How to: Add Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane assist, FCW & Auto Hi-beam to Ram 1500

First of all, I want to thank everyone who took the time to create these guides and help others here! Great work!

I’ve performed the mods for Auto High Beam and ACC on my 2021 Rebel, as described here.

The Auto High Beam works perfectly and is a great improvement for driving at night!

My vehicle already comes with Factory Front Collision Warning (FCW).

Now to the actual issue:
I successfully installed the ACC control unit on the steering wheel and made the following changes using AlfaOBD:
 • Cruise Control Present: No
 • Type of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system present: ACC with Stop & Go
 • P/T Chassis Net: ACC Adaptive Cruise Control: Enabled
ACC can be activated while driving, shows up normally in the cluster, and all steering wheel buttons are functioning.

The vehicle detects the car in front and tries to maintain the set speed. It follows the vehicle ahead at the selected distance, just as it should.

But here’s the issue:
As soon as the vehicle in front slows down, my truck tries to slow down too — it downshifts accordingly.
However, if downshifting alone isn’t enough, the truck continues approaching the vehicle ahead — but it does not brake!
When it gets too close, ACC fails and I get the following error messages in the cluster:
 • ACC Unavailable – Service Required
 • Auto Emergency Braking (AEB)/ACC Unavailable – Service Required
After that, ACC can no longer be activated.
Only after turning the vehicle off and restarting can I activate ACC again — but with the same issue.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
 • Disconnected the battery for several hours to perform a hard reset
 • Cleaned the camera lens responsible for detection
Both steps did not solve the issue.
FCW is enabled in the vehicle menu with active braking.
The vehicle does detect braking vehicles on the road and gives a warning — however, I haven’t yet tested active braking myself.
The ParkSense reverse braking works perfectly.

Does anyone know what the issue could be or how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

And you swapped in the correct abs/HCU modules?

I thought you didn’t have to do that if you originally had the front collision warning.

Correct me if I’m wrong.
EVERY SINGLE 2019-2024 Ram 1500 EXCEPT for the TRX needs the ABC/HCU swapped out when adding ACC.

So I only Need the abs Module:

(NO 1 in the picture)
Or do I also Need the Whole abs Block ?
(No 2)

Typically speaking when you buy number 2 it includes number 1. But for the record no you can not just replace the module.

Thank you!!!!! vincentw56 Jimmy07 Sohosys and others

I have successfully swapped a USED 2024 abs/hcu unit into my 2019 Laramie. Took about 4 hours and almost 32oz of Dot 4 fluid with power bleeder.

I have 0 lights on dash and no error messages. Also i didn’t do DASM module yet. Waiting on windshield appointment for that.

The one thing i saw was the longitudinal and lateral sensor failing as soon as it started. I have seen some people say it works still and some mentioned connecting it to from 2013+ in abs module instead of 2019+ i have tried both with same failure….

I do see this when i read system status
0f89768513c96d2d16c2666c78c0aaba.jpg

Is it important to have both longitudinal and lateral acceleration as valid? I just have one so far as seen in picture but there is no light or code for anything. For anyone that has done this is it same? I currently use android Alfa version. Do i need to get windows version of Alfa to get it to pass under the 2013+ menu?

Hi all,

I have a 2021 Laramie that already had the DASM, so I bough and replaced the ABS/HCU as well as the steering wheel button.

I've been successful in clearing most of the codes except for the following two: C2206 and U140E.

I did the swap of the parts on Wednesday and since completing the swap I have attempted the following:
 • Initially after install, I let the truck sit for 2 hours then retried running the list of commands from the pdf. Ended with same 2 codes.
 • I have let the truck sit overnight with the battery unhooked, then hooked the battery back up and reran the commands from pdf. Same result.
I have confirmed that EPB and ESC In-Plant mode are disabled (I did this the first night and have done this many times since just to confirm)

When running the Clearing Rolls information, I get
 • In-Plant Mode Status: No
 • VIN Learned Flag: No
 • Tire size programmed: Yes
 • Session still running: No
From what I understand, the VIN should be learned, when running "Read System ID", I get all ?????? for the VIN. I have attached a picture of the system ID result for your reference.

I'm also now wondering if the 68728726AA was in fact not the correct replacement part. I thought I had looked up that it was the part that superseded the one listed in the PDF.

Either way, I would think I should still be able to get the lights to go off even if I can't get the ACC to work.

Any help or advice anyone could give would be appreciated.

I'm not sure about the part number you received. It does show as replacing 68436462AK.

I replaced the ABS and HCU on my 2024 Laramie in May with new Mopar parts. I ordered and received part #68436462AM ABS module and part #68415320AA HCU. I installed both and got the same codes as you and some other codes as well. I went through the steps multiple times ensuring all the settings were correct. After many attempts to initialize the ABS module I ended up going to the dealer to get the module initialized. I paid a couple hours of labor and the ACC worked perfectly. After initialization the part number for the ABS ECU and hardware numbers were showing as 68548900AC when scanned with AlfaOBD. Others have had to have the initialization done by a dealer as well.

I used a used one and had the same codes that I could not get to clear. Not sure how/why it worked but I put the abs esc in and out of plant mode a couple times ending with out of plant mode and then went through the steps and everything cleared.

I had the same issue when i did this a few days ago. But after i restarted alfa app a few times and reset ecu it worked. The vin will be matched only when the static ecu initialization completes and the other codes are likely because of that. Heres what i suggest. Do reset vin values. Let it sit for 5 mins. Then do reset ecu a few times in alpha. Set plant mode to false. You can check the plant mode status in read system status to confirm it’s disabled. After that try the static ecu initialization(it can take some time to complete). If passed. Do reset ecu and read system id. You should have vin now. Then follow the pdf steps

I did as suggested. It doesn't seem to have worked. When running the Static ECU Initialization, it says Procedure Completed, but it also says "Test status: Coding data not received". I'm guessing that means it didn't pass?

If vin showed up after you did system read it worked. If not disconnect battery for 30mins and retry. I had to do that once when i initially started. But after i was able to get vin to all ? after vin reset i followed post #812. Between each step i had to cycle ignition twice, run reset ecu twice, close alfa app and restart it in tablet.

I have everything required and just needed the ACC switch and HCU/ABS. I’m using a brand new ABS and a used HCU off a 2019 limited with ACC. I manually bled the brakes and started following the procedures, the ECU initialization worked but the longitudinal sensor calibration keeps failing. I’ve attached my log if anyone has any advice.

I had the same thing happen but if you do system status read it will show you it’s valid for one of them. So far i have had no issues. You can look at my post above. Some people say it works even when it says failed and it seems to be true.

Yeah I continued to cycle through each step but still getting most of the faults

What error codes do you have? Does the system id read your actual vin?

It’s reading my Vin and I’m getting these

C220B
C2206
U140E
C006A
C0042
C10D0

I also tried turning the truck on and the ACC button isn’t even bringing up anything. Took a little break from the 100 degree heat so I’m going to go back out and try it all again soon.

Idk if abs/hcu from different vehicles will work. I have read through entire forum from beginning and didn’t hear much success from that. I did take apart my unit and i saw the abs ecu has 3 pin connector that goes into hcu so it might be software related over LIN bus. I even spoke to someone that flashed their existing ABS and HCU unit with ACC firmware and it didn’t like it…. Plus their HCU part number does show up as ACC compatible. Even the flash files have specific years listed for ecu part numbers…
I ended up getting a used abs with hcu unit off ebay for 170$ because of this and had no issues with getting codes cleared after the setup.
