Disappointing numbers - 1220#
2019 RAM 1500 Laramie Sport, 5.7 (non-eTorque), Off-road, no RamBoxes, no cover. Bought to tow a 27’ Airstream Globetrotter with 1000# tongue wt., 6600# dry, 7600 max. Leaves just enough for me and the dog. Haven’t told the wife she’s not going yet due to cargo capacity:-)AC951361-141E-4EF5-B0B5-0367E2891064.jpeg9D69A8DE-78FB-4F4D-8AC4-DE4AFB9A2575.jpeg3E22463B-9B21-4225-B27B-C9C7E4C01801.jpeg

Okay...two payload stickers revealed on the new 2019 Ram HD.

Powerwagon and Bighorn Mega Cab.

Ok, just some numbers...max payload is 7680 lbs...but that is a dually.

Max Powerwagon payload is 1660.

Max 2500 payload is almost 4000lbs

Okay without further ado...Powerwagon...1100lbs
Bighorn Mega...1635lbs.

You have to make sure you check the specific truck.

Max payload and max towing are specific. They are not able to be had in the same truck.

Those are a far cry from what the towing charts will make you believe at a glance

that 1100 for the PW is crazy. Once I get the winch bumpers, winch and bed cover on my baby power wagon, I'm still going to be over 1200#'s available.

I'll work on my signature sometime, busy at the moment.
Awesome, thank you. We greatly appreciate it and it will make asking and answering questions much easier.

Thanks. That is a good payload. Your camper should be a joy to tow

You're welcome devildodge! Thanks. Yeah, I thought so to. I knew I had to be bettering ourselves, going from mid-size to half ton! You'll always hit payload, before hitting towing capacity, is the way it was explained to me.

So far the payload is the only mark against my wonderful new RAM. Sitting at 1515 for a Big Horn 6'4 5.7l no E-torque 4x4 Crew with the following options: 5 pass seating, LED group, Bed Utility, Level 2 Package, 3.92 Diff + Anti-Spin, Sunroof, Rear Wheel liners, Side-steps, 33 gal tank, NAV, 20" rims, Blind spot.

Cross shopped a 2019 Silverado LT with less options so it's not totally apples to apples (no boards, no sunroof, 24 gal tank, bench front, no bed liner) but the payload difference was staggering - Silverado stickered at 1950! Now optioned just like the RAM I'm sure it would be down to around 1800 but still, damn... of course the ride wasn't even comparable between the two which now makes total sense ;)

I did the math on my expected trailer pull and after I load the whole family and account for hitch weight I'm only left with about 150 lbs of wiggle room for gear which isn't great but at least better than was I was in before. With the RAM I'll be forced to stow my 200 lb inverter generator in the trailer rather than the bed. Such is a sacrifice I'm wiling to make since the RAM was MILES ahead of fit and finish than GM, it was pretty pathetic of GM that the Silverado looked the way it did after a supposed "full redesign", yeah it was better than the old cabin but not anywhere near what RAM has done.

The huge sunroof and huge gas tank are the killers here, and also, I believe the new silverado's are lighter than the Rams

The sunroof cost some lbs for sure, but its funny to me that when you are towing you want every extra gallon you can, but then it hurts your towing #'s . If figure since payload includes a full tank of gas I'm clawing back payload as I burn it on the way lol. For me it just means I have to resist the temptation to put stuff in the bed of the truck and place it in trailer instead.

I would like get some real #'s at a CAT scale before I start my camping season. Probably will explore this come spring for a final sanity check

1414# (truck in sig).... now to start looking at possible Travel Trailers....173FF511-0817-4F54-8AF8-528B3168DC31.jpeg
