intermittent humming noise and vibration

Hello, I purchased my beautiful black Ram Bighorn in May 2018 and to date have logged 5500 frustrating miles on it. It seems this truck is plagued with the familiar loud intermittent humming noise. One never can tell when it will rear it's ugly head. So far it has been in the shop 4 times and the service dept. has not yet been able to diagnose the problem. fortunately for me they have heard the awful annoying noise so they know that I am not crazy. Company created a case but after two weeks and no problems they dropped it. yesterday the noise and vibration returned. So far dealership has replaced the cats and upgraded the transmission computer. neither have helped resolve the issue. Same old if it's not doing it when you come in we can't find the problem. Definitely having buyer remorse.

I would call it more of a “roar” or a pulsating hum than anything else. More pulsating than steady. This is the first I heard this since purchasing the truck in September. It almost feels like it’s pullimg back against the acceleration.

I would call it more of a “roar” or a pulsating hum than anything else. More pulsating than steady. This is the first I heard this since purchasing the truck in September. It almost feels like it’s pullimg back against the acceleration.

This just started happening to my truck this evening. It has 6670 miles and the noise can be heard throughout the RPM range. It didn't matter the speed it was a pulsating humming. I'm going to see what happens tomorrow and schedule an appointment with the dealership

Started my truck today and the humming noise is gone. I originally thought this issue was due to my Pedal Commander so I disconnected the device. I'll re-connect it this afternoon and see if the issue returns.

I have a 2019 Ram for about 4 weeks now (1600 miles) and have this same humming/vibration as well. It "comes on" at low speed mostly and while I'm in 2 wheel drive. When I manually down shift, which brings the RPM's up, I can get it to go away. So if I drive in Tow/Haul Mode it's much less evident. It's starting to happen at slightly higher speeds now.
Just a FYI on me.... I'm a certified mechanic with 40 years experience.
There seems to be quite a bit of commotion over this and I would like to know if Dodge has made a TSB as of yet please?

I purchased a 2019 RAM in mid December 2018. I have a humming/vibration at lower speeds. I've noticed that if I manually downshift or put it in tow hall mode I can almost clear it up. It feels as though something is rubbing like the exhaust or something. You could also say it's as if the transmission is in to high of a gear for the actual speed. While I don't know either of these things to be the case that is what it feels like.
I do see there are quite a few complaints on this form and a few others. Is there a TSB out for this yet?

Well I must join the club on this issue, I thought to myself that I'm just listening too hard but this has confirmed my concerns. I hear the exact same humming everyone of you have described.

A humming/vibration can be a million things, but there is one that I can think of that comes somewhat close to a droning noise and that is when the Eco kicks in; where I suspect MDS is activated. I think that sound has been described as a droning/hum type of noise; in prior years as well. So when I read lower speeds, I think MDS...maybe a combo of that and whatever eTorque might be doing if you have that as well. Have you tried turning it off? Which is effectively what happens when you do the manual shift...thus it going away then.

I have had the same issue. It seem to me that it happens, when I let off the the gas and at lower speeds. Thought it might be something to do with the Etorque system or the regenerative braking. Sounds like a lot of people have had this problem. Wondering if there is a fix, or what I need to do.

I had the same thing happen to me for the first time today at just under 600 miles. It happened right at startup, so it's definitely not a transmission issue since I hadn't even gotten out of park. After about 30 seconds it went away so I tried driving it, within 500 feet it began to happen and continued to happen for the 10 miles I drove to drop my kid off at school. I parked it and came back a few hours later and it was perfectly fine. I planed on bringing it to the dealer but no warning lights came on and without it doing it at the time I know the dealer is not going to be able to do anything about it.

Sounds like cylinder deactivation and MDS kicking in. Not necessarily a problem but more of a feature?

I purchased a 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 one day ago with "11" miles on it. I noticed today when I got on a paved street (not covered in snow) at about 35 mph the truck started humming really loud like it wasn't in the correct gear. When I got onto the highway it makes the same humming noise at 55 mph and above. I only have about 100 miles on it so far. The noise is so loud that I can feel the vibrations in my feet. Does anyone know what's up with this?

I had 220 miles on it when it reared it's head... we had a slight dusting of snow/ice on the ground I put it in 4x4 auto before putting it in drive... I got about 600 feet down the road and let off the gas and it started... i disengaged the 4x4 and continued on my way... it has persisted every now and again ever since and it's usually when i let off the gas... speed doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. I just read in another search it was suggested to make sure all 4 tires are @ 40lbs cold with a good gauge, don't rely on tpms.... I did that about 5 minutes ago.. didn't drive yet... will definitely keep on this thread to see if anyone finds what it is... It's aggravating the crap out of me because I just traded in my 2015 big horn that I absolutely loved and never had a problem with.

Not a tire pressure issue... 40lbs in all 4 tires and its happening just as if not more often... always during deceleration with foot off the gas. press gas down engine accelerates and sound goes away... What is this I am reading about MDS? guess I better pull out the ol manual.

Hello Lemon Aid, I purchased the Rebel 4whl last October had the same problem. Please email me at [email protected] I would like to send you a short video so you can hear my truck. I currently have an issue when backing out of my garage on cold mornings, but once heard the similar humming noise when on the highway. Like you, the truck would not re-produce the noise when at the dealer, so they could not find the problem.
