Mopar’s “Ram Airflow” Cold-Air Intake System For Ram 1500:

Forced air induction is turbo or supercharger. Given that both the Ram Airflow and all of the sealed box CAI's(as well as factory) pull air from outside the engine bay but do not have an open unrestricted path on the outside of the vehicle(Airflow pulls from in front of the radiator, others pull from the fender well) they are not "ram air". The only reason the Ram Airflow would be any better than the others is the straighter and slightly shorter path from inlet to TB. If it had connected to a hood scoop or an inlet pipe at the front of the truck(like the air catcher headlamps on the Challengers) then it would be considered ram air. Realistically adding a better flowing filter to the factory box is all that is needed unless you are trying to dress up the engine bay or want the louder intake sound. Otherwise you are going to see similar(IE minimal) gains with any CAI.
 
I don’t know if that Nissan was CVT or not. But the kids do have a Honda CRV with CVT. Not that they know or care about gearboxes. It’s kinda weird flooring the throttle, getting to redline and seeing it stay there seemingly stuck as the gearbox changes ratios as speed increases. It does have a sport mode that acts a bit like Tow/Haul. I did drive a Pathfinder rental for 980 miles (in a day) two years ago. It was fine and comfortable if a little old school on the inside.

Yeah, the Maxima switched to a CVT in 2009 IIRC. The "rubber band" effect is well-known in CVT cars. We always said the Maxima was "tramlining" because with 290HP going straight to the front wheels, it made the front end want to wander.

Back to this RAM Air and my personal experience. I had a 2008 Honda Civic sedan that I installed a K&N Typhoon intake on. With that and a cat-back exhaust, it drove around with the A/C on like a stock car did with the A/C off. Also, that car really slowed down when you turned on the A/C.

Your missing the point, More Horsepower is produced the faster you go.

Therefore it has the potential of 30 HP gain at 100 HP.

So, when you are driving at lower speeds less horsepower realized.
No I get your point....but you don't get that horsepower unless you're downshifting to accelerate. It's RPMS that increase HP and Torque, not top speed. By the time you reach 100mph, you're already using all of the HP and Torque. I still believe Ram air is a good thing....but they don't produce these huge gains on a forced induction method. (Everything listed above is not only my opinion, but words from a service tech manager that's standing in front of me right now as I wait for an oil change).
 
Hi. I have a question. The lower section that houses the air filter shipped with a thin rubber trim piece that is on the edge around the outside of it. However, it does not want to stay on. Did you remove it or figure out a way to secure it?

Without having a pic to look at, my first thought is to put a thin layer of clear silicone around the edge you are speaking of and then attach the thin rubber trim piece to it and let it cure. I would think that may do the trick.
 
What is everybody doing with the stock intake once you replace it? I have installed the Mopar CAI but I have no idea what to do with the stock intake.

Too bad ya can't sell it back to Mopar lol. Maybe just keep it for a rainy day or for if The Mopar one gives you a problem...?
 
I would put it in a box in your garage so if you ever sell your truck, you can convert it back and then sell the one you bought on the forum.
 
Explain the gains seen in this 5.3 NA engine with CAI alone then if you know for a fact these are all just aesthetics and do not add any power to NA engines. 1 popular example of many. Do not just try to disregard this video as being from a successful youtuber as there are many others just like it.

I'm still a believer that CAI don't add power...just help engine breathe easier and provide better throttle response and sound. I still might get the Mopar one though
