Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

Well I was getting the clunk under my feet where the driver front body mount is located. This would happen while turning onto pavement that had a transition that dropped 1-2 inches.

I decided to check the torque of the body mount bolts. Spec is 80ftlbs. The driver front was not quite to 80ftlbs, passenger front was at 80ftlbs.

I tightened all 4 body mounts to 90ftlbs. They are large bolts, not problem handling that torque or even more. That seems to have solved my clunking issue so far. I couldn't get the truck to clunk on the 7 mile commute to work.

Truck is back in to the dealership and this time I took out the Technician on a drive to replicate the sound. Also showed him the US Service Bulletin as it isn't up here in Canada yet for 2019-2020 model years. Here is hoping they fix it this time around.

Does anyone know if @RamCares looks after Canada as well? Looks like they cannot apply the TSB to mine as the truck is a 2020 and doesn't fall under that TSB. They tighten the A-Pillar body mount bolts so hopefully that did the trick. Not counting in it as they were then trying to blame my winter tires/rims that are smaller than the factory 22". Winter tires and rims 17" are sized identical to the 22" setup as they are Ram Rebel sizing.

I’m starting to hear a slight clunk in the rear end only when turning left and into a driveway or slight change in grade. Cannot for the life of me figure it out.
Hello @z0n3 -- If at any point you decide to address this with your Ram dealer, our team is just a private message away and more than willing to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist for further support through that process.

@redevil, our team is unfortunately unable to assist alongside dealer services outside of the United States. We kindly recommend following up with our Canadian Customer Care team for further support. Parts are on order from the dealership finally. Had to get the ball rolling with Customer Cares in Canada. Hopefully this fixes the issue after going back four times to the dealership.

Well had my truck back into the dealer to have them replace the a-pillar mounts. Had supplied them with a video of the mount movement and the sound it made when hitting a certain type of bump.
They agreed that they needed to be replaced as per the TSB, even though my truck being a 2020 it didn’t apply.
They replaced
2 - 6512984AA Frame - hex head
2 - 6512962AA Screw - hex flange head lock
2 - 68246280AD Isolator - body hold down
2 - 68264396AB Absorber
2 - 6512988AA Bolt - hex flange head
2 - 6511825AA Screw - hex flange head tapping

That being said I still have the clunk/ thump underneath.

That sucks. At least with my 2020 the A pillar body mount it was a torque spec issue. I would check how tight the bolt is. Should be at least 80ftlb.

Air suspension, no clunk
I have a 19 with air suspension and I've had a clunk on a hard turn now and then but not all the time..BUT I have a rough country 5" lift on it so I'm certain that lift will get the blame as the sole problem 🙄

Hey Attaboy,

If you continue to work with your dealer to address this, please know that we are just a PM away and more than happy to provide you with additional support for that process.

Just hit 51K miles and am dealing with a clunk and rattling noise under my feet. Plan on taking mine in to see if they’ll check out TSB 23-047-18. Wish me luck.

Couldn’t get any dealer to look at it for 60 days. Just ordered all the Mopar parts from the TSB and a set of SuspensionMaxx front sway bar links just in case. Hopefully that’ll take care of it when I put them on. Should be nice since I just put a new set of Cooper AT3 LTs on last week.

TSB complete and sway bar end links replaced. Both A pillar mounts showed the bottoms wore to bare metal. Pic is the better of the two next to the old one. Passenger end link was loose on top but completely shot. Drivers side was tight but sloppy after removal.

The clunk is mostly gone. I still feel something hitting my feet sometimes followed by a rattle in the same spot or from the transmission hump when when backing out of the garage. This also happens at the end of my driveway when backing onto the street.

I can repeat the sound when moving the pickup 1-2 feet forward or reverse or on a hard bump when driving.

So far I haven’t found anything loose by the firewall or between top of the transmission or bottom of the cab. Anyone have ideas? My next theory is the front end struts may be bottoming out at the end of the driveway.

The pickup rides a bit stiffer with far less sway than before which is nice. I’m still trying to eliminate this gremlin.

Update: Drove my usual workday routine for three days then had a chance to re-torque the pillar mounts and sway bar end links. The clunk/clicking is eliminated but time will tell. I wonder if the parts needed some time to properly seat, if we use that term, then re-torque. If it comes back I’ll update.

Still been chasing this clunk/rattle for the last 6 -8 weeks. I’ve replaced the front sway bar bushings, end links with Supermax links, replaced the A pillar mounts just as the TSB says.

Still get the noise/rattle with forward/reverse movement (1-5 mph) and when leaning while turning at slow speeds. I just got done doing the procedure outlined in post #545 with no luck. The steering wheel is glass smooth with no feedback or other odd behavior. I also added Timbrens front/rear, and a Hellwig 709 set in the middle hole.

I’m assuming the next step is replacing the B & C pillar mounts?

BTW, do NOT torque the bolts much higher than 90 ft/lbs. had one snap off on the B pillar at 90-ish because the lock on my torque wrench slipped. Got lucky that I backed it out after jacking it just high enough to get some needle nose vice grips on what was left and it came out.
