Thoughts on Cold Air Intakes?

I do car shows, my Vararam gets more attention than the RamAir. Classic Mopar guys appreciate the orange lid and look vs a plastic cover over the engine

Is yours a show truck? I can see how doing things to impress others might be important on a show car/truck, but my daily driver only needs to impress me. Others need not apply. I like the classic Mopar look on a classic Mopar. I'm not saying the Vararam looks bad in any way. But to me it looks a little unfinished. The Ram intake really ads a finishing touch IMHO. To each his own.

It's my daily driver, but I take care of it and win trophies at car shows as well. There is zero reason one can't do both. I also take it to the drag strip and race it.

I went from this in June last yearPXL_20220611_192626252.jpgPXL_20220611_210435815.jpg

To winning a car show in August

Honestly, if you don't care about looks, or showing off, there is no need to buy the RamAir

Honestly, it's a huge jump from show car to not caring about looks. Never said I don't car about looks, just that I'm the only one I need to impress. If you feel the need to impress others than that's your choice. I'm not judging you for that. Honestly, I'm more impressed with the pics of the mud covered truck than I am with the pic of the one from the car show.

I was just showing that I use my truck and don't baby it, many people think they can only enter car shows if they have a garage queen if they want a chance to win anything. All my mods are for me, having others like my choices just gives a good feeling. But wouldn't change what I have done because someone else doesn't like it. The Vararam draws attention, especially with the orange lid. And that's what I was going for. And definitely isn't a "cheap knockoff" in looks or feel. The price of the RamAir is a deterrent for me, and many others. I do like the looks, but it's just a different look. Plus it wasn't available when I got my Vararam

That's fair. And, full discolsure, there is one other person who needs to be impressed with our vehicles. But she sleeps with me so I figured it was implied. ;)

My wife doesn't understand my obsession, and doesn't care what I do to the vehicles as long as it's not a loud exhaust with bad drone, and the bills get paid. She likes my Borla ATAK because it's not that loud in the cab. The exhaust I had in my 2005 Magnum R/T I sold to by the truck had bad drone. Especially cruising at any speed over 70mph. The kids hated riding in the back.

Vararam has been around for a long time. They are popular in the 4th gens. I'd say at least 10 years if not longer. it doesn't create any issues.

As far as the vent for valve cover, it's a filter that does exactly the same thing as connecting to airbox behind the air filter. All you need is filtered fresh air. Only reason it's connected to air tube from factory, and by Mopar on RamAir is for emissions reasons. Can't have the crankcase venting to fresh air if you want to keep EPA happy. So calling how the ramAir box connects a "real" solution just shows you don't understand how the PCV system works.

No need to plug the old air horn to factory airbox. That's just an extra part that adds cost.

Radiator cover, it's not that difficult to just trim your factory one for the Vararam. They provide instructions, and you have a little freedom to trim it as you like. I chose to keep the RAM lettering in mine. Varam gives you the old school Mopar look. If you like modern plastic look, spend more for the ramAir. They both look good in their own way. Can you provide the link for the one you bought? Will this fit my 2023 1500 Rebel? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for that. One more question if you don't mind. The site is asking about ported throttle body, is that recommeded or no?
Won’t help anything if you’re engine is stock

Did you not want to cut your radiator cover?
I am going to but there were no instructions/suggestions for the best way. I atleast would like to see a picture for how much to cut.

It's all personal preference. I chose to trim mine to keep the RAM letters. Then used a hear gun to massage it up some do it didn't block flow. I used a jigsaw to cut it out.PXL_20210523_154841338.jpg
