Upfitter Switches

On their site, I’m only seeing the wiring/relay kit without buttons for the 5th gens, which leaves you in the exact same scenario as everyone else with the 1500 DT- figuring out how to enable the switches once you install them. Do you have a direct link to the kit you bought?

hey yall GO TO 4wheelelectronics.com THEY JUST CAME OUT WITH THE KIT THIS WEEK.... I just ordered mine this week.
My reply to you yesterday. Can you post a direct link to the kit you bought?

Jimmy07 does “Commercial Mode” mean anything to you?

On the HD trucks, the settings for the switches show up in the EVIC commercial settings menu, not the radio. The commercial settings menu is created when setting CustSetMenu switch options in AlfaOBD. Historically (on the 4th gens), sometimes they will also show up in the radio, but they would never work. Everything I’m reading in the manuals for the TRX is explaining that the settings are accessed in the radio.

I wonder if these guys know something? I don’t see anything in the product description stating 1500 but maybe they know some other settings to change? I’ll go out in a bit and check Alfa.

They’ve been around for a while. They just build the harnesses and source the factory parts for their kits, and leave it up to the customer to enable anything that needs to. The fact that they mention the diesel trucks already have the aux fuse box means they are referring to “5th gen” HD rams.
I’ll have to start looking for someone with a TRX with aux switches and AlfaOBD, and see if I can get the backup file (not the system ID log). Then I’ll be able restore a DT BCM on the bench with it, change all the settings back to original, create a new backup file, and see if any numbers are different.

So I tried something. When I changed ASBM Present to Yes and switch option 3-6, Tazer doesn’t show the aux enable option in their settings menu. When I set those two settings back to default, the Tazer aux enable option reappears. When I enable aux in Tazer I can get the aux menu to show up on the radio. It is only 4 switches on the radio but it is doing something to get the menu to appear. Should I save the log and compare it with my original and see what changed? Trying to see what Tazer is doing to enable the menu on the radio.

Use tazer to revert back to normal (no aux switches). Use AlfaOBD to pull a system ID log. Then use tazer to re-enable the aux switches like you have pictured. Use AlfaOBD to pull another system ID log, then run the before and after logs through WinMerge, and it will highlight whatever settings tazer changed.

Looks like tazer is switching these two:

ASBM Present: Yes
Auxiliary Switches CSM Present: Switch 1 - 4 option

I can confirm this works by disabling tazer, switching these two in Alfa and getting the menu to appear. I didn't try 2-5 but switching to 3-6 makes the menu disappear.

Jimmy07 TravisH i have been reading and rereading this thread a couple times......what if the the relay panel from 4wheelelec provides enough resistance to have the computer believe everything it needs to operate that system is there then allows the "app" to populate? id be willing to cough up a few $$ for one of you to purchase the panel

Jimmy07 - Do you know the part number for the connector & pins for the Aux switch connector? I ordered the aux switch bank and would like to have the pins for when it arrives. Also, do you have the pinout handy? I think I've seen it here somewhere, but am too lazy to look for it....

Thanks!

There’s the pin out and a picture of the “jumper harness” that I created. I don’t have the part numbers right now, but I can post them once I locate my order form, from when I ordered them.

Here’s a copy of my order form from the company that I used to get the needed connectors and pins.

I just tried these settings on my 2019 Ram Rebel with no success. I used Alfa and changed the following:

1) ASBM Present: yes
2) Auxiliary Switches CSM Present: Switch 1-4

then cycled the ignition from run to off several times (4-5) and no illumination from the light on the aux switches and no aux tab in the settings menu of the 12” display. TravisH how long did it take to appear in your truck and can you confirm that you got it working with Alfa and not by using the Tazer? Thanks

New update.

The good news: After following the steps that TravisH posted and leaving my truck parked overnight the aux switch option now shows available in the settings menu via the radio.

The bad news: I can not make any selections for the switches (momentary, latching, battery or ignition, last state status yes/no).
‘When I push the aux buttons, the light on the button does not come on.

It was asked somewhere if maybe the switch needed to see a ”load” in order to ”wake” the switch. I wired up a relay for negative trigger and connected a led light. It didn’t work.

Amyone else have any ideas?

These are the same findings I’ve stated in my previous replies and the farthest we’ve gotten so far.

Silly question, do all the none aux button still work as they should? If so, worst case scenario would be to pop the unit open and hijack the buttons/indicators with an external controller. Of coarse via proper AlfaODB would be best, but if could be done decoupled from the truck.
I'd be willing to buy a unit to pop open, so long as it is confirmed that all the non AUX buttons still work as they should.

Yes they do. I confirmed that in previous replies.

Good to know. I'll wait a bit to see how you and jimmy progress. But if no progress is made, I'll buy one and make a hijack device for it.
