Rough Downshifting Coming to a Stop

Just an update on mine, I now have 30K miles as of this morning and it still does it. I literally just put it in 8th gear all the time, which helps alleviate the issue, however, when I brought it up to my advisor, they didn't really care, I even told him about which TSB, nada. I even had to ask him to please make a note on my file so that they can be aware.

When the transmission is at full operating temp, it goes away.
After I took mine to the dealer (6K miles) they did feel it but they said that was normal, now that I read this the message above, I just did the same thing with mine, set it to the maximum gear (8) and the jerking kindda of stop, the only thing is I will have to use the gear selector to take it to 8 gear and leave it there, the truck still switches up normally and downshift OK now...I'm assuming that having this gear selector set to the max gear will not cause any harm to my truck...anyways this annoying jerking coming to a stop as not been there since I selected to 8 gear in the :gear switch selector on my steering wheel.

I’m experiencing a condition where, while coming to a stop, the transmission shifts down pretty rough between all gears starting with about 4th gear, regardless of how light I am on the brakes. Then on takeoff, the engine seems to lunge the truck forward, despite trying to feather the gas pedal.

Truck is a 2019 Ram Big Horn 1500 DT Quad Cab with the 5.7 Hemi V8 VVT w/ eTorque.

@RamCares, can you please post a copy of TSB 21-005-19 Rev. B (or any newer superseding TSBs)? I have seen someone else mention this TSB for a similar issue and I think it may apply to my new truck. I have a due bill for a couple of items and I’d like to bring this issue up at the appointment as well. Thanks!
I've been having this issue from the beginning (now at 10,500 mi). I just assumed it was from my eTorque system/regenerative braking. I will ask about this TSB during my next service visit. Wish I would have searched for this sooner, but had other issues that were more important, like the dreaded vibration. It's so frustrating because you can't come to a nice smooth stop, like I can in every other vehicle I've owned.

Mystery solved, lack of grease in the odd rear design on the drive shaft. Have to remove drive shaft from rear of truck and add plenty of grease to the area that slides out from the dust cover sleeve. Posted a picture.

Do you have a better picture of where the grease was applied? did that solve the issue with the hard down shifting?
Please let me know,
Thanks!

I am experiencing the vibration when coming to a stop as well. Did you determine what was causing it? I have a brand new 2020 and I noticed it doing it around 1000k mi. And hasn’t stopped since...

The dealer updated my transmission software per the latest TSB and that has helped my ruff shifts when coming to a stop. As far as my vibration goes, that occurs from 60-65mph.

My 2019 has the same issue with hard downshifts also. I tried running my truck in tow haul on and the downshifts seemed a lot smoother. I did notice getting up to 5th gear and then pressing to brakes my truck went from 5th to 3rd and downshift hard. If you guys could try this out and tell me if you have the same results I would appreciate it. I love everything about my 5th gen except this hard downshifts. I've been kinda disappointed because my 97,03 and 09 Dodges never had one transmission issue.

Following. i've had this problem since day one(Kick when releasing brakes), went to the dealer a few time to be told it's "Normal". I didn't really feel it in the winter and it seems like the A\C has a lot to do with the harshness. Dealer says it's about "loads and driving conditions, the truck rides differently with different loads", which is true, i've never had this problem while towing.
IDK if i should go there again and waste my time for nothing...
What about this grease fix on the driveshaft? does it actually work?

Hi Mark, I had my truck to the dealer and they did a flash on the transmission for it not going in to first gear until the wheels had stopped a couple of months ago. Should that flash have helped the hard downshifts? Has Ram figured out anything on this issue?

Would you mind following up with me via PM to provide your VIN? I would like to look into this further on my end to determine how to best assist you at this point!

Do I reply on this site? I'm not really sure what you mean by pm.

My 2020 truck is having the same issue. It started doing it at 1,000 miles. I found a TSB for the 2020 so I am going to take it in and have the dealer take a look at it.

From my experience, Any tranny programming is good for a few days and then it comes back. I think it's an actual hardware problem and not software. I'm addressing this issue on Friday and will let you know if the Drive shaft grease fix is going to fix it.

Keep us updated. If the TSB doesn’t fix it and I would like to point the dealer in the right direction.

I've just been living with it. Everytime I drive the truck I feel it and it sucks. Just not worth my time to keep trying to have them fix it. Horrible excuse, I know. But I am just so busy. I really don't have time to deal with it. Wouldn't be so bad if my dealers offered some kind of loaner AND if they weren't 3+ weeks out on transmission work. Just getting an appointment is a hassle as well.

Hey friend, I'm sorry your dealer is being like that. You may wish to message RamCares on here. They will get you in touch with a customer service agent, who can get you a little better service most likely. I contacted them for my third repair, and the CS rep was great - she even got me squared away with an extended service plan (no cost for me) because of how many times I've dealt with the issue.
