop for a whole day. I will tell them to just replace the upper glove box assembly like you had to do.

So let me get this straight the light in the upper glove box is supposed to only be on if you open the door to it and you aren't supposed to be able to see it shining through at night.

Did this fix your issue then?? Does the light stay off when the door is closed?

I believe that when the glove box door is closed the light should go off. I am talking about the little light INSIDE the glove box, not the ambient lighting you can control from the dimmer switch to the left of the steering wheel. So to answer the question, no you aren't supposed to see the light shining through the glove box because the light is supposed to go off. I never had any problems with my 2017 2500 megacab.

It is, that's the ambient light and shines down from the lip of the dash on the top of the door. The problem is the light shining through the bottom of the door.

If it looks like this, it's fine.

I have the same issue, and my glove box ambient light does not work. If I look at the area where it should be, it seems it got disconnected or twisted during mfg somehow, as it’s very faint and I believe pointing up instead of down to shine light on the glovebox. Whenever I have to take it in, I’ll have them look at it.

There’s a guy on another RAM forum that had this same issue and they replaced his LED strip to fix it.

Any update on the result of the STAR / ne glove box assembly?

Thanks,

Whoa, wait a minute. My Laramie doesn't have a light at all. Top glove box, right?

If you have a Laramie, there should be two lighting features of the upper glove box.

There is a lamp that illuminates the interior of the upper glove box when the door is opened.

There is also another lamp that illuminates the opening between the top edge of the upper glove box door and the instrument panel and operates with the Ambient Light Dimmer control on the left side of the instrument panel.

Refer to the earlier post of Jared B on August 30. He was kind enough to provide a picture of what the Upper Glove Box Door ambient lighting looks like.

Best regards,
Dusty

Can someone explain the difference between Star and TSB?

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin and is issued by engineering to address specific issues and provide repair procedures.

A STAR (STAR Case) is a problem notification submitted by field service personnel notifying engineering of a customer problem and requesting resolution.

Dusty

Thanks. Knew what a TSB was but had never heard of Star. Must be FCA specific I presume?
