Hey Guys,

I just picked up a new 2019 Ram Laramie Sport Crew Cab w/new Tailgate, Customer Preferred package and Level 2 for all the audio and safety at 64K... Now, let me preface this by saying I am a Microsoft Engineer so technology is supposed to be my forte.. However, I haven't seen this many bugs in a vehicle technology in a long time that neither the Dealership, Uconnect, or SiriusXM Guardian can comprehend. So please read through and add to the list so I can escalate this to FCA since I can find someone on the inside through business relationships.. Picked up my Truck Friday, went through everything at the dealership. Everything worked. Saturday rolls around and BAM. Nothing works.
-Before I get into the nitty gritty, the Truck is gorgous from the inside out. FCA DID A GREAT JOB Designing. Just the software sucks.

Equipment
iPhone XS Max
2019 Ram Laramie Sport Crew Cab

1) NAV is completely lost. What is even worse is if you use Carplay (Apple) It still tries to use the Trucks GPS not the phones which makes it still inaccurate.
2) SiriusXM Guardian somehow un-activated and now will not re-activate under any circumstances. The issue you are going to run into is that they will resend a signal which you can do from the Mopar site. This works if you lose a signal and it is still activated. If it is not activated, then it is grayed out which means you can't even use it.
3) The Voice recognition is completely useless. Especially with the NAV out it makes it even worse.
4) The HK 19 speakers.. I mean its good.. is it 2K good? Nope.
5) The backup camera is hit or miss depending on your combination of how you use it. If you hit the back up camera while doing something else the screen goes black. I don't remember the exact combo but I was able to reproduce it multiple times and had to hit the power button a few times to get the screen to come back up.
6) The split screen doesn't function correctly. It still can't differentiate b/t the top and bottom all the time.
7) The A/C.. Now I have read some of the threads and I think they are on to something. I don't know if it is a different type of refrigerant or not but I have had a 2016 dodge ram and a 2013 ram. (Yes, I know, I have a problem with new trucks) Anyways, it blows. And not in a good way.
8) S.O.S Button does not work, this is due to the rest of the system not working. It uses an embedded SIM similar to your phone/smart watch. I believe this is causing the software glitch on this.
9) Bluetooth and calling seems to cut in and out. I have had calls drop a few times already which is also strange.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Soft Reset
- Using the steering wheel on both ACC and RUN. This did not fix any issues. I believe it actually made it worse as now my screen will go black.
-Disconnect Battery and let it reset... Works for a computer right?? Nope. Software is still having issues.

GPS Re-Calibrate
-I was told to drive in 5 circles counter clockwise under 15mph. Turn the engine off. Open the door for 30 seconds and it would re-calibrate... Nope. Just made me dizzy.

HARD RESET
DOES THIS EVEN EXIST??? In the 8.4 Uconnect, you could download and update all you want. You could perform a factory reset etc. You can get into dealermode and delete your personal data.. Cool Bro.

I have spent the last two days along with being at the dealership for them to open a star case and tell me that they have seen a few issues.. Now, I am pretty good at troubleshooting and ruling out variables so if you have a truck that isn't having any of these issues please speak up so we can see what software rev you are on along with date MFG>

- Long story short, This truck is brand new which means anyone who has any previous versions is most likely having the same/similar issues. I believe this has to do with the SIM LTE as it is activating but now being processed incorrectly in the Uconnect software which is not being handled. FCA apparently have had quite a few TSB's with this model already and that is why I waited hoping it would all be demo'd out. I was wrong.. But lets get some pressure going to get this hammered as this is a great truck. I just don't understand why there isn't a Project Manager handling the relationship between FCA, Uconnect and Sirius. When you sell a package of Technology for an additional 5-7K it better damn work. Please leave any thoughts as I am about to return it.

UPDATE:
Took the Truck back to the dealership after having multiple conversations with Uconnect and them assigning me a Case Manager. They went through and said they will have to order a new 12" radio for it. I was back there in the shop working with the tech after they found out about my background. Even using the USB Stick, you CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT Factory reset or reload the Uconnect software. If the unit has 28.1 on it and it is not working, you cannot re-install. Not even Over the air. So that sucked. After we went through 3-4 hours of Diagnostics with the Witech, it still didn't work. So they ordered a new radio, then I get a call from Uconnect. Uconnect told me the radio they ordered wasn't new and it was a refurb.... Uconnect said they are trying to get an OEM (New) one expedited and sent to the dealer. The case manager also told me that they are aware of the NAV issue on the units but they do not know which, how, or what. In other words, if you have NAV units, you either need a new truck or a new radio to fix it. They did not have any way of tracking them either. So I told them to find a new truck and I am not going to be their experiment on figuring this out as I have been managing this the whole time. We will see what happens.

I can definitely understand your frustration as I myself am experiencing what seems to be a technical default with the truck's electrical system and suspension. I have only had this truck for 9 months and its about to be my third time taking or back to the dealership, and 2xs it had to be towed. The truck has completely shut-down not sure about hard/soft reboot of any kind of troubleshooting that I can perform.

I keep telling myself its a new vehicle and the bugs will be fixed eventually but not at the point of me spending time from work or being put in a position to have to get a rental because my brand new Ram 1500 Laramie Limited is not living up to all the hype its supposed to have been. Yeah the truck looks beautiful inside and out...but i this point its not performing at the level of my satisfaction consistently. I don't want to feel like every time i exit my vehicle will it start the next time i'm ready to start it up again.

Please assist where you can, or tell me what i need to do....I have reported these issues to the main Ram Cust service number and been assigned a case number, to be referred to and was told i would hear from Ram within 24 hours.

...Tomorrow I have to have the vehicle towed to the dealership , don't want to try and jump start it...because that would just cover up the issue if it did start up...

Love the truck but hate the frustration of not knowing ....did i get the best bang for my $$$$$

Hey, guys, I have a new 3500 SRW Laramie with the 12" uConnect display and cannot, for the life of me, get the Pojection Manager to work... I have a Note 9 and I want to project it's screen to the truck's screen.. Thanks in advance!

@Sjleo1288 Well in order to figure this all out we need to start eliminating variables with each of the trucks. Software Revisions/Additions/MFG Date etc. Do you have any issues with any of the above that I described? You have a Limited so that mofo is loaded. Mine is fully loaded also after all the packages. It seems like most of the issues we are having revolve around the 12" screen due to the newer software for more features. Do you have any of the issues above? GPS isn't showing the correct location, SOS or Assist not working? Can you go into the dealer menu and see what version of software you are on? See my image to see what you need to look at for the most updated revision. There is a great TSB Sticky you can search for also that may help you out.

@Wayniac85 Have you tried a different phone by chance first? I only use apple but I know some other people are having issues with Andoid like the One Plus 6T. Try another android phone by chance to see if it is the phone or Uconnect. A lot of times you have to allow permissions on those phones in order for it to work with the Uconnect software. Apple Carplay comes right up, but it is buggy when using navigation. Once connected, it piggy backs off the Truck NAV and not the phone. Since my Truck thinks its 75 Miles north of me in BFE, it always thinks its an hour drive to a 10min destination.

There was another occurrence of my 12" Display dropping in/out blinking and i call the Ram Car Care and worked with a technician for about 20 minutes or more to resolve that issue...it was not syncing up with the Blue-Tooth on my Samsung Note 8 or my wife's Google Pixel 3...Finally it corrected itself nothing that she told me worked...I know a little more about technical trouble shooting myself, especially audio...and another occurrence my side view mirrors would not return back to normal after backing up and driving forward one or both would stay in the reverse position...and i had to make manual adjustments. That cleared up by itself...did nothing to correct it. Issue #3 Rear driver window sticks motor slows down when closing the window half-way to top...slowly closes....Before this happened ...this morning I was noticing a little slip when i would stop sort of sounds like a bump as someone hit the rear end real softly...and sometimes the truck will operate in the lowest suspension setting "entry level" for a long time before reaching the aerodynamic level for driving normally...., I can't check the display at all right now, but I will check it as soon as we figure out WHY, WHAT and HOW this keeps happening.

Appreciate the Information...lets keep in touch, you have been very resourceful.

Yeah of course man! Thanks for the info. I don't have the air suspension on mine as I am going to do the Mopar lift 2" and put 35" tires on it if this all works out. But there may be some other posts on here that others have seen issues with theirs. But yes, I have spoken with multiple people over the past two days and no one seems to know what is going on with the Uconnect System. I did quite a bit today and have noticed some odds and ends each time I drive it. Let me know if you notice any similarities with your Uconnect as it doesn't seem like I am the only one.

Oh yeah, the Navigation....I would say hit and miss, most times it says can't locate or searching off-line no results. The amazing thing is when i use U-car connected USB to Phone I have no problem of using the Google Maps and finding directions. Yes the split Screen doesn't know how to differentiate the top card from the bottom...I end up using the Home button most of the time...and the Favorites , what an unfriendly user feature...It doesn't keep any information about my NBA Teams just scores and most of the time...i can only use the feature when i am idling not in drive mode..., I think Ram should have set up a webinar to explain the newest technology or at least presented videos of all its features in detail. The best thing about the technology in does give me Storm Weather information to the exact time and location of the storm and winds.

If you go to the Mopar site it has videos and manuals you can download so you can see all the features/functionality of the system. Try the links below and see if that helps out any.

With so many problems, it seems you would be better off having the dealer do a complete wipe and reload on the software. My system seems to work flawlessly. If after that it doesn’t work properly, then you may be dealing with a hardware issue. Seems like quickest way to solution. Also make sure your Sirrus/Xm account is activated, don’t take the dealership’s word.

Happy to say that I have none of these issues, not a one. With that said, while I hate it has happened to you I am thankful you are trying hard to get these things corrected.

The dealer couldn't figure out how to do a factory reset. As far as SiriusXM, it was activated when I left. Then somehow became unactivated and now it won't re-activate. You can't send a new signal to it because you can't select SiriusXM until you activate. It won't activate so here I am seeing if anyone else is having these issues.

I am also frustrated. I have issues with the travel link and the weather map not working. No help as Sirius blames Uconnect and Uconnect blames Sirius. I hate to say it, but as beautiful as these trucks are, there are too many ongoing issues.

Beware of the dealership having no clue... I went in on July 3 for an oil change and asked them to check for the tsb and any software update for my 12” due to some of the well known issues. They completely bricked it. At first they claimed they talked to a FCA engineer and a new unit was recommended and would be there in 2 days. As of 10 min ago, they said new eta for a replacement unit is now July 24. My recommendation would be to live with small bugs. Really sorry I even asked them to check for updates. Have been canceling plans with our RV each weekend due to no truck.

Well ****. Maybe I should return it. I have another appointment with them tomorrow morning because they couldn’t even do a diagnostic yesterday due to issues with Star and what ever they use in the service department because it wasn’t communicating. We will see what comes out of it tomorrow as I just got the windows tinted and don’t wanna be out the investment.

Mine has been sketchy, but not nearly to the extent all yours have. I'll get some versions and (hopefully) edit them into this post after work. I've got a Limited, build-to-order, delivered June 6th, so it should be a radio with the newest software. Here's what I've seen -

Occasionally if you hit the camera button while driving, it will go entirely black when returning to 'regular' driving mode. Once in a while this happens when going reverse->forward. "Power off" and back "on" will bring it back.
Absolutely will not hold SiriusXM presets any more. It used to work fine, but now they are gone every restart.
Occasionally it thinks that AndroidAuto needs to re-request access to contacts. I think it's losing the pairing to the phone and "resetting" because...
I've plugged in to the cable and the phone has not paired.
While in a state park w/lots of trees and hills, could not detect a location, wouldn't show where we were in the park. When we got to an open area it showed me as still at my house, ~60 miles away, so it was bunged up the whole time. Pretty sure I was nav'ing fine on my phone but brought it up on the screen to get a better view and both the UConnect and Android Auto were wrong now, so I can see the phone was suddenly a slave to the vehicle nav. More interesting, there were multiple vehicle restarts between my house and the park, it sat at work all day and I didn't go home first before going out of town.
There's likely some other stuff, just can't remember them all.

@pgienger, Sounds like you are having very similar issues also as well. NAV seems to be the biggest concern right now as it is creating most of the issues since a lot of it piggy backs off of it.

Laramie 12" NAV here. Came with the updated Uconnect version. Everything works flawless. Someone else mentioned this, but don't discount the notion that the problem is actually your specific dealer knowing squat about how to actually fix your problems. Hope it all gets sorted out quickly for you!
