Tire Options for 22' Limited Wheels with No Lift/Level

These are my next set of tires - currently running the 285 continentals, nothing to complain about, great gas mileage and handle well in wet and snowy conditions. I drive between western Washington 🤮 and MT - been in some snowy conditions without issue. That all said, I prefer the look of the AT3 for sure, bumping to the 305’s. 👍

I have the Falken Wildpeak AT3's in stock size and love them. But wish I got 305/45/22 for that little bit more width which the Falken's don't come in, so will probably look at the Toyo's next.
 
Hey all, I just replaced the stock tires with 285/50 Recon Grapplers. I was looking for an E rated tire with more off road capability but wasn’t necessarily trying to go bigger (though am glad it fills in the wheel wells at least a little more!) also I originally planned to get the G2’s but looks like Nitto isn’t making them in 285/50 (and a couple of other sizes) anymore. I did get a little rubbing when turning, probably the liners just haven’t taken the time to check / fix.

Only drove it home but first impression is interesting , I think I feel small bumps / roughness a tiny bit more but bigger bumps are better cushioned. It is an AT so I can hear it from inside the truck at lower speeds but that’s with no radio on / kids arguing / wife telling me to slow down.

I’ll be taking a road trip to OR next month and will share how they do!

Those look great, keep us posted on the drive quality, any snow handling and noise level, I could see that being an issue for my wife/family too. We do long road trips and the Continentals are pretty quiet from my perspective.

I have 305/45/22 Recon Grapplers and so far I like them. They do have more road noise over 50mph than I expected, but with the radio up a bit it’s not bad at all. It could be that since they’re wider, more rubber is touching the road so there is more noise. I’m not sure. I’ve never had an AT tire and I don’t think it’s anything like a MT would be.

Rain performance seems fine, I haven’t tested in much snow, but the bit I have they did well.
 
I've had the Recon Grapplers (305/45/22) for about 5,000 miles and I've had to road force balance them 3 times. Road noise is not bad at highway speeds, but noticable at slower speeds. I'm debating switching them out for Toyo OC AT3s. It could be that I got some bad tires, only time will tell.

Interesting, I don’t think mine are bad at low speeds, but noisier at higher speeds. Mine were also out of balance, but I’m pretty sure some weights fell off, as another tire shop I took it to correct made it a point to say it was quite a bit off and no way another shop balanced it to that spec.

We finally have Discount Tire shops in our area with more coming. There’s one at 55 & Lindbergh. Check with Richard if you need anything in the future - dude is awesome.

Now I have 285/45 Ironman imove gen2, came with the truck. Seems they are too harsh for me. I need more comfortable tires. I mostly drive (95%) on pawed roads.
I don't want to change the rims, they look great. So I'm choosing between Michelin Defender 305/45/22 and Nitto NT420V 305/50/22. The price of both is almost the same.
I tend to Nitto because they have a bigger sidewall, but I've read many controversial reviews about( e.g. become nosy after some mileage, hard to balance, ...).
From the other side Michelin is one of the best tires, they have a lot of good reviews and despite on their sidewall side they could be as comfortable as other tires with a bigger sidewall. I would definitely buy Michelin if they had 305/50 size.

What do you say guys? Has anybody used both of them? Maybe there are other unobvious options?

Haven’t looked into those tires but in my research the 45 to 50’s also change from an XL to LT. Thats a big change and may not be what you’re looking for with mostly highway driving.

I am getting 305/45/22 Toyo OC ATIII‘s tomorrow. Selling my 285/45/22 Continentals - I think this will be a better ride and not jump me into the LT’s.

edit: the Nitto do jump to LT….missed that in my first read through.
 
made the purchase and got the 305/45/22 toyo OC ATIII’s installed. A little bigger (of course) but not significant. Heard a rub in normal height backing up and locked to left, will make some slight mods this weekend to fix. A tad louder than my Continental AT’s, not bad but I can hear the difference but in no way too loud. Now what I’m irked about is they supposedly aligned them but my steering wheel is just ever so slightly off center, not crazy but I can tell. Now when I drive 10 hours to Montana I’m going to look at it and just stew….I will probably take it back in and have them look at it again, just frustrating.

Update: Took it back to dealer to "fix" alignment, still not fixed and walked away with a small door ding in the passenger door for my troubles.

MPG's appear to have suffered about 1 - 1.5 mpg's - I'm noticing at 70mph I can't get the average the 285/45 continentals did. It's not horrible, but noticeably less. That said, I am extremely pleased with the appearance of the new tires, the more aggressive look just fits the truck and would do it again.

Live in the south and the truck won't see any offroad just like the at3 look.

I went with the Defenders on 20" wheels & it's a very comfortable riding combo. They're for sale also since I'm trading the truck in. A lot more photos in the sale ad here on the forum if you'd like to see more angles.

You getting another Ram?

We already have a 2020 Ram Laramie that we use so I'm trading mine in for an Integra Type S to hit the track. I plan on getting another Ram in 2-3 years maybe. Part of this is we can share the truck for duty use, but we both have other fun vehicles that we use more often. He just picked up a 78' Vette & I'm selling my built Jeep to get more heavily back into racing with a manual transmission before they're obsolete. The powertrain platform of the Type S is a fraction of the cost of more higher end vehicles & can keep up with them on the circuit, ie Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.

My father in law said he doesn't care to have the Vossen's on his truck...for free!! I was wanting to keep them until I get another Ram but also don't want them laying around our shop.

I took the family to Montana for Easter and a quick trip to Yellowstone (Park was closed, still nice there). I have to say, absolutely loved the ride quality and road noise was not an issue (wife approved). Someone mentioned this before, but it feels like it's stuck to the road more than before. I assume this is related to the wider tire. We did over 1k miles on the trip and ran into typical April Montana weather - Sunshine and 70's to 30's and blizzard snow, rolled through the snow very well.

No regrets whatsoever - Good luck on your decision!
