intermittent humming noise and vibration

They should do a recall fix it’s an annoying noise for our new trucks
I agree, read somewhere to remove fuse to the anc or unplug it and bypass it. The harnesses are sold online somewhere. Seems to be a common issue that someone came up with a fix for but its aftermarket. Wish ram would get it together and just put it back to how the 2018 and older models were, never heard it kn the older ram 1500s.

Replaced the vibration actuator sensor and no fix, truck still makes the same noise and am told it's normal and nothing they can do, never heard this noise on any other truck I've driven. Am pursuing ram to buy it back or replace.

I am sorry to hear this update, @Caram. Please do not hesitate to follow up with me via PM so I can escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist for further support.

Ok I will have to find it , wonder if it will throw an engine light lol

I bought my '19 RAM Big Horn new this past June, and I've had the drone problem as long as I can remember.
I finally decided to check out the forum to see if anybody else was having the issue and .... Wow!
When it happens for me pretty much matches the bulk of what has been described here:
  • RPM above the 1250 mark and below 1500.
  • Any gear, any speed, but more noticeable at steady speed or slowly decelerating.
  • MDS activated.
The volume varies, and I assume that's due to whatever else is in the truck at the time.

The sad part about this is that judging from the posts, there was a TSB available for this problem before I took delivery.
Anyway, looks like I'll be getting in touch with the dealer soon.

Following up on my experience with this. I did eventually take my truck to the dealership -- waited until it hit 10K miles and needed the oil changed. They performed a "module update," And I haven't heard the noise since.

How was price to do that update ?

Anc module or vibration damper module ?

I bought a 2020 RAM Limited and started to hear the white noise makers on the passenger side sound like high wind flow past a vent. I read the forums and spoke to a person that was knowledgeable about the design of the system. I determined that the wire may be too close to the door speaker or something being impacted by EMF under a certain set of circumstances. I checked the wire bundle to the drivers door and the passenger door for comparison and noticed that the passenger side was much much stiffer. I did what I call a wire wiggle on the passenger side, basically exercised the bundle going to the door to get it as loose as the drivers side. After I did this I never heard the sound again. A problem so annoying was fixed by exercising the wire bundle. Woohoo!

When I told an employee with the company about what I did to fix my issue, he mentioned that they were suppose to free the wire bundle at the factory and if they missed it, the dealership was suppose to catch it and free the wire bundle. In my case, neither the factory nor dealership freed the wire bundle as evidenced by it being very very stiff. When Engineering was informed of the wire wiggle fixing the issue, their reply was that it makes sense and that it should have been freed at the factory or dealership.
I hope others find this helpful. What do you have to lose in trying it out on your new truck before you get upset about having to take your new truck into the dealership. It doesn’t cost anything, takes only minutes to try, and will save you lots of waiting time and frustration if it works. I am sure glad that it worked for me.

Hi Crow, Any luck with this issue. I have it also and been to the dealer 2 times now. Can’t replicate it when they drive it around the block so send me home. Frustrated to know end as they seem to just dismiss me without looking into it to follow up. Done everything you’ve mentioned from my doing research and requesting these things done with no luck. Very irritating nose when it cycles on and off for 10-20 minutes and/or gets so loud you want to cover your ears. My passengers have heard it too. I’ve tried to figure out when or why it does it. I’m a computer tech so pretty good at narrowing down specifics but having no luck figuring this one out other than it seems to do it mostly when I lift pressure from the gas peddle or when it gets a pull from a steep uphill street and constant pressure on the gas peddle. Have had it do it at all speeds from hiway to pulling up to a parking space. I also recorded it with my phone but when I couldn’t hear it when I played it back I just deleted the video. Wish I still had it. Anyway, this is my 2nd vehicle for long distance travel, 92 Ford F-150 for daily driving so don’t drive this one very often and it doesn’t do the hum/drone every time I drive it to re-record it again. Anyway, If you’ve gotten a solution please email me at [email protected] because my dealership is no help.

My truck has been doing the exact same thing for a year and a half and the dealer can never duplicate the noise and told me its just my transmission "learning" how I drive. I called BS from the start but didnt know what else to do. Have you had any luck on a resolution yet with your dealer? I read it may just be some kind of update but I guess i want to know exactly what to tell my dealer to do so its fixed.
Thanks!

We really need a TSB for this. My truck has been doing it since I bought it over a year ago... it really pisses me off to no end when it decides it wants to drone.

I might need to read through this thread a little more to see if I can fix it myself. I am sick of it.

Hi @Sbrand03 & @TheMadDutchDude - If you address this any further with your dealers, please be sure to follow up with us via PM. We would like to ensure that your situations are formally documented, as well as provide both you and your dealer with an additional layer of support in addressing your concerns.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I just picked up my 2020 1500 Laramie last week, I had 2017 Bighorn before this new truck. I have 200 miles on the truck and I noticed the humming/droning noise only at highway speeds and it's very intermittent. Has there been any new info out on this? I called Ram Care and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. I don't want to bring it back to the dealer already just so they can say they can't duplicate, I want to drive it and enjoy it!!

Hello, I purchased my beautiful black Ram Bighorn in May 2018 and to date have logged 5500 frustrating miles on it. It seems this truck is plagued with the familiar loud intermittent humming noise. One never can tell when it will rear it's ugly head. So far it has been in the shop 4 times and the service dept. has not yet been able to diagnose the problem. fortunately for me they have heard the awful annoying noise so they know that I am not crazy. Company created a case but after two weeks and no problems they dropped it. yesterday the noise and vibration returned. So far dealership has replaced the cats and upgraded the transmission computer. neither have helped resolve the issue. Same old if it's not doing it when you come in we can't find the problem. Definitely having buyer remorse.
Just joined as a new member, my 2019 Ram 1500 has the same issues. Just went up to Seattle and all the way back to Portland it was a nonstop intermittent very annoying humming sound. When slowing it turned to an ungodly roar that would make the dash rattle. Only have 5,500 miles and scheduled for a spray-on bed liner later this week. Thinking I need to cancel. Also have a Leer topper ordered. I’m thinking I might get burned on that putting it on a lemon.

I’m taking mine in later this week, maybe I can find out something new. If they can‘t resolve the issue I believe this would fall under our states lemon law. our lemon law requires the dealer to buy the vehicle back at purchase price less mileage.
