Rough Downshifting Coming to a Stop

Are you talking about hill start assist? That's the only option I have regarding anything "hill" related. All that is the brake holds the truck in place while on an incline so that when you take foot off the brake it doesn't roll backwards. Or are you talking about hill decent control?
He's talking about the Hill start assist.

I’m experiencing a condition where, while coming to a stop, the transmission shifts down pretty rough between all gears starting with about 4th gear, regardless of how light I am on the brakes. Then on takeoff, the engine seems to lunge the truck forward, despite trying to feather the gas pedal.

Truck is a 2019 Ram Big Horn 1500 DT Quad Cab with the 5.7 Hemi V8 VVT w/ eTorque.

@RamCares, can you please post a copy of TSB 21-005-19 Rev. B (or any newer superseding TSBs)? I have seen someone else mention this TSB for a similar issue and I think it may apply to my new truck. I have a due bill for a couple of items and I’d like to bring this issue up at the appointment as well. Thanks!
Found out what it is....I dropped off the Ram this morning at the dealership service center. They called within two hours stating it needed the newest software update. Reason being...the original program that leans and adapts to driving wasn't continuing to adapt like it's supposed to. This update HAS to be completed at a Chrysler service center. Hope this helps!

I'm noticing this issue as well. I just drove my Ram 1500 (now with approx. 6700 miles) to Florida for our family vacation this week and have been noticing the rough downshifting as well when coming to a stop. It is really noticeable when driving at low speeds.

Exactly what mine was doing...I'm telling ya; trans. Software update. Only takes a couple of hours at the most. But again...has be done at the dealership. It can't be reset without their diagnostic specialty software

Software update actually fixed that for you? You're lucky then... Did nothing for me.

Really? I'm surprised, it smoothed out a lot for me. The downshifts in mine are still a little more pronounced than I'm used to but that's usually the case with any other 8, 9 or 10 speed autos that I've driven in the past..that's normal, but not severe rough downshifting.

Is your truck equipped with eTorque?

Hi @ThisIsJamesReid - If you are planning to work with your dealer on this, I would be happy to escalate a case for further support!

Yeah whatever man.... I visit the dealer so often regarding this problem that he can't even look at me anymore.. My service advisor shakes his head whenever he see my truck pull in the driveway.
I just got my truck less then a week ago after having the dealer trying to figure out what this problem is for 10 days. TEN DAYS!!! I honestly think i qualify for lemon law or something already. this is ridiculous!

I could understand your frustration and I do apologize. If you are at all willing to perhaps receive a second opinion, I am happy to do what I can by opening a case and escalating for further support. This way, regardless of the outcome, your specialist can help you determine next best steps for your situation.

I have a case with Ramcares already sir, Thank you. If you want to go over it and check the details, the case number is 76293587.
Because the Drive shaft grease procedure is not a TSB, they can't do it under warranty, I will have to pay for it, Which i'm mot planning on doing.

Thank you for the follow up, I did look into your case to see that you were able to at least discuss this with your specialist. And I apologize, as I understand it is not the resolution you were hoping to receive. If you have any trouble communicating with your specialist or are in need of any additional support when you head back for the screen, please do not hesitate to follow up with us via PM.

So, I'm gonna throw in my ¢2
I have some funny behavior that I think is all related.

Issue 1:
Every once in a while - from the first month I had my truck, the climate control will just shut off. It's when I come to a stop. It seems like the trans doesn't want to kick down either....so it's sort of pushing while I'm trying to stop. The trans will finally kick down into 1, but at the same time, the air shuts off very abruptly. The controls say it's on. I have to turn off the climate and then turn it back on and it works as though nothing happened.
Issue 2:
about 6 months ago, my trans seemed to "learn" some bad behavior. I know the PCM is adaptive so it will learn and adjust to my driving. It used to be very crisp and clean when it would shift. I appreciated it very much, coming from slushy Ford transmissions. But, it started to get very lazy in between up-shifts.. they stopped being so crisp and it seemed to slip the clutches, and sometimes almost acts like a CVT. And, it doesn't want to down shift when coming to a stop. I'll leave a stop and it will seem to want to start in third gear unless I get pretty deep in the pedal. I have speed humps in my neighborhood which I slow down for, but when I'm accelerating, rather than kick down to 2nd, it wants to stay in 3 or 4, and it will accelerate while the RPMs stay flat - which is exactly what kills autos. I took it into the dealer, they flashed the trans with an update for a TSB. They did not reset the computer to factory, so the bad learned behavior - if it is that, still persists.
Issue 3:
Screen gets very hot. I thought at first it was just Florida. But even when the truck is ice cold inside, the screen is hot sometimes.

I noticed the other day that when my truck is acting up.. .the shift knob is hot. So I checked the screen, it's also hot at the same time.

Correlation? I don't know. But what I have observed is that when it happens to 1, it's happening to all. And, when the shift knob is cool, the screen is cool, and the driving behavior is nice - no funny business.

I haven't taken it back in. I hate to do the whole rental car BS and they say they can't find any issues, etc. So I'm trying to learn what I can first to see what others might have found be the cause and solution.

Hi @clintoris - If at any point you work with your dealer, please know that we are more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf for further support through that process. By doing so, a case specialist can assist you and the dealership in exhausting all available resources to have your concerns addressed and resolved.

I am at almost 16,000mi and recently noticed this hard shifting when coming to and leaving a stoplight and I only drive 2 clicks up from an old man when I am on surface streets. It's like being in a first class seat(which this truck is) and having some kid sitting behind you giving you a random kick in the seat. A wonderful experience soured by a minor but inescapable annoyance.

That being said I took it in and had the TSB 21-009-20 run among others... it made no change for me. I really love my truck but this drives me nuts every time I encounter a stoplight. Maybe I will unplug the battery and reset the 'puter.

I haven't had a chance to disconnect the battery yet but I did disable hill assist and that made an 80% improvement which leads me to believe this is a software/calibration issue.
