Wind noise

Still no fix for the tea kettle crow wind morris code so frustrating come on Ram what is going on? Seems like lots of different noises are being fixed except for the cross wind problem.

I swear that Ram is waiting on the dealers to find a fix versus being proactive.

What other issues have you had before? So far I’ve had 3 issues. No one of which I’ve gotten fixed yet.

I get the wind noise when there is a strong cross wind. If I'm driving on the highway, I can literally pull the top of the so do/door frame in and the noise goes away. Somehow the window frame is getting sucked out when there is a crosswind.

It's very disappointing. I may look at trying to reset the door jam setting but I still think it's ******** that a new vehicle does this.

Hi all,

Please do not hesitate to send us a PM if you work with your dealer for this. We would like to have it documented, and connect you with case specialists who can work alongside your dealer to explore all potential solutions.

I have a theory that I haven't tested but figured I'd put it out there. I know the cause of the noise is because the hvac system lets too much air into the cab. There is a door deep in the top passenger side of the dash that opens to let the hvac system either heat or cool that air, when recirculation is on that door is shut and the hvac system is using air from inside the cab. My theory is that the door up in the dash is letting too much air into the cab and it can't get out of the cab fast enough at higher speeds, so essentially its preasurizing the cab and some of the air is getting out through the front door seals or somewhere around there.

WHAT TO TEST-
When you hear the noise crack the rear sliding glass window maybe half an inch and see what happens. I wouldn't use the side windows because that will cause too much noise. If you have a sunroof you could try venting that as well.

I could be totally wrong but worth a try I guess.

On the highway I get the wind noise on the driver side window. When I push the air circ button the noise switches over to the passenger side window.

So I bought a new 2019 ram 1500 bighorn in January 2020. 4 days later in the shop for A whistling noise that literally sounds like a teapot. It was in there for a month and a half and went as far as engineers from Chrysler telling the dealership what to do and I got it back yesterday and problem was “fixed” till I got on the highway and it’s back just as before... the dealership resealed the windshield. Added installation to the firewall. Replace part of the HVAC system The plastic between the windshield and hood where the windshield wipers are and I still have the whistling. Needless to say it’s going back to the dealership tomorrow.

Car & Driver is doing a long term test with a 2019 Ram 1500. I've reached out to the editors to see if they too are getting the teapot noise. Maybe some help from a major publication will get the fire lit because it doesn't appear that Ram is really looking to address this issue. I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

I only get this noise if it's really windy out, and with crosswind. if it's not windy out all is good. are you guys saying it's all the time regardless of what the wind is doing that day?

I've only heard it while on the highway, at speed, and with a crosswind.

See if they can adjust the door strikers in so the doors seal tighter.

Hello all,

Just got in my vehicle (was at the local dealer for headlamps replacement + wind noise).

Here is what they did for the wind noise:

( I doubt this will fix the issue completely, but, unable to test it today/tomorrow due to heavy storm here in Canada / wind / snow).

Honestly i do not know. I was going to ask, however, the guy that i am dealing with over the phone / txt messages was on the lunch, so, receptionist only gave me the paper work / keys.

I will be asking next time i go in if he has more details / information.

Ask him if it was outside the can underneath the cowl or if it was inside the truck up underneath the dash. Please and thanks

I'm curious to hear the fix as well! Thanks for posting your update - it's truly appreciated.

Just an update ... decided actually to take it for a drive since its very windy here due to storm (no snow at this time).

Took it to the highway, doing 110-130km\h and i did not hear any of that pitching noise i was hearing before.

From time to time when a hard wind kicks / hits the vehicle and the door shake (actually the whole vehicle) you can hear some wind noise, but, not anything close to what i was hearing before (and with a lot less wind)
I think this is normal sound with the size of the vehicle / speed.

I will keep an eye on this and see if this is completely fixed.

Had another trip (120km) , very windy was doing 80-120km/h no issues.

So far i am happy.

I did send a message to my dealership asking if they can provide what exactly was done / where, however, no response yet.

For me:
1) Loud clunk from passenger seat while turning with passenger in vehicle. (fixed by replacing seat frame)
2) Loud squealing from front brakes when high speed and low brake presure ie. slowing down for offramp of freeway (replaced brake pads and came back, just had calipers replaced, so far so good)
3) choo choo sound at freeway speeds in high wind (intermittent, unable to regularly reproduce, not fixed)
4) Wind noise from driver's window (minor, unfixed as of yet)
5) Poor AC performance (unfixed)
