Rear window surround crack.

Anyone know the following (without having to scan through 30 pages)?

Does Ram do this repair at the dealership or is it typically an auto glass repair place?
Does anyone know if the rear seat and rear wall cover panel needs to be removed to make this swap?

I recently installed sound deadening and full stereo to my truck so my amps, wiring, etc are all back there. I doubt anything would happen, but I also dont want them being careless and messing something up.

Depends on the dealer, but seems most have a glass company do it. The dealer near me subs it out.
I don't know for sure, but from what I've read they remove the back seat and drop the headliner partially.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like fun! Luckily it does not seem like mine is leaking any water, at least not that I have seen. Might postpone it a while.

Funny that mines not cracked, but leaks, but yours is cracked and no leaks. Mines most likely the third brake light though. I'm sure mine will crack soon.

Just had my rear sliding glass & cracked taillights replaced yesterday by dealer. And Yes, They do sub out job to a glass company & the rear seat has to be removed.

So add me to the pile of leaky back windows. My Rebel is a month old with 1180 miles and I have water dripping today. My frame has no cracks in it and the dealership wants to replace the back window assembly. I told him it might be the 3rd brake light or antenna, and he assured me it isn't. Whatever, why go the expensive route instead of trying the smaller things first. Anyway, they subcontract out to a local glass place. Anything I should be aware of when I get my truck back? Anything I should look for? Or anything I should request? I know that there is the rear air bags, and I'm worried if there is signs of water, they'll just say F-It and go about their business. I hate that at 1180 miles it's going in for warranty work...

They completed the removal and replacement of my rear window backlite (68426398AC) today. The dealer tech. did all of the prep work (The rear seats and C-pillar trim had to be removed because I have a slider.) and specialty glass company technicians performed the replacement on the dealers' site. The actual repair was completed yesterday, but they wanted time for the window adhesive to cure and they had to clean the headliner, which took longer than expected.

The dealer tech. said that although mine didn't have the crack in the window frame as most others have had, there was a void in the window adhesive at the top, right under the CHMSL (naturally!) I can see that the glass company used a lot more adhesive than I remember came from the factory.

Rain is in the forecast for all day tomorrow so I'll be able to status everyone on the level of success.

Of course with a new window installed, I check this morning after heavy over night rain and I had a bit of water sitting on the frame above the glass. The droplets were on the flat part of the frame right where it turns up under the headliner. No cracks on the frame. I checked the 3rd brake light and it didn’t appear to be snugged down too tightly. Pulled it off and noticed the foam block that sits beneath the light was wet. Shark fin was dry. I suspect the glass shop when replacing the glass, had to take off the 3rd light and did not reinstalled it too tightly.

So be warned! If you had your glass replaced, check the torque on the 3rd brake light screws. You might need to snug them down.

Dropped my truck off at the dealer this morning. Wish me luck! I've had some bad experiences at different dealerships, so I am really worried my truck is not gonna come back in the flawless condition it is when I dropped it off (well I guess not flawless since it's leaking water, but the cleanliness of the exterior and interior is almost in perfect condition). I could see in the shop and they had a ram that they just replaced the back window. Hoping mine is just the brake light.

No, window was cracked on both sides of the sliding glass and it was obvious where the water was coming from and dripping from beneath frAme and onto the glass. Hopefully tightening the screws will solve the problem. How was your repair experience? Any issues with the truck after the replacement (other than not tightening the screws in the light)?

It was fine. I’m lucky to have a great dealer to work with. Let them know I had a crack, brought it in same day so they can document and get fca approval. Fca approval came in 2 hours and truck was done next day.

It boggles my mind as well. Especially for how we are paying for these things. We'll see how my adventure goes with Ram, but so far I'm not impressed.

Can't blame you. I don't have this particular issue, but it is concerning that these trucks have been rolling off the line for over two years, and they still don't seem to have a handle on their QC.
