Navigation App Crashing

Update: I drove the truck for several 1 hour trips today and had no issues with the navigation restarting. I'm not sure what changed, I didn't do anything on my end.
Fingers crossed that this has been resolved and will soon be fixed for everyone.

I just checked and the newest North America maps are 16.6 gigs and fits on a 32gb flash drive. Make sure the drive is formatted FAT32. The info says to start the truck and install the maps, however I did it in ACC with a small charger on the battery. After 30 mins it'll kick off, but power is not completely removed from the radio and quickly tapping it back to ACC continued the install just fine.

I've never had this issue with my navigation but I only have one profile set up...maybe that helped.
I included both the North and South America Maps since they both seemed to be showing the "Loading" problem that others though was the indication of the nav reboot issue. I mean, I guess you could do them one at a time, but I never miss an excuse to wander over to Best Buy and look around.

I may try the flash drive thing, with the engine running if I read correctly.
I just did the latest update this morning - it took 34 minutes using a USB 3.0 32gig flash drive. Total of 5 files 16.6gigs. Works fine so far.

Where do you get this update?
It's been posted many times in the forums - from the manufacturer:
This is just theTomTom map data though. If you're having software issues like the Nav crashing, the updated maps probably won't make a difference. I don't have any serious issues with my Nav or Uconnect 5 system so the update works just like the previous maps.

If your Nav is crashing, try deleting extra driver profiles so you only have the main one. I only have one, and no crashes on the latest Uconnect 5 firmware T25.48 or previous versions. I think there's a bug in the firmware where it can't figure out the profiles and crashes.

Apparently I've managed to stump my dealership, as they have no idea how to clear the storage on the radio. So I have to take the truck back in 2 weeks for them to give me a loaner and open a STAR case. @RamCares , why isn't this something that's as simple as a Factory Reset on the Radio?

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the shout! We're advised this is a known concern that Engineering is currently investigating to resolve at this time. We hope to return soon once further details are available with a fix.

Same issue in 23 Limited. Did a factory reset but didn’t fix it.

OK, so here's the latest. I was able to get maps back on the head unit. Had to do another Factory Reset and only upload one region of maps at a time. I guess there was only enough space for one at a time. But after the map update completed, the Nav no longer resets every 5-7 minutes. So for now I'll call it a win until the full update comes out.

Are you trying to load the north and south america maps at the same time? I don't know if the nav supports that. Usually navs support a single region at a time. So either north or south america, not both.

It was taking it with both regions at the same time when I first started, but got screwed up by using AUX or Run without the engine actually running (everything shut off before the update would complete). I think the two failed attempts ate up too much space. So now it will only do one region at a time.

My rebel is 26 (something, I believe) on UConnect. My UConnect crashes about every 7 minutes.

The Tom Tom nav in our Uconnect 5 equipped 21 Jeep Grand Cherokee L started doing this exact thing after an over the air update was installed. Did a factory reset on it, then went into the nav settings and unchecked the shopping mall POI (like mentioned above) and all other POI’s as well and it fixed the glitch. May be worth a shot for those having this issue.
I posted a fix and hope you can search it and try what I did to fix mine! Search for thread or post with this tittle
Ucconect 5 12" screen TomTom Maps crashing FIXED !!!!!!
Plot twist- maps were updated for me today. Started with the cannot automatically update maps- turned it off when I picked up the kiddo and when I started it again, it displayed the relevant maps updated. View attachment 165153View attachment 165152Problem didn’t appear on the 10 minute drive home.
Did you have the "update over wifi" button checked off? Im thinking this maybe the problem but not sure but i did fix mine I have posted my fix that finally worked for me and has been 4 days without a problem perhaps you can search for either my profile or a post that has a tittle of "Ucconect 5 12" screen TomTom Maps crashing FIXED !!!!!!" And try it to see if it is indeed the fix!!!! It just includes the clearing all info and presets before the factory reset and keeping your phone off and away or anything that will make the system return to your old settings like what mine did the first time around I noticed even after factory reset it had still old settings like my dark screen settings should not have been there after the factory reset so the new post called "" Ucconect 5 12" screen TomTom Maps crashing FIXED !!!!!! """ has all the steps I took that finally fixed my truck! Good luck and let me know if it works for you guys "again ithink the problem may originate with the "update over wifi" checked on when it should be off so it gets the over the air updates as it was intended and why we all got a similar message about maps can't update prior to the crash
2023 1500 limited, every 7 min like the above posts, it did not happen until after the latest firmware update. Kinda disappointing we don’t have a solution yet.

Try my fix on a post called"" Ucconect 5 12" screen TomTom Maps crashing FIXED !!!!!! "" and yes vehicle must be in the run position to work but I added a few things to that fix whis was do a "factory update" that finally worked for me

I don't think it has enough memory for both regions. It might, but I doubt it as most manufacturers don't waste money on memory that's not needed. Unless you live in Mexico and drive south, there's not a lot of need for it.
but got screwed up by using AUX or Run without the engine actually running (everything shut off before the update would complete).
If you're watching it, you can do it without the engine running, but have to be there to quickly hit the Start/Stop button again to keep power alive. Been there, done that. The last update I did, I simply did it driving an hour to a known destination where I didn't need nav and let it update along the way.
I think the two failed attempts ate up too much space. So now it will only do one region at a time.
Again, I don't think it's meant to be loaded up with two regions - that's a lot of data to process driving to McDonald's.
😁

I have a 2023 Ram 1500 Limited less than 3 months old. Issue just started on Saturday 8/12, and has been non stop since. What an annoying distraction while driving. Tried the factory reset this evening, and problem still exists. I do have a dealer appointment in two weeks ( best they could do ) even after purchasing 23 vehicles from them in the last 26 years. Go figure. Hope it will get resolved or will be making purchase 24 LOL.
Hoping this is the way to provide an update: Sunday 8/27 had to go the airport to pick up the wife. After doing all the recommended actions through out this thread, issue still persisted. A 1 hour drive to the airport the screen changed 22 times ( Tom-Tom loading maps ). Turned the annoying thing off. Parked for about 90 minutes waiting for the wife. Got back to the truck and headed home. On the drive home the screen did not change at all. Curiosity got the best of me. Checked the settings and noticed the maps were not loading anymore, and information was complete. I had a dealer appointment on 8/28 for them to potentially keep the truck for days while they tried to figure out the issue. On the way there the screen never changed, and the settings are still correct. I cancelled the appointment and the truck has been fine to date. Not sure what changed or who corrected the issue, but I believe Tom-Tom may have sent an update to resolve the issue. Fingers and anything else I can cross that the problem is resolved.

Well, if you decide to try this, don't make the same mistake I did. I tried updating the maps with the ignition in Aux and Run with the Engine off and it failed both times due to a 30 minute timeout where everything shuts off. Now when I try with the engine running I get an error stating there isn't enough space on the system. So I guess I'm off to the dealer on Monday to un-f#$k this up.
I did mine Wednesday with the motor running the entire time and it has worked thus far.
