Continuing with my not-perfect-but-good-enough projects, I made a "kitchen counter" of sorts for my Kufu drawer system. It's somewhat inspired by
this much nicer build, but simplified to match my utter lack of wood working skills.
Right now, it just gives me some prep space and a "sink".
I did not do a great job; this was the first time I've ever used a jigsaw or a router outside of maybe high school shop class, and it shows. My staining and sealing job also have a lot of room for improvement. I may redo this one day, but it's functional, and that's what I wanted.
I didn't do a coffee table lift like the linked project. Instead, I just cut a half-circle hole in the end of the "counter", and I can lift that up to store kitchen stuff (utensils, stove, etc.) underneath. Granted, that hole (and the cutout for the drawer's battery pack in the rear left corner) will allow water in while using the sink, so we'll see how well this design works out.
A 5'x5'x3/8" sheet of baltic birch plywood cost me all of $20, and I have some leftover, that if I decide to redo this project one day, all I lost was some time.
Edit: I should note that there's a cover on the "sink", which is a actually a
catering pan, so if you thought, that looks way too shallow to be useful as a sink, now you know why. It's still relatively shallow at 2.8", but better than it looks!
