Well went that route on telling dealer wanted new rack as well as the case manager at FCA. Told them I am not gambling with my life since dealer cannot duplicate the failure. What, they want me to end up in oncoming traffic again!!!!

Absolutely. I was ready to make a scene.
Driving it on mountain interstates i was legitimately afraid for my life.

based on this thread i'm starting to think FCA got the month wrong on the tsb i posted earlier.

I've got a 8/18 build date and I'm worried about this issue. Just so I know what to look for, I have to hit a slight left bend in the road at speeds of 60+ and also have the engine/steering rack warmed up for at least 45 mins?

mine generally took a fairly aggressive high speed corner. something around 10 o'clock steering wheel angle at 60 plus. it only happened at low speed on me one time.

Well my truck has been at the dealer since march 4th they did the recalls and we went three days back and fourth they kept saying they could not replicate steering issue so I printed the TSB and showed them they finally agreed to replace the rack should be done Friday the 15th lets hope.

Hi Jonsey32,
We are sorry to hear that you're experiencing this. If you would like any additional assistance while your truck is at the dealership, please send us a private message.

I took it back to the dealership this morning - and until this morning, it's been 100% reproducible for me. Of course, this morning was the morning it decided not to repro.

But... I'm wondering if anyone has noticed whether it occurs more often (or maybe only) in 4WD-Auto or 2WD. I've been driving around in 4WD-Auto for the past month because of wet/icy/snow conditions. It's been dry for the past few days now and I finally started driving around in 2WD. So, I wonder if that is related in any way.

Also - for those of you having your steering rack replaced. My understanding is that the steering rack is electronic, rather than mechanical. So I'm wondering how swapping the part out would fix the issue. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the part and there is more to it than that.

Well with mine they believe it was a flat spot inside the steering rack. Once it warmed up it would start to stick. Since being replaced no problems.

I am still trying to get mine fixed. Could they not fix your steering problem?
The typical answer of could not replicate condition. Well, I am not going to be the guinea pig to try to recreate the issue. Vehicle has been at dealership for over 15 days which meets one of the thresholds to pursue Lemon Law here in FL.

OK, have new Case #58267975, and it no longer in Customer Care at FCA. It is now with Factory Resources. They have my Lemon Law letter.
I’m headed that direction as well.

Just got approval from FCA to change out the steering rack. Took a while but getting done next week.

What did you have to do? FCA in Auburn Hills got my lemon law letter and scheduled a factory inspection/repair appointment for April 15 at the dealer. I really want either to fix it once and for all or get me out of the lease so I can just walk. I do not have patience for a back and forth tussle that goes on forever.

For people that have had success in getting the steering rack replaced, can you post how you arranged it with your dealer (and maybe who your dealer was so that other dealers can contact them)? I've tried to reference the fact that many people are reporting the issue and that there have been replacements done to the steering rack that have resolved the problem, but I either get blank looks or generic responses. I've only been able to replicate on demand one of the three times I've been in for it, and the technician did not bother to record that fact.

I have had zero progress working with the dealer or Ram Cares. That is why I filed a complaint with the NHTSA and have been communicating back and forth with them and now have an arbitration hearing in a month. I just can’t believe the fact that it has been so hard to get a resolution to a safety issue. Also, it is hard telling how many other trucks have this issue without even knowing since it takes a longer period of driving to show for most.

I linked my service advisor this thread and send them this tsb

They were able to get the tsb approved by fca even though they initially said it didn't apply to my truck. It took 3 visits but I made it clear I'm not driving it again unless it's a test drive to ensure it's fixed.

You have to get a case number and document what’s going on. I submitted a video of the steering issue while driving that was undeniable. It will take exhausting all options first but it will get done. Work with FCA and keep on them. This is a real serious problem with these trucks so I wasn’t giving up for anything!

This is very serious issue. Someone could get hurt real bad. Can’t believe that the make it so difficult to fix a safety issue?
