RamBox warped and misaligned

So far had one box fail, dealer had to order a new one. I know what the problem is, it's a very poor design... The way the top lid is held to the under skeleton structure is by way of a small indexed tab with , this tab is supposed to "click" into a square hollow tab in the under skeleton structure, but that tab is thin and flimsy, so it does not stay erect and in place, allowing the lid to fall away from the structure, because the lid tab slips out of the under hollow tab. It's a really terrible design, doomed to fail right from the start, I don't understand what they didn't just have threaded inserts, and screw it together..??

Mine are pretty bad , but don’t trust the local dealer to touch them. Hopefully ram sees the problems and engineers a fix

That would probably require a redesign from engineering, retooling, and retraining the assembly crew. FCA's motto on most of these things seems to be "don't bother unless it starts to affect our bottom line through bad PR/loss of sales." There probably aren't enough Ramboxes in the wild (and enough people with those Ramboxes throwing a fit) for them to care.

That’s true! Unfortunately I don’t think mine will adjust the way I need it to. The ends are bowed/warped upwards and no amount of adjusting can fix that. Too bad there weren’t spacers in the hinge brackets to remove to drop the ends down.

Exactly what I want to find out .. there is either a lip inside that isn't lined up from the manufacturer, or something that can be sanded down to stop that nasty looking bowing :(

Man I woulda loved to have seen a photo to see if it is what I've been thinking myself .. I'll tear mine apart if I have to .. The replacement parts aren't TOO expensive, but having to repaint (to match) the main panel if I break that would not be fun.

I was flexing mine up and down and side to side but it wasn't snapping free. I should have taken a photo of mine all apart with all the screws removed from the inner panel :(

It’s also a third-party supplier (not FCA) making these things...and it’s a new supplier for the 5th-gens, as the previous one is no longer in business. Knowing this, the “growing pains” we’re seeing with respect to production quality of the new RamBoxes are perhaps disappointing but not surprising.

The new supplier should be fired.
Are the 2020 models the same? I imagine so. Prob will be until 6th gen!

2020 is the same. I’m just waiting to see if I can live with them. 2 weeks coming up since picking her up. Seems to me that only a body specialist can get them to fit properly.

Waiting for my newly ordered 2020 Laramie Longhorn, Delmonico Red, chrome bumpers, 20” wheels, 5.7 V8 Hemi MDS VVT eTorque, 3.92 rear, all options except diesel, multifunction tailgate, protection group and trailer tow group. Interior Black/New Saddle. Looking forward to delivery. Truck arrived!!! Yes!

I don't think a specialist can do much with what is there without ripping it apart and customizing it. Just not enough adjustment points available.

Was out at Princess Auto last night and a 4th gen RAM BOX truck was parked close by, so I had a quick peek and noticed that his fitment was better than ours but still not perfect. 3 of the ends looked good but 1 was off still. I must say I’m happy the power locks are now included in them unlike the 4th gens!

Power locks were included on the 4th Gens as well, I had them on my 2014 Outdoorsman.

The real killer is when you open/close a 4th gen RamBox. Those doors are much heavier and solid. You will do a double take if all you've ever used is the 5th gen doors.

But lighter saves fuel, right?

Oh so the key/button is power also? Gotcha.
If mine looked like that 4th gen I'd be happy and leave it be.

My issue is the body actually pulling apart from the Ram Box. This is a 2019 2500 Longhorn. Both sides are doing this, less than 7,000 miles on them. My dealership is ordering new ones to replace them, but my fear is this is a systemic issue vs a one time thing.

Wow that one is bad! Is it even watertight anymore?

For now, no water is getting in. It functions nicely, but it's an eyesore. I'm a GM convert, so getting an $82K truck and having the body literally pull apart is disappointing. Hopefully the dealership is able to completely resolve this one.

Thanks for the picture. I'd love to tear into that lid assembly and see how it's put together.

You and me both! The truck is awesome...the RamBox is the only negative thus far. I'm really hoping this gets sorted out :)

Quick update... my dealership has ordered new Rambox lids for my truck. They said the warping (up/down/up curvature) of the lid cannot be adjusted for and has to be replaced. I don't have a lot of confidence that the new lids will be much better, but it would be nice if they were. The fit of the Ramboxes is my one real issue with this truck in the fit & finish department. I'll post more pic when they are installed in a few weeks.
