The ambient lighting doesn't mean much to me. I just noticed, with this truck, there is a lot.
Same here. I keep ambient lighting turned off or very dim most the time.

Don't even need the interior lights enabled either when the fire of a thousands suns beams from the touch screen at shutdown.

It does to me when I paid for it. Id have to doublecheck, but I think it was part of the packages I paid for

I noticed the other day when I turned the ambient lighting dial all the way up (until it stops), that it turns off the backlighting on the 4wd buttons.

One notch below the top setting and the backlighting of 4WD, 2WD, HIGH, LOW all light up.

Is that normal?

I usually keep mine full bright and haven’t noticed the 4wd lights turning off

I know this is an older post, but is there a way to get the ambient lighting to stay on all the time without dimming the dash lights? I'm pretty sure I have both wheels next to my light switch.

I have a 22 Laramie, and I'm considering getting the Paragoptics kit. Does it add the missing LED lights that Ram left off the trucks? I have AlfaOBD already, so I'm good on that.

Not sure on the 21's but some Laramies I've seen in the past had the connectors but the lights themselves werent there. So they order all 3 light housings and installed them without issue. easiest way to check is to pop out the drivers air vent and check to see if the connector is taped to the harness. Myself I have a Lonestar I added the Limited dash and wanted everything functioning my truck did not have the connectors so I made my own out of a door ambient light harness the connections are the same as the dash lights. Worked perfectly.. You dont have to remove the dash to add the harness.. View attachment 103767 View attachment 103768
I robbed the ambient harness from a donor IP harness. It has 6 female terminals. I know where 5 go-- 3 for the added ambient lights in the IP; 2 for the courtesy/ambient lights under the IP (footwell), and one male for pin 20A of XY370, 21 pin (for power). So I'm clear on all that. However, I can't find a home for the 6th female terminal in the harness. Do you know where it goes? Thanks, Brent

So I installed the missing ambient lights in the dash yesterday and wish I wouldn't have wasted my time. All the plugs were there but they were VERY well hidden. The left side one was a PIA to find. On mine it was taped to the main harness and completely wrapped up but it was in the part of the harness that is behind the instrument cluster and the wire was sandwiched between the dash and a brace. I had to remove the instrument cluster and a couple of screws behind the cluster in order to pull out the dash enough to free the wire after getting it cut out of where it was taped inside of the harness. The harness for the light above the glove box was actually taped inside of the main harness but down towards the floor. Unplugging the 8.4 was a pain because the antennae leads were not long enough to pull the unit out far enough to actually see behind it. You had to work blind to unplug them but once they were unplugged you could pull the unit out far enough to work comfortably on the rest of the connectors. The lighting itself is underwhelming.
I should have listened to you. But, I had the harness and decided to do it. The one over the glove box is nice; but the 2 on each side of the cluster are worthless. I saw in FM45's write up that he reformed the two trim pieces. If the plant had to do this, that's probably why the option was discontinued.

You don't have to remove the glovebox. it will slide in. It is a PIA to get though. It will take a few times to get the angle just right so it won't pop out on you while you're putting it in. Once it's in it won't pop out on you though. :)
I tried sliding it it; but decided to remove the glove boxes--just a bunch of screws. Once I understood how the light tube is secured (the tab on the end of the tube has to go past the "ear" molded into the IP) I might have been able to manipulate it in.

Finished....I couldn't half *** it. I removed the
upper and lower glove box. Made getting to the harness plug and installing the glove box light a breeze.

Overall results...meh. I'm in the camp of don't bother with this mod.

Much easier to get at the plug behind the cluster with the water removed.

And the results.

I agree. I like the one over the glove box; but the two on either side of the cluster are not much. I saw in FM45's write up about reforming the trim pieces to allow more light to come through. I can't imagine the plant did any finessing like that..

The standard courtesy system in the Ram uses halogen bulbs, the upgrade Led system uses three wires to power the 2 led package. --- one for courtesy the other ambient..

-=FM45=-
I robbed the IP ambient light wires from the donor harness and rebuilt them into my truck. Added the 3 IP lights, replaced the footwell lights and replaced the headlamp switch (2 wheels and rear fog light function--I'm optimistic). Did the Alfa changes

ECUConfig 4: Ambient Dimmer: No => Yes

CBC Config I/O: Ambient Light Dimmer Wheel Input Present: No => Yes

Cust.Set.Menu 1:Ambient Dimmer CSM Present: No => Yes

Everything works; but I have a curiosity question. The panel lamps, including cluster, dim with one wheel. The footwell and IP ambient dim with the other. However the small light in the overhead console stays constant. It's not a problem; but wondering why is doesn't dim when its connected to the same WT/GR as the footwell and IP ambient lights.
