Fueling issues

I got my truck back and Yes. Replacing the tank solved the issue. After the dealer installed it, I took it straight to the gas station, inserted the nozzle and locked the nozzle on high and just stood there happily watching 24 gallons fill the tank.

awesome news man I’m glad the new replacement helped solve the issue. It didn’t for mine unfortunately. Currently 3 weeks at the shop still no answer

Had my repairs done today. Dropped off this morning, picked up after lunch. Does not appear to have fixed the problem. I have the 33 gallon tank and dropped it off on E.

Put 10 gallons in after I picked it up...it'll go to 3 gallons before shutting off. The last time I filled it, it was 0.3 before shutoff.

I'll give it a few days to burn some fuel off and try another station before calling the dealer and getting a tank on order.

To those in this thread - do you have the 26 or 33 gallon tank?
To update you guys.... still have this issue.

However, traded in my truck so I won't be seeing the tank replacement.

were you leasing or buying? That’s crazy did you go with another ram or changing brands?

The trade had nothing to do with the fuel tank issue...actually didn't know it was still an issue until after I had it traded and went to put a few gallons in.

Changed from a car allowance to a company vehicle shortly after my ordered Ram came in. Great truck - love it. We opted to sell the wife's car vs the Ram over a year ago and sold our trailer boat for a 37'. Rams not going to tow that lol. Got her an SUV that'll fit in the garage.

Finally, after the temp fix from the dealer, I received my call and they finally got the part in sock. I took my truck in about a week ago, I was initially told it's a one day job but since they started working on the truck late, it took them two days. Got my truck back with the new gas tank and have been to the gas station 3x already with no issues pumping gas (crossing fingers here) hope I don't run into this problem again.

I'm dropping mine off in about ten days to get the fuel fill replaced (maybe the tank?) and I was planning to drop her off on E... no way I'd expect them to siphon out 33 gallons or burn it off.

Sounds to me like someone just used your truck around town as I doubt they paid someone 5 hours to drive around.

Another plus for a dashcam!
I'm dropping my 2018 Big Horn off next Tuesday with the same fueling issue. The filler neck and/or gas tank are covered under the 7/70 emission warranty. I'll keep y'all posted on the outcome.

I have this issue too, but I also had this with my GMC, so maybe I am doing something wrong:LOL:

Anyhow, in order to fill the tank, I just use my finger and keep a small gap in between the pump and filler neck and it fills up with no issue. This can be annoying, as I can just leave it and let it fill up.

I will add this happens most at Costco.

Also my wife Ford Exploder has the no fuel cap system and it fills up just fine no matter the station. 🤷‍♂️

My wife and have a 2019 Big Horn. This is our 3rd Ram since 2014 and we love it. BUT, we are having an issue fueling it. It has no gas cap and when I put the gas nozzle in and start fueling, it stops every 20 seconds or so. I have tried adjusting how the nozzle is in and the angle but nothing solves the issue. It sucks standing in -20C trying to fill a truck up. Can anyone help?
I've had same issue and just joined a class action lawsuit because it is so annoying.

Thanks, I may do that if it gets worse, but for now its not much a issue :)

I just got my 2020 1500 Limited 2 weeks ago. Have filled up twice, and both times the nozzle kept shuting off. The first time I pulled the nozzle out a little and didn’t latch it and it took a long time to fill. The second time I filled up, I pulled the nozzle out a little and set it on the first/slow notch. When it was full, the nozzle did not click off and fuel ran all over the place.

I‘m thinking of taking this to the dealer now. What should I tell them to replace - filler neck, tank or what? I’m not looking forward to this.

There's two different threads going on about same issue. One problem was that the filler neck and/or gas tank needed replacement. The other guys issue was that there was some sort of icing up in the filler neck and the issue resolved itself after he had it in a heated garage over night.

How do you join the class action lawsuit? My dealer treats me like I dont know how to put fuel in a vehicle. Saying its the angle of the nozzle or its one of the pumps that puts advertising on the nozzle and has a big block on it. For me its been many stations but always seems worse when its cold out

I have a 2018 Laramie 4x4 and a 2020 Laramie 4x4 have the same issue with both trucks. I usually just have to keep adjusting the nozzle until it will flow, very annoying!

I guess I will join the fueling issue club. My '20 Gen 5 Laramie with 5.5' bed and 26 gallon tank filled up just fine for the first 5000 miles. Then it suddenly stopped taking gasoline. Pump shut off every couple of seconds regardless of pump or station with one exception: It fills up without an issue if I use the one station left in my mountainous county that still has non vapor recovery pumps.

I took my truck to the dealership (1.5 hours each way!) over Thanksgiving. They verified the issue and replaced the filler neck. First 2 fill ups it worked OK.

Now it's back to the same old pump shut off issue. It had gotten so bad that I had to fill from two 6 gallons gas cans using the little funnel device that came with the truck.

Made the long trip to the dealer yesterday and they are keeping the truck for a few days over Christmas. The service advisor said that FCA required them to first change the filler neck (which they did) before allowing them to replace other parts. He also said that there are 2 other Gen 5 trucks, a Chrysler Pacifica and new Jeep Gladiator at their shop with the same issue. And this is a small but nice dealership up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of CA.

This is my second RAM. My '17 Ecodiesel was problem free other than recalls for 67k miles. But I wanted more tow capacity so I bought the Gen 5. Beautiful truck loaded with enough technology to get you to Mars and back. Too bad they can't get the basics such as fuelling the truck right.

Had my first issue last night while filling up my 2020. NEVER had a problem before but last night (at the same pump I go to everytime) the nozzle would shut off every 3 seconds or so. So naturally I roid raged and shoved that SOB in as hard as I could and it finally began to fuel correctly. That was extremely frustrating. I read online of a class action lawsuit pertaining to 2015-2019 Ram 1500's, the lawsuit is for defective filler necks.

That lawsuit involves the Classic series. My 2020 isn't part of it. Part of that suit deals with the nozzle actually getting stuck in the neck requiring an hour or more to actually remove it.

First replaced Filler Tube and then tank, which seems to have fixed the issue. Had mine for 3 bloody weeks!
Is your truck still without the initial filling quirks? I am experiencing the same issue. My 2019 Laramie has spent more time at the dealer getting fixed than on the road being driven. My issue started less than 10 days after ownership.

I had the problem with my BMW and only at certain pumps at the same station. Other pumps, the fill was fine. I was at the same station yesterday and filled up and the pump kicked off 3x before even hitting $5. So I removed the nozzle from the tank, allowing it to keep the filler neck door open for a few seconds, then put the nozzle in as far as I could get it. It filled the remaining 21 gallons without issue (33 gallon tank)
