Rear window surround crack.

No wait time on my repair, it was approved while the truck was being looked at, however the window had to be ordered. It was on backorder

So I still find a few drops of water in the ledge of the window frame right next to the headliner. I checked first thing this morning in the rain and it was dry. 3 hours later it was wet. I took off the 3rd brake light and replaced with the gasket that was recommended from Lowe’s. Once I installed the gasket on the light I put a light coating of RTV on the side of the gasket that’s exposed to the elements. When I dribble water on that set up, the water beaded and fell right off. I figure I’d try the rtv and use it to seal the gasket from absorbing ANY moisture. Will wait an hr and put her back out into the rain after the rtv sets up a bit. If there’s water inside again later, off to the dealer. I hope it’s not the just replaced rear window again!

When you reinstall the light, make sure you put some RTV or silicone on the screws when you put them in. Some have found water leaking past the screws and into the truck as well.

Hi @LimitedGRR - Please be sure to keep me posted if you do have to work with your dealer any further on this!
My truck was at the dealership wensday for my cracked frame and upper glove box light that's always on. They said haven't heard anything from FCA for the approval to replace rear window, what's the normal wait time for approval?
Hi @Czcon12 - If it would be of interest, I would be happy to escalate a case on your behalf on the customer care side so that a specialist can work alongside you and your dealer for this concern. Our team is just a private message away to start the process.

I'll take you up on that.

Glad to hear it! If you wouldn't mind sending me a private message with your VIN, contact info, and your dealer name, I would be more than happy to get this going for you.

Mark,

I replaced the gasket on the 3rd brake light with something more Robust and out of rubber and after 2 inches of rain last night the truck has no sign of leaks. (Knocks on wood trim dash panel)...... the gasket on the brake light is a sponge. when I took off the brake light I must have squeezed 3-4 tablespoons of water out of the gasket. plus there was water in the housing because of the over saturation of the spongy gasket. Do you have the ability to escalate these things to engineering? It would be such an easy fix to use a slightly better gasket and save thousands in warranty claims!

I've had my 2020 Rebel since end of March and so far no known leaks or cracks.

I did read through this thread and decided to pickup the md Auto & Marine Rubber Weatherseal as several have suggested in previous pages to replace the factory 3rd brake light gasket.

Would it be advised that I change out the 3rd brake light gasket now even though I have had no leaks yet? I just don't want to have to go through with getting things replaced even if it is under warranty if I can avoid it, even knowing that for every truck that has issues there are many more that do not.

I wouldn't change it if you aren't having any water issues. At the first indication of any water leak then that's the first thing I would do. Just my opinion. I replaced mine and no water leak since.

I would wait. Not every one will have the leak. And it will be easy to figure out the source once you see it.

You could but like Jeffjad said, u might as well wait. I put mine over the factory seal and it’s been great. It has rained very hard the past few days and it’s still completely dry inside. I think the seal is slightly cheaper at Lowe’s but I got mine at Ace Hardware for $10.59.

Mine was 2 hrs. max for FCA approval to replace rear glass & cracks in led taillight housings

Thank you for taking the time to follow up with me, @LimitedGRR. I have previously escalated this thread to the appropriate internal teams and I will also make sure to get this suggestion documented where I can!

Well, let me add my truck to the ever-growing list of trucks that are having these cracks and water issues.

...damn thing is leaking again.. no cracks this time though.

Goes back in again on Wednesday.

Check your 3rd brake light They has to remove it to replace glass They May have not tightened it enough or the seal can be worn out. It’s a spongy foam that can’t be reused to often because it deforms. Most of us have upgraded the seal with a rubber weatherstrip from Lowe’s. I had that happen to me after glass swap and once I installed the seal it’s dry even after 3 inches fell on it last week

Thanks, I'll give it a look once the rain stops.

There’s so many posts here it’s hard to assess.. I’m seeing 2 cracks like many of you but no leak yet. However I haven’t had in any real rain storm. Is it likely that even with the cracked surrounding the ingress of water is at the 3rd brake light and the cracked window surrounding is just the first point of visible water?
