Why can we not activate a HotSpot Plan

I have a 2019 Laramie, I have had a plan with the WiFi hotspot previously but during Covid didn’t have a need for it so cancelled it. Now I have a need for it again so wanted to give money to AT&T but is says that WiFi Hotspot service isn’t available for your vehicle.

Called AT&T and they say it’s a UConnect Ram problem that affects all Chryslers. I called @RamCares and they act like they know nothing. I see other people on here have it activated.

Anyone know what’s up?

Hi @Dmalonecentral,
We understand the confusion! Sadly, In-car Wi-Fi hotspot service is currently unavailable for certain vehicles/radio models. Please know that we are working with AT&T to resolve the concern as quickly as possible. You will be notified when In-car Wi-Fi hotspot service is available for you to enroll. We appreciate your patience at this time.

Well functionally it works because I can turn it on, connect to it, and get to AT&T’s website to attempt to sign up. So my guess is I am caught in the middle of someone’s contract dispute. Great!

I just tried to reactivate my Wi-Fi hotspot service that I’ve had on and off for 18 months. Nope! AT&T says it’s not available and they’re working with RAM on the issue. They said it’s been an ongoing issue since late 2021. Evidently it didn’t affect me because I had service in March and April of this year. I need to sign up again and it’s a no go. It’s freaking ridiculous that RAM and AT&T and UConnect have so many issues all the time. Pathetic!

@RamCares when will this be fixed?!

Hi Lrpilot,
Sadly at this time we're unable to speculate on when this concern will be resolved. You will, however, be notified once you're able to reactivate your subscription. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Care to elaborate on WHY we can’t sign up? Because it functionally works. I can turn it on, connect to it and get to AT&T’s signup page. I called AT&T and they said it’s a Chrysler problem and affecting all lines of vehicles. So just curious what the issue is.

I went thru THREE weeks of dealing with AT&T to get my hotspot activated on my 22.

As others have reported, you can turn on the hotspot in the truck, connect to it, and access the AT&T website (that is the ONLY site).

But it fails on the last step.

I eventually got forwarded to the Office of the President, and had a dedicated Car Connected Specialist working with me, and they did eventually get the hotspot working (manual activation on their end).

As good as I could understand it, there was a block of IMEI/ICCID numbers that didn't get transmitted properly from FCA to AT&T for hotspot authentication.

I did not have any access to the internal diagnostic screens in UConnect5 to verify information.

HOWEVER, my Connected Services WERE working thru AT&T, for door locks, remote starts, and vehicle health reports. So, this not an internal modem problem.

in my AT&T account, my hotspot still has a phone number, but I did not renew after the trial (my phone has 20GB of hotspot). The AT&T rep stated If I didn't renew within 3 months that the account would be dropped, and the vehicles phone number for the hotspot would be lost.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, on a new vehicle that has never went thru a new hotspot activation thru AT&T, you might be screwed for now (since there is an obvious problem).

If you let the hotspot lapse more than 3 months without an active subscription, you may fall into the same problems, since this would probably require a "new" activation (since the info was dropped out of the system).

I guess I was glad I had a dedicated person @ AT&T working with me. They were stumped at first, but it was submitted to engineering/network ops for troubleshooting.

The regular CSR reps on the AT&T Car Connected Side are clueless.

It will NOT do you any good to call UCONNECT. Its all on AT&T.

Appears I can reactivate, but no guarantee that might not fail now.

I found reference to Star Case S2208000038 in the AT&T forums. Not sure how to access that case....

Thanks for posting the STAR case details. That looks like a totally different issue with the wifi.

The current wifi issue deals with AT&T concerning activation/reactivation.

All we know at this time is that it is due to an ongoing concern of the WIFI hotspot producing a "no internet connection" error message in Panasonic/Uconnect 4 radios. Harman/Uconnect 5 radios should not be affected by this. Sadly, this is all the information we have been provided by AT&T, and their team is best equipped to answer any further questions you may have. They can be reached at 866-595-1330, and we'd recommend requesting a Tier 2 escalation.

Well it seems insane to me that AT&T is saying it’s a Ram problem and Ram is saying it’s an AT&T problem and the regular customer that just wants to activate a feature on their truck is stuck in the middle of it. Seems an easy fix would just be to provide customers who want to sign up a cheap usb mobile powered hotspot to put in the middle console.

You will NEVER EVER be able to speak to a TIER 2 tech rep. You will be sent in an endless loop talking to who ever answers the phone in the Phillipines.

The only way you will ever get in contact with TIER 2 tech support is to complain to the BBB, and get your case transferred to the Office of the President. They will THEN hook you up with someone.

Harmon/Uconnect 5 Radios are still affected by the activation issues.

Unfortunately, there is no standalone "car connected plan". Several years there was. It was called a MOBLEY device, but it was quickly axed. I had one for years, and finally cancelled it because AT&T was throttling the devices on purpose. AT&T become the giant in car connected in vehicle, so that is another reason standalone car connected plans were axed.

For those of you are having ACTIVATION issues (not disconnects), you can email this address.

DO NOT expect a quick response, however, if you don't already have an established case.

This department is the one that helped me with ACTIVATION ISSUES only.

Depends on what issue you are referring to.

Continual disconnects (which FCA said pulling the radio fuse fixed the problem in the mean time......
OR
Not being able to activate a hotspot (whether it be a new vehicle, or a reactivation of an old account)

FCA told me that ALL HOTSPOT ISSUES LIE WITH AT&T. Unfortuately, AT&T told me that some of the Vin#'s, IMEI's and ICCID's were not transmitted to AT&T properly to their databases. Hence, some Vin #'s were't found, so FCA is to blame there.

Blame game gets old.

My issue is I am unable to activate. I am not totally sure I buy the “some VIN’s, etc.. we’re not transferred excuse as I had a subscription pre-Covid.

My case was specifically referring to activation of a NEW vehicle account.

I am just relaying the information saga I went thru. You can email AT&T and start you own case, and believe what you want.

I’m not saying I don’t believe you. I certainly believe someone would say that at AT&T. I’m just saying I have had it activated before so I think AT&T would have some record of it but I also am not able to activate new service (again).
