Just called to schedule service for my '19 Rebel for the same clunk and the upper glove box light coming on randomly. Will update with anything new, but I figure they'll just torque some connections up front and realign the glove box door and send me on my way.

I had my dealer look replace a scratched headlight (on delivery) and mentioned this:

"Found weld splatter between A pillar cab mounting bracket and body of vehicle. Sanded off weld splatter on body of vehicle and reassembled vehicle."

I'm not so sure it is fixed, not to mention the pop happens on the passenger side too.

I would say it's very possible this is a parts related issue, with that mount being some sort of fancy hydraulic dampener. For me it isn't really that loud, and is more of a soft pop than a clunk. I am happy waiting for the TSB.

I have a three week old 2019 Limited. 1100 miles, two wheel drive. air suspension. Have the clunk also on driver side , can feel thump thru floor board, with right or left turns. I do notice that when in Off Road 2 it will occur less often and make less noise. The lower the truck the more apt it will Clunk.

I just got off the call with my service department - they are going to schedule keeping the truck for up to a week, while they take the cab off to look for bad welds and check everything. I haven't decided if I want to mention the star cases or just let them go through it all...

There is a verified fix for the clunking that's been implemented by several of us that had it... and that ain't it.

I went in and mentioned the star cases. The service advisor indicated this is what they feel like they need to do. Hard to argue for them to do less when they are going to do that much work *shrug*

@RamCares - should I be concerned? They aren't starting until 11/5.

I got an e-mail from @RamCares today that stated that STAR case S1823000050 might be the resolution.

Did anyone else get this and is there anyone that can tell us what the STAR case says? I'd like to make sure this has a chance to fix it before I waste mine and the dealers time. Also I have noticed that since it's gotten colder in the Chi town area I am noticing the clunk much less. Anyone else experience the same thing?

Yes that is the case number, make the dealer aware of it at least because that is an "official fix" they have verified, and try to take it when it is making noise. We had ours in Monday and it didn't do it so they couldn't do anything. Consensus seems to be that cooler weather is making it less obvious at least. Must stiffen mount insulators up enough they aren't flexing like when warm

Looking at the actual design of the absorber.. as it was posted it has hydraulic fluid internally. So it could make sense that it is quiet with colder temps. Fluid thickens up in colder temps. After seeing the design though and the noise I came to the conclusion that me tightening the bolts fixed it because it may have already compressed it passed the point the noise is made. So if I compressed the absorbs just another 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch that may have been the clunk because it was trying to get the initial compression achieved.

Hard to explain but it makes sense in my head maybe not in text.

Are you planning on taking it to the dealer for an official inspection? Send me a direct message if you need any assistance with that process!

@19RamLimited Makes sense to me, may actually end up doing that with ours cause it's such a headache dealing with service dept. Said you went a few pounds more on torque on reinstall right?

Hi echristi,
If you would like us to look into this for you, we can continue our private message conversation from a couple of week ago so I can gather some more information from you so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

I would like to drive some more so that I can give a good an explanation as possible as to what is happening. I will be towing a travel trailer in the near future, opportunity to see what difference it may make with extra tongue weight?

Jasmine, today I was in my truck , parked, no radio noise, very quiet, engine running, I would start by raising the truck to Off Road position 2, then lowered truck down one level at a time and paused, when I lowered down from eco to exit after pausing for about 15 seconds I heard/felt a component jumping ( lightly felt clunks) the three (3) clunks were about 2 seconds apart.
I was able to replicate this twice.
Please pass this on to RAM

Just dropped the Rebel off for this issue, plus the glove box, and a rough shift at low speeds. Tech says it should be done tomorrow or Wednesday. He was aware of STAR issues for both the thunk and the glove box.

Anyone else get the quality survey and have an error when they try to submit it? Funny that the quality survey itself is buggy and doesn't work.

@I Love Grits @alwi228

What’s the current mileage on your trucks? Mine has about 350 miles on it. If it’s still an issue after 3-4K mi, that would help me figure out if it’s potentially a break in item or not.

I pick up my 2019 Laramie Sport Edition on September 26, 2018. I drove from NY to FLA last week and the truck was awesome on the highway. I have a little over 3,000 miles now.

@Icecold77, I agree with you. My clunk has diminished greatly, but I'm still awaiting a TSB until I take it back in. My dealer hasn't heard of an issue and I don't want my truck to be their experiment without clear instruction. Until then, I'm trying to enjoy my 60k investment as much as possible. When all is said and done, I take comfort in knowing that if anything major or minor happens, FCA/Ram will be on the hook for it anyway. They know this and I'm sure they're working on something to keep the launch of a brand new product as smooth as possible. My .02.

Same here. My clunk has diminished over time (1600 miles on the odometer). I took it in and the dealer was useless but in their defense, I couldn't replicate the noise. However they weren't even interested in looking for it or helping me. Can't hear it....can't help you. I asked them for a hammer and I would bang on the bottom of the truck so they could hear what it sounds like and where it's coming from. Explained that there are large numbers of folks with the same issue documented in a STAR case. No interest. I asked them to check basic suspension components . The response I received was, "There's over 400 bolts in the suspension. I can't look at every one."

It was a productive visit because now I know they aren't really a service department I want to take my truck to or that I can rely on for anything.

Like you, I'll wait until there is a more concrete resolution for the issue rather than let them experiment on my truck which is otherwise totally awesome.
