Can someone explain why a 4x2's gvwr is reduced from 7100 to 6900 when all load supporting components are the same other than spindles?

I would think the 4x2 truck would still be able to operate safely at 7100 curb weight and therefore carry the weight as payload vs in the front differential, transfer, and half axles as the 4x4 must.

It's a balance thing. Weight coming off the front of the truck does not mean you can carry more in the rear, especially if you need to keep predictable handling characteristics while both loaded and unloaded.

200lbs is probably pretty close to exactly what the 4x4 components add to the truck just up front.

Disappointing numbers - 1220#
2019 RAM 1500 Laramie Sport, 5.7 (non-eTorque), Off-road, no RamBoxes, no cover. Bought to tow a 27’ Airstream Globetrotter with 1000# tongue wt., 6600# dry, 7600 max. Leaves just enough for me and the dog. Haven’t told the wife she’s not going yet due to cargo capacity:)

Well.. you can put her in the AS rather than the cab....;)

Ha! Just realized we exchanged posts on the Airstream Forum! Boy, those Ford guys like to remind us they have more payload capacity, right?

LOL! I'm new there and trying to be nice, but that post is not at all relevant to your request. What I find interesting is that he didn't post the trim levels... a lightly optioned truck will get you a high payload regardless of manufacturer.

I'm planning on renting something close to the same weight through Outdoorsy and see how the truck handles before we consider the AS or swap the truck out for a 2500 (which I'd rather not do).

I love all my accessories and luxury addons. So don't care about payload. This is my daily driver and i have a F350 for the heavy duty stuff :)

A salesman is trying to tell me that the sticker on the inside of door is generic and the actual number to trust is the report they run off by the VIN. The payload number on the sticker is about 400 pounds less than the report. What he is telling me is obviously not correct?

Trust the sticker inside the door. It has been verified by several members here by weighing their truck. DO NOT trust the salesman!

Yea, he’s an idiot. Ask him to run 3 different vins on the lot...

Look at the sticker and the truck registration weight if your frame supports 7100 lbs - truck actual truck weight on a scale 5033 = 2067 and on my sticker it says 1857 so my real payload is 2067 pounds
