Wind noise

Just got New 2019 Ram Limited and want to get rid of it cause of the noise coming from the back window or behind back passenger seat. Thinking seriously about fighting to get different ordered cause dealer says that's normal noise. At 1st I thought it was the window , now I think the vents in the back of cab are missing flapper parts or something.....any 1 want a brand new ram ?? Or have a solution?
See my earlier reply to you

I had my head tech attempt to move the striker plate in and it doesn't move. He took a hammer and hit it fairly hard and no movement and the body shop manager then confirmed what he had told me.
Yeah, I loosened the bolts and there's no movement. I think you would need to slot the holes.

My rig is at the dealer right now getting hammer..., I mean serviced, on. ;)

Confirmed on mine. Crawl under yours and I bet you can see them.

Thanks! It's cold ice here and wet, so I can't easily do this yet as I don't have a garage. If this is the case, then my dealer's service department basically stretched the truth a bit to tell me that it couldn't be installed. They kept saying that my VIN shows that this part is not supposed to be installed and they said the mounting points are not there so they couldn't install the rubber seal.

Lol! I have a garage, yet due to size, unable to put this beast in it! So outside it stays. I’m sure that the seal is not a cure all but it does help. I am adding some window visors and sound deadening panels in the rear panel of the cab to help with “wind noise”. I am thinking that this “excessive wind noise” could be a byproduct of no tire noise that we have all been accustomed to. And maybe the noise cancellation that is in these trucks need some frequency tweaking to compensate. @RamCares ...hope your are listening.

I had the same road noise, ordered the seal but haven't installed it yet. I did, however, install a Magnaflow cat-back and since then the road noise is no longer an issue. LOL.

Will probably install the seal anyways since I have it.

RamRhode, can you please email the parts diagrams and part numbers again I cant seem to find them on here now and of really like to give me dealer that info u previously posted. My email is [email protected]
Thanks for your help!!!

how do you chchechchecchchechcheck

How do i find out if the flapper or camper is missing in mine? I'm about ready to let this noisy thing go.bought it 1/26 and been in the shop 8 or 9 days dealer says it's normal noises, my wife, kid, and I say otherwise . What do I do?
My Rebel is very quiet and never had noise issues . I noticed that if you look down gap between cab and box while closing rear door, you can see vent flapper make a visual "flutter" as door closes. It happens so quick that all I know is I see a quick motion by vents as door closes and sends rush of air out the vents. Mine has factory installed horizontal seal at bottom of cab/box gap plus the side vertical seals. So if yours acts the same, then your vents must be ok.

Here in NH when is snows I see a line of snow in my driveway under the bed where that seal would go.

I wonder if it's too close to the rear cab vents and could allow an accumulation of snow, leaves or other debris over time and this is why it was deleted?

My dealer said newer trucks no longer have the installation holes for this part. I haven't confirmed this yet.

Doesn't anyone wonder why the mfg has decided to no longer include these on builds? Is it to save money where it is no longer needed, or is it to address a safety concern (i.e. debri getting caught between bed and cab on top of this seal)? Must be a reason, and I want to believe its not to save a few bucks per vehicle.

I haven't seen anyone say why it was removed. People seem to be adding it again and just saying it helps with the road noise from behind the rear seats.

So I added the cab to box bottom seal to my Limited in hopes it would make the whistle go away. However, it seems to have made it worse.
When recirc is off it whistles above 45mph. When recirc is on it whistles below 45mph. Very easy to replicate, does it every time I drive it.

I took it to the dealer for the power steering recall and told them in detail about this annoying whistle.

The tech who test drove the truck said it was the roof rain gutter moldings. I told the service rep that I know it isn't that because I have taped everything on the outside with painters tape and none made any difference. I told them it is something related to airflow through the cab and their response is, well that's strange, we'll replace the roof moldings anyway. :(

Everyone who rides in the truck says, what's that whistle, my reply, I'm driving a very expensive tea kettle.

RAM really needs to figure this out.

Sorry, but the tea kettle comment was funny! Check and see if all the connecting tabs are well seated into their holes and the J channel of the seal is facing down. A PITA to get to, but try using pliers to seat the panel connectors. If that doesn’t work, try the opposite and relieve the compression of the panel connectors a bit. The whistling seems to be generated from just a right amount of puckering of the rubber to the bed rim. My 2c, anyway. I hope you solve it.

Thanks. I'll double check. I installed it with the channel facing down. I used a USB borescope camera attached to my phone to confirm everything looked okay, but won't hurt to look again after driving it.

Hope this is useful to everyone on this forum. I was having the same issue (wind noise) with my 2019 Laramie and my truck was at the dealership for 1 month until they finallyScreenshot_20190304-192001.png figured it out.

I had wind whistle on my passenger door as well as my passenger vents. Dealership had my vehicle for four days and it turned out to be an air leak in the cowl, faulty recirc door and leak in the ac. In addition to the passenger door not been a secure fit. All issues addressed and no issues in my first 200 km since

My dealer told me I don't have the mounting points (holes?) for this seal. My truck was built in October of '18 and a crew cab, 5 ft bed and RamBox options.

Has anyone confirmed that newer trucks still have the mounting holes?

My Limited has a build date of Feb 16, just a wee baby. Put the seal in yesterday, holes were there just as described. It definitely helped, tomorrow I'm putting Michelin Defenders on it. Will report on these here. It's 5' 7" bed with Rambox.
