Navigation App Crashing

The Tom Tom nav in our Uconnect 5 equipped 21 Jeep Grand Cherokee L started doing this exact thing after an over the air update was installed. Did a factory reset on it, then went into the nav settings and unchecked the shopping mall POI (like mentioned above) and all other POI’s as well and it fixed the glitch. May be worth a shot for those having this issue.

Same issue with my 2022 Ram 1500. Right after an update. Ram cares said to contact Syrius XM Guardian...seriously????

Picked up my 2023 RAM 1500 Limited yesterday afternoon (not even 24 hours ago actually) and am having this exact problem. About every 7 minutes, the screen goes black, the Tomtom logo pops up, then the maps resume a little less than a minute later. The Software version of my UC5 Radio is FCA-MY23.T25.48-PROD and according to the Uconnect update site when searching by VIN, that's the latest version (though reading other comments leads me to believe that may not be accurate). Also worth noting, this didn't occur when I did the test drive at the dealership, which tells me an update they performed as part of the pre-delivery process likely caused this. I haven't tried resetting the radio as that doesn't appear to solve anything.

My case with RAM Connect has been escalated. Stay tuned. I've made them aware that others are reporting the same problem on this forum.
Ok, I reset infotainment by holding down the volume and tuning buttons thru the restart, nothing changed, but three days later the problem stopped. Check to make sure you don’t have an update waiting because I believe mine updated overnight and resolve the issue.

I'm having the same issue on my '23 with the navigation rebooting every 5-10 minutes. Very annoying.

The Uconnect system has been very buggy since day one, and it's so frustrating to me that it nearly ruins an otherwise great truck. I've seriously considered trading my Ram in for a Chevy solely because of the buggy software. If this continues, I probably will.

For example, I gave up on wireless Apple CarPlay a long time ago and only use it wired now. I mean c'mon, a brand new $70,000 truck can't even get wireless CarPlay right? A base model Kia can do that.

Such a shame that these great trucks came with terrible software and they're too incompetent to fix it.

It’s not Uconnect it’s guardianxm. Think about it, no software updates and now all the vehicles are having the same reboot symptom. Something is being transmitted to the Uconnect that it doesn’t like causing Tom Tom to reboot.

Whether it's Uconnect or Gaurdianxm is inconsequential in my opinion. These truck's software in general is trash.

RAM Connect requested that I do a factory reset on the radio. I doubted that it would work since it has not resolved the problem the others who have tried it recently. But, I did it anyway so I can say it's been done. And... the problem persists. Reported my findings, waiting to hear what's next.

btw, TomTom's position is, "we only provide map data to the manufacturer. The software to download the updates is supported by the manufacturer"
8/20/23 Well... something has changed. We drove 2 hours yesterday to visit family and the NAV reset consistently every 7-8 min. On the 2 hour drive home, we didn't notice it reset once. From the full NAV screen, bottom left, I select the button showing 3 horizontal lines. From there I select Maps. Since we started troubleshooting this problem, it would show all 3 maps (Caribbean, Central American & North American) as "loading". But now, it was showing options to Update. There is also a note that says, "Maps will be updated when your vehicle is powered off and has a secure Wi-Fi connection". It shows the maps "updating" or "partially updating" now. I also connected the truck to AT&T's built in Wi-Fi (free for 3 months) hot spot, guessing that would help things along. Today, the maps are still 'Updating" (the North American map is huge). The NAV is still behaving. Wonder if RAM/Uconnect fixed something. ???

I just went and checked mine, and all maps are still showing "Loading...". NAV is still resetting pretty regularly too.

Plot twist- maps were updated for me today. Started with the cannot automatically update maps- turned it off when I picked up the kiddo and when I started it again, it displayed the relevant maps updated. Problem didn’t appear on the 10 minute drive home.
Mine has gone back to normal and hasn't rebooted since this update.

I have a 2023 lunar Trx and i bought it Sunday and it has been doing it ever since. I tried the factory reset and then the soft reset still doing it. Very annoying. I have a dealer appointment on the 31st. I hope this gets resolved

2023 Rebel. Keeps rebooting every seven minutes. Been to the dealer twice. They factory reset it and it worked for about an hour.

They said they were told NOT to order a new screen. My issue, you can argue it's a safety issue. (I argue for a living, lol.)

Do I push for a buy back or wait for the promised software update?

OK guys, I hope this helps. I had the same problem on my brand new 2023 Limited since I picked it up last week. Did factory reset and didn’t work. Uconnect helpline added some additional steps to my reset, and it worked! They said this has been happening and that they haven’t had anybody come back after following the steps.

I will post the email below.

Note the extra step of only having one profile. Also, they told me over the phone (which isn’t listed in the email), to leave my truck on for 15 minutes during reset. Then turned it off, when I turned it back on it worked. I did not have to do the second option of installing new maps.

Hope this helps with some of your heartaches. It helped me.

Step 1- Delete all the profiles, except driver 1.

Step 2- Perform Radio Factory Reset: Go to Apps--> Settings-->Reset-->Factory Reset.

If you have done this step and have found no result that helped the functionality of the navigation system; you may try these remaining steps as well.

Try and use this link:

To download the latest maps go to the link above and with a usb flash drive do the following:

1. Format the USB: Right Click on USB drive-->>Format-->>File system--->>FAT32 or NTFS-->>Start.

2. Copy the Map files to the USB stick.

3. Insert the USB stick to the USB port in the Vehicle. Once after USB is detected pop-up should occur saying "Do you want to update your system with new navigation content" then select start>>OK

4. It will take 30-40minutes to complete the update process

Once this is done the maps should be updated.

Went into my settings and only had parking lots and gas stations selected for POI on the map and POI on the route. Oddly, ferries and toll booth were selected to show and I know that I turned them off when I got the truck. I'm in Wyoming and don't need either. Went through and toggled them off again and toggled the gas stations back on. Shopping Plazas was off on both, but cycled that just cause. I can understand an inplace update can go bad if the new structures do not map the old structures correctly so its worth a shot. Still though, it should have been thoroughly tested in dev before committing to prod and pushed out. Still better than a Tundra though. I'll report back if it persist or goes away for me. Long drive tomorrow on the interstate so lots of nothing around once I get out of town.
So I'm sorry to say that that did not work for my navigation after all !!!!! I'd venture to say this glitch renders the whole ucconect system usless!!!!! I very much rely on the navigation system and not a happy camper and agree with you that it was a pushed out system but feel there has been sufficient time to correct it so it's a bigger issue that it appears ! I certainly couldn't get away with such practices but they continue with impunity **this is where I am at now**
I hit the assist button on my overhead console then hit connected services I believe (there are 3 choices) anyway a guy came on and asked me to do a reboot = hold the power button for 15 seconds or until the screen reboots !
That also did not work!!!
so they sent me to "level 2 assistance" where a guy called me on the phone the next day and asked me to do a factory reset, I was driving at that time and told him I would do the factory reset when I got home and could he call me back to verify if that worked so I did the factory reset and so far so good but now get no audio from my callers while on the phone and feel that this whole system is in testing and we're the dummies
At any rate I think you will have to do the factory reset and or contact tech support
I will update this as we go!

Thanks for this, I'm going to give this a shot tonight and see what happens.

Well, if you decide to try this, don't make the same mistake I did. I tried updating the maps with the ignition in Aux and Run with the Engine off and it failed both times due to a 30 minute timeout where everything shuts off. Now when I try with the engine running I get an error stating there isn't enough space on the system. So I guess I'm off to the dealer on Monday to un-f#$k this up.

I thought I was fixed after just the factory reset, had to drive to south Georgia yesterday to pick up a 18Ft enclosed trailer. I've got 2000 miles on my 23 Limited, and just installed a factory brake controller, so I was curious of how things would go. The trailer had about 3-4K on it, so all in I was between 6000-7000 pounds. Self leveling worked perfect, tow mode was amazing - I did have to look up the yellow trailer with the MAX on top, but as far as mechanical performance - I could not have asked for more - even the mileage was better than I expected. The only draw back was the infotainment system, if I start the truck with a phone plugged in, it would give me a excess voltage detected warning - that took forever to clear - the Tom Tom started to crash again, and the car play would not work. These were unnecessary distractions driving through Atlanta. I ended up with my cell phone on my knee for directions.
My beautiful leather interior has now heard every cuss word in the English language, a few in German, and a couple in Spanish - This truck was supposed to make my life easier...lol.
Sadly the infotainment system issues overshadowed all the great thigs this truck did - so I really home they push a fix out soon. I may try the flash drive thing, with the engine running if I read correctly.

Yeah, I would definitely do it with the engine running, or when on a drive that's at least 40 minutes long where it can just chug along while you drive. That would be my recommendation because my radio is completely jacked at this point, and even performing a factory reset doesn't fix the problem. Also, you'll need a 64GB or larger Flash drive. Downloading all of the maps comes out to be 35.6GB, so it won't fit on a 32GB Flash Drive.

On the 8.4 map update it states to have it idling and parked.

I just checked and the newest North America maps are 16.6 gigs and fits on a 32gb flash drive. Make sure the drive is formatted FAT32. The info says to start the truck and install the maps, however I did it in ACC with a small charger on the battery. After 30 mins it'll kick off, but power is not completely removed from the radio and quickly tapping it back to ACC continued the install just fine.

I've never had this issue with my navigation but I only have one profile set up...maybe that helped.
