I contacted Ram Cares and had them elevate this for me. Still no fix but at least it’s been elevated.

Why am I not surprised. Looking at the tailgate and bed I don't see any sensors so wonder if it was actually installed .

It's in the passenger side latch, but I didn't see anything either, but it's working now so it must be there. I also had it listed on my build sheet like you.

Guess I need to ask dealer about this when I go in for recall. My build sheet shows " Tailgate Ajar Warning Lamp" but nothing lights up or dings when I open the tailgate. No difference if sitting in park or backing up or in drive. Also tried with tailgate gently closed, not shut hard, no difference. No lights or alerts.
Hi @TX_Phil - I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf so that you have further support as you address this with your dealer. Please follow up with us via PM to start the process.

Hi @Mustangmike66 - Please be sure to reach back out should you have any trouble hearing from your specialist on this! Per your case, I do see that she was planning to follow up with you today.

I asked my Service Advisor and he told me that just means the Lamp is in the EVIC, not that it will work. Hahaha

Hi @Mustangmike66 - After you were in touch with your specialist on Friday, she has been trying to reach out to your Service Advisor at the dealership. She did call on Tuesday and Wednesday, however he is currently out sick so she is awaiting a follow up still. I have gone ahead and documented your outreach here so that she may follow up with you as soon as possible!

This came from my dealership when I went in to have this fixed and was told they would be in contact if/when engineering finds a fix.
Bull$hit, the "fix" is there, all they have to do is turn it ON, if AlphaObd can do it, Ram sure as hell can.

I drove home from work yesterday with the tailgate down without my knowledge the entire way. I found out when I put it in reverse to back into my driveway and saw the camera facing the road.

In my industry, it is required to back into parking per safety regulations in port facilities, so it has become habit from 30 years of doing so. When I park, I always back in, so when I leave from wherever I am, I do not go into reverse, therefore I do not see the backup cam.

I have about 100 pounds of tools in a sealed storage box in the very back of the bed next to tailgate for easy access. I'm glad I have a DeeZee bed mat, or I would have had tools all over the road and likely damaged many vehicles in the process or worse, injured/killed someone. A 5-pound mall going through someone's windshield at 65mph would be a situation from hell.

@Mark RamCares...Please do whatever you can to remedy this.

Service manager told me that they haven't released a fix for my truck. My truck has the lamp but it doesn't illuminate. And give me this paper.

That’s complete bull **** . I’m bringing my truck in for the auto high beams not working and this tailgate issue . If they don’t fix the tailgate issue I’m gonna start flipping tables .

Good luck. @RamCares has been working it for me for about a month now and it hasn’t gone anywhere. I haven’t heard from @RamCares on the issue for 2 weeks. It needs to be fixed!

My tailgate warning quit working too. It used to. Would love to know when Ram will fix this debacle. How can they sell us a product with a specific feature we pay for then take it away? Makes 0 sense to me.

No tailgate ajar light and bed lights on the cab do not come on when the tailgate is open. It is listed on my buildsheet as well. 2020 Laramie ecodiesel. How do the notify owners when they find a fix or do I just have to keep bugging the service dept?

It’s mentioned back in post 92 in this thread as well. Two settings in AlfaOBD. One should be set already, and the other needs to be turned on. I did it a while back and can confirm it worked for me as well.

I contacted FCA about this and they said there is a tsb but my truck build date (02/20) falls after the tsb dates. Going to see the dealer this afternoon to see what they say.

I found the TSB Sascuatch referenced. It appears that you have to LAN, XH5 and or MWK to get the tailgate open indicator to work. I will be looking into the Alfa OBD to see if I can get it to work.

Change “CBC Config IO F pin 26 Connector F Pin 26: Trunk/Liftgate Ajar Signal Input Present” to YES and that will fix it. It will also make your bed lights come on when you open the tail gate (overhead lights)
