I don’t know what happened to the other thread regarding this issue. It seems to have been deleted.

As many others have experienced, my RamBox lids are warping up on the edges and misaligned with the body.

I took my truck to the dealership today and they weren’t excited about having to deal with it. They said they need to get authorization from FCA and order new boxes and then paint them. Made it sound like FCA would not accept the claim. I told them: okay, do what you need to do to get it fixed. I dropped it off with no estimate on if/when it will be fixed.

The state of my RamBox lids is unacceptable in any truck, much less in a $70k Limited with less than 4,000 miles.

Has anyone had any success in getting their RamBox lids replaced and/or aligned by the Dealership?

@RamCares please let me know what you need to document this problem. I am not convinced the dealership will take care of it.

I'm surprised they didn't take photographs and let you take your ride home. Late last year I brought in my Grand Cherokee Summit with blistering on the aluminum hood. They took pictures, when I got home I called FCA Headquarters and opened a star case. In a few days all repairs were scheduled and done.

I completely agree with you, the fit and finish is horrible on the rambox lids for the 2019 model year. I had a 2018 Ram Rebel with the ramboxes and the fit and finish aligned nicely. The gap was bigger but that was by design and didn't look defective. This just looks defective, its the new type of plastic they are using, it's thinner and warps.

Although I want mine fixed ASAP, i realize the new set is going to do the same thing, I am waiting for the 2020 model year to come out and see if there's a revision to the lids before requesting a repair. I might suggest you do the same, but understand if you don't.

Definitely reach out to @RamCares as they are now compiling a list of owners with VINs for this exact issue. Sounds more like it's in the data collection phase but at least Ram is aware of it and at least looking to see how widespread it is.

So to everyone with the warping RAMbox lids - if you had to order your truck again would you still go with the RAMbox?
From what I can gather it's just an appearance issue and they still remain waterproof and latch ok? (not saying that makes it any less important of an issue to resolve since I agree, trucks this expensive shouldn't have this issue - especially after the RAMbox has been around for a number of years now)

Mine are crooked. You can notice the defect from one aisle over in a parking lot. They don’t leak water and dealerships tend to make matters worse, so I am leaving it be. I use them DAILY and never have an issue with them, aside from having to slam them shut.

I knew about the issue and still required it in the new truck. I would buy it again with ramboxes

Same here -- if you have been following me, I didn't even have a rig until yesterday. I brought it home last night and yup :(

bigger gap between the pass rambox and bed body panel .. I only noticed that when I looked out my window this morning (2nd floor).
I see where the black plastic top is what warps and pulls away from the painted panel. I am in the middle of designing end caps that I can attach to see if it helps hold the shape.

Be sure to check out the DIY article by @Edwards on how to remove / adjust / reinstall the RamBoxes. If you want it done right...

Love the RamBox's! It was one of the features that had me sold on a Ram. Like having two trunks and I use the driver's side at least weekly. Mine are still sealed and I don't think they are actually warping. They just won't line up plumb so they appear to be warped towards the rear. Ram needs to work this out because not only are owners living with cheaped out plastic, it's bad advertising for the whole world to see. You can spot the gross misalignment from a fair distance.

If I was Chevy, I'd make an ad poking fun at it using real world photos.

Update: picked up the truck. Dealership said they have replaced RamBoxes already for the same problem and that new RamBoxes will be ordered for my truck. They will give me a call once they get them in.

We’ll see...

Hi cipherbreak,

We're glad to hear that your dealer is addressing this for you. We certainly understand how disappointing this may be. Please send us a private message if you need any additional assistance during this process.

I have Ramboxes on my new Longhorn. The problem on mine is the plastic pieces on top of the lids is pulling away from the lids themselves near each end. This gives the appearance of misaligned lids. My lids would be even if the plastic piece on top wasn’t separating at each end. I wish they could find a fix for this as it is unsightly. This doesn’t belong on such an expensive truck. However, the Ramboxes are one of the must have features when looking for my new truck. Just like the Hemi, 3.92 gears, Longhorn package and anti-spin rear end.
A few posts up a member mentioned he is designing end caps to keep this from happening. I may be interested in some when you finalize your design.

Possible to put some PL Premium in there (or another adhesive) to keep them down?

I am not familiar with PL Premium. Is it a strong adhesive? I had also wondered about putting some screws in from the underside
but am hesitant to start drilling and tapping on my new truck. It shouldn't be my responsibility anyway, Ram should be making sure this is fixed properly but I doubt that is going to happen. I don't want new lids as I am leery about my dealer matching the paint properly. Plus I have put a ceramic coating on my truck and would have to redo it on the new lids

I'm in the same situation you are and its getting very frustrating....as of right now I'm trying to get a star case open but Chrysler nor the dealership want to open one it seems like. Chrysler tells me the dealer has to open one, and the dealer tells me Chrysler is the one who opens them, its been a back and forth battle between the two and nothing has been done. I am also leery about new lids due to the possibility of paint not matching and having to scuff up the bed panels in order to "blend" the paint into the lid well enough to not be noticeable.

I wondered the same, but not going to dig into it TOO much if the dealer and @RamCares will be swapping them out.

The engineers should put a set on their tables and grab a set from the Classic/Rebel which are much more sturdy and beefy. After they look at them side-by-side, place them into a truck like the linetech's would and see why all of us are complaining. :)
