Transmission falling out of Drive on downshift, blinking, displaying "shift to P" and back

Once again, unable to find a code or repeat the problem. Amazing that this happens everyday for me, but somehow it never repeats for them. Video evidence apparently is not enough. I have requested the diagnostic reports of what was run and have inquired about a monitoring device be put on the truck so that when it does happen again, and we all know it will, that they can then have the necessary evidence. It is the typical deny deny deny run around (no problem that we are aware of). Wait until your power train expires. I received a low ball offer for my truck as others have. All a tactic to get you to go away. And continue to get the calls about extended warranty coverage. They either want you to pay up or go away. At this point, I don't think they have any type of fix for this. Even if they do, it is probably cost prohibitive that they just deny that there is even a problem.
I just want my truck to work, as I purchased it, and not have to get in accident for something to be done.
I will get off my soap box now

Well that is super crappy! I had (maybe still have) the capricious drop into neutral while driving. I cleaned my TB and it's been almost two months with no neutral drop gremlins, it used to happen a couple times a week. This has also not worked for other folks. What mileage did it start on yours?

It appears that dealerships have not been able to fix the transmission throwing itself into neutral gremlin. There must be lots of trucks where this does not happen, what is different about them? Maybe it's time for folks to start making vehicle safety reports to the National Highway Transportation System? Link below.

Hey everyone,

We just wanted to bring to everyone's attention that there are two TSBs out: 08-093-22 for 2022 models and 18-091-22 is for 2021 models.
We would also like to look into this for our 2019 owners, so if you own a 2019 and are experiencing this issue, please send us a direct message!

@RamCares - Happening on my 2020, need to get it to the shop asap as its happening more and more... is there a TSB for the 2020's?

it’s been awhile since I’ve read through this. See ‘RamCares’ chiming in. Sorry, but seems like a joke to me. Ram clearing won’t care until someone gets killed or seriously injured and even then good luck proving this is the cause as zero code record. Even the buy back is a joke. Like others have said, they low ball you to go away. They won’t take any financial responsibility for there trucks without being sued or a court order. It’s how these big companies get away with this stuff. Have a 2019 Rebel. Been happening since 20k miles or so. Now have over 50k. No warranty now = out of pocket fix unless a safety recall comes out. Haha, like that will happen. Last 4 vehicles have been Dodge/ram. 2012 charger rt, 2013 Durango rt, 2008 Dakota Laramie and now 2019 Rebel. Really thinking of switching makers as Chrysler recently could give two sits about this neutral drop issue. Just hope no one actually gets hurt before the fix it. I’ll keep checking for solid solutions, but don’t expect anything from this company anymore. Sorry to say. Good luck fellow Ram owners.

Checking in with my neutral-drop support group, I now have 69 days with no neutral-drops after cleaning my TB. I also recently installed an OCC to hopefully prevent the frequency of cleaning the TB. The TB is held in place by screws with real coarse threads, (think wood screw threads), that thread into the plastic intake manifold, in my experience, metal fasteners into plastic tend to strip threads with frequent removal.

Hope everyone is safe and have not had any accidents due to the transmission throwing itself into neutral while driving.

I had a thread I started in Feb 21 where this happened to me one time, after extreme cold weather had drained my battery the day prior and recharged. The dealer tested the battery with the full test and it was bad. The answer I got was if there is a battery issue this can occur, which I said to my dealer is an incredible safety issue still. A battery going bad shouldn't shift you to neutral at 15 mph randomly and force you to stop before going back to drive.

In any event, I have been much luckier than the rest of this thread thus far, as the issue hasn't happened again. But I will be monitoring this thread for sure. FCA has a known issue here.

Hey everyone!

If you're still looking for some help with this with your 2019, we recommend taking your vehicle to your dealer and bringing them Star Case S2118000013. This should provide your dealer with some assistance to fix this issue for you!

I have a local dealer... but from what is being said on with this post, I am afraid to throwing thousands of dollars in parts at something that no one has proven will fix the issue. Specially since I am passed my warranty and the "lifetime powertrain" warranty my dealer gave me probably won't cover it.

I have a 2019 bighorn also that had issue last winter. Literally did it every other day for 2 months. Really it seemed when it was cold cold out. Brought it to dealer and u know how that works they said there is no check engine light on so we don’t know what to look for. I showed them this forum and they still blew me off. But just try and clean your throttle body cause I read about that in this forum snd knock on wood that worked for me because it hadn’t slipped out of drive upon coming to a stop in at least 9 months now. I bought can of carb cleaner auto zone (there brand cheapest and worked) I removed where air filter clamp to and sprayed where air filter goes into and I wiped it out and to be honest lot of black stuff out. I think it is carbon that was built up. Even do it twice so you get it really clean. That’s it that’s all I did. When u start it it is gonna run like sh- t but just let it run because it had to burn out carb spray. Try that and let me know. It’s somewhere to start. Dealership will do absolutely nothing for you because slipping out drive, it does not trigger a code.

Thanks for letting us know. If you do decide to take it to a dealer, we can assist with part expedition, technical assistance, and sometimes goodwill/cost assistance. We can always be reached via direct messaging.

Hello everyone! I now have 96 days with no drops into neutral after cleaning my TB. It has been driven in 40degF to 95degF temperatures. Hope everyone that hasn't had this problem resolved is safe out there.

That’s crazy. Glad it’s working out!

I went to another dealership because the first lost my trust in the handling of the battery. They diagnosed the issue as a faulty driver door latch. I expressed a good deal of skepticism over the phone but did accept the repair as powertrain warranty would not cover that (~$500). Hopefully this resolves the issue. Dropping this here to let anyone else know of a potential resolution. Picking it up today. Fingers crossed
I'm having same issue with my 2019, did the door latch fix it??

So, here's the quick story:
  1. I got the run around from my dealer
  2. I got the runaround from RAM Customer Service
  3. Assigned me to a Case Manager
  4. I got the run around from my Case Manager
  5. Went on LinkedIn and contacted the CEO, COO, EVP, President of MOPAR explaining my extreme displeasure
  6. Got a call a few hours later from Mike and received a full apology
  7. Part was overnighted to my dealer
  8. Dealer took care of the issue (no apology from my dealer)
  9. RAM Customer Service's Case Manager called me back to apologize
  10. Mike offered me a 4 year FREE Synthetic Oil Change and Tire Rotation Package that can be used at any RAM dealer coast to coast for my troubles
Yes, I would say he was very useful...if he's still there;)
Hi, I'm having the same issue tasting today, 2019 ram 1500 5.7 2 wheel drive. What was the part they had to exchange?

Greetings,
Recently there was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that appears to address concerns similar to the symptoms that some of you are having with your vehicle. To ensure this TSB applies, we would like to get you into the dealer to have a qualified technician review the details of the TSB and specifics of your vehicle. Once reviewed, the technician can then perform the repair procedure that best matches the symptoms and diagnosis of your vehicle. The TSB number is 08-093-220 and it's only for 2022 Ram 1500. We expect that a 2021 model year TSB will be out at a later date.

I have a 2019 RAM 1500 5.7, started doing this today....when will there be a update for a 2019? THIS IS SO DANGEROUS!!!!!

Having same issue here, 2019

This should be a recall, not just a TSB. How many people have to be injured/killed before it’s turned into a recall? Not just being snarky, I really would like to know what the requirements are for a recall to be issued.
