Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

what is a star case

STAR is when your dealer works with a FCA engineer to troubleshoot issues you’re having with a vehicle after the dealer has tried without any luck to fix your problem. It’s a step of escalation with FCA and your dealer. Service dept’s will be able to look at STAR cases in the future when this issue is corrected and see what the fix was so others don’t have to go through what we’re experiencing.

UPDATE: Was (finally) contacted by a case manager from Chrysler. I have another service appointment Monday and the dealer will be in touch with FCA engineers and my case manager on a fix. Things are moving along slowly but surely.

Going in the right direction at least. Hopefully they get this resolved for you guys quickly.

Traded in my perfectly fine 17 rebel with 10k miles for this and its really dissapointing. Also the fact the truck had a nice pillar dent and dent in passenger door. and multiple light scratches here and there most likely from the dealer prep guy who might as well just wash the truck with a wash mitt filled with sand . I didn’t see when I picked up because it was rainy and cloudy . Brought back to dealer today and they said they would make good of it,will see. I believe my production was 6/18. I’m glad I made the right decision in leasing this instead of buying it .

Hi Mksrt,

Been a couple days now since my fix that I posted. I’m so skeptical, I’m scared to sound optimistic. However, I will say that my clunk has left me for the time beeing. I think the 1-2 times I swore I felt it, you could have blown ur horn at me and I would have said it was a clunk. Almost like the fear u have after an operation and u swear it’s not fixed. I’ve ridden around with the music off and AC down low and listening/feeling like a hawk and it’s no longer there.

So if it comes back, I would say it’s suspension related because one or all of those things they tightened has stopped it for the time being. I gotta admit I’ve rocked back and forth on some irregular turns/bumps/ dips that twists my truck—and nothing. I usually feel it on some sharper curves or intersection turns and I’m not now.

I won’t have another report until Sunday night or Monday. I’ve been neglecting my Harley since I bought this ram. Time for some wind therapy the next couple days.

I know exactly how you feel about the paranoid "ghost noises", I swear I hear a compressor struggling often while I'm driving... but I don't have air ride this time! Just my imagination and subconscious hears it because that's all I heard for 11 months in my 16'... the buzzzzz of a struggling sick air compressor getting nowhere as I cursed the truck driving on the bump stops down the highway. I think it takes a while to get over something like that.

Let’s look at as a positive, they are monitoring this website and the issues. Even if they don’t respond, I believe they are forwarding the info to someone to look into a possible solution for the issues.

I believe this too, but am not sure. I wonder if @RamCares is able to tell us how collecting the VINs helps the consumers/owners? I suspect they can’t do full customer service here just through this site’s PM system as they need to have a record of interactions of each case. Just a guess on my part though.

I am having the same issue on my 19 Ram 1500 Limited :/ Today I tightened up every bolt I could underneath the front end and loosened the sway bar clamps to the frame and the noise pretty much diminished. I tightened them back up and the noise became more prominent. So I loosened them again to the point that its hand tight so it won't loosen on its own and tried it again and did not hear the noise. It may be a sway bar issue IDK I just hate taking my stuff to the dealer and having to justify that there is an issue they don't hear and want to repair.

I can verify @RamCares does reply! I had an issue with my "lack" of rain sensing wipers, that turned out to be a combination of no manual and a uneducated salesman creating panic by misleading me. I let Ramcares know everything was fine and Jasmine replied! So they are collecting and once there is info or a reason to reply I'm sure they will.

To be fair, I also received a reply today. They explained that they get to these in the order they’re received and they were very backed up which is a whole other cause for concern lol but they knew the name of my case manager which proves they actually did look into it so I would like to thank @RamCares for their help and hope they can offer others some guidance with issues.

Definite possibility on the sway bar. I went under mine and noticed the sway bar clamps that go around the bushings weren’t torqued down all the way. I snugged them down and drove for about 30 mins without hearing anything. Basically the opposite of what you did so we’ll see if either of us have any longer term luck with it.

Appreciate both of you (@Joker4L ) providing information on the sway bar input. I have had two laramies since June and both have done the same thing and I am in a holding pattern now. I really love the truck otherwise the issues we all share at this point. I am really hopeful a TSB can be produced soon. I talked to my dealer today and they questioned whether this issue is truly being escalated to FCA as an urgent matter to be fixed. I really hope @RamCares have a direct feed to FCA or whoever can address this issue and at least provide some update on the examination of the issue by FCA.

The dealer should be pushing it up the chain. I have started networking with other dealers in my area about this issue. Everyone is aware of it. I have been told FCA is aware of it and was aware of it during production but things were so rushed and hyped up, they pushed on knowing good and well about it and now want the dealers to figure it out. I’ve done everything I can by opening a CARE and STAR case on this issue. I hope they are working on a fix. Back to the dealer for me Monday for this and a potential oil leak- what a time to be alive. Having a real love/hate relationship with my truck at the moment.
