Growling brakes in Reverse!

I have only had this happen a hand full of time backing out in reverse when my truck has sat outside. The noise was loud i was like wtf is going on. Not sure if this is a major issue moving forward.

I am also having the same brake growling problem when backing out of my driveway at a slow speed. It only does it in reverse and after the vehicle has sat for a while. It happens every day! It can be pretty loud.

Hi @Diggit4610 & @nabatron,

We certainly understand how this could be concerning. If you decide to address this with your dealers, please be sure to let us know via private message. We are more than happy to have this documented and connect you with case specialists who can provide an extra layer of support for that process.

I am close to claiming a lemon but i love my truck so much. Its been doing this for over a year now. The tsb should be released today but not sure. First it was just the fronts now its both front and back. When super cold the brakes are sticky snd dont release kind of like i have a launch mode. Sad wish FCA would be a little more caring. @RamCares

Just got my 2019 Crew cab Big horn 4x4. Love the truck but got same issue with brakes. Makes an annoying growl noise when I come out of my drive way slowly use brakes. This happens first thing in morning and during the first part of my commute to work. As truck gets warm noise seems to go almost all the way but doesn't. I took it to back to dealer and they mentioned inspection shows brakes were good. What could this be? Is it the pads?

I had this issue last winter, usually after driving on salted roads as the grit seemed to affect the pads and rotors. I have not had an issue since though but not much road salting this year yet.

My gen 4 outdoorsman did the same after sitting all night in the damp or rain. Gen 5 has yet to do it (only 3000 miles) its not the end of the world just the brakes doing there thing.. If it happens during your daily commute. run don't walk to the dealership. just my 2 cents

Mine has been in several times. The diagnosis is that springs are not allowing the pads to fully release. They’ve already done an all new set of rotors and pads in front. Now they are going to do all of them again cause the rear fix just got released. My pads stick even after rolling. Give it gas and it feels like launch control.

Mines at the dealer now and this is one of the 5 issues it’s in for.

What are the other issues?

Water leak, headliner, cracked rear sliding window, clunk in what sounds and feels like the front end, and rear brakes. It’s already had both headlights replaced. 600 miles on it.

Who told you that?

Unless they're suggesting that this issue is caused by the parking brake they're messing with you. There are no springs to retract the brake pads on disc brakes. The gas created from the heat when the brakes are applied pushes the pads away from the rotors.

Very true statement. The pads are not fully releasing at first they thought it was cause they were glazed so they changed them out but still having the growl. FCA released a rear brake kit for the moan but that doesn’t fix the sticky brakes.

I have to call dealer tomorrow see if when they can get the parts. Apparently FCA wasnt releasing the brake kit until Jan 1. @RamCares

Just had my Rebel at the dealer for the brakes moaning/screaming after sitting all night and for the door wind noise issue. The tech replaced both rear brake assembles, pads, etc. Did not change the rotors. I'm happy to say my brakes didn't wake up my neighbors this morning. No break noise at all.

hopefully this fixes everything....thought there was a TSB on the rear brake moan? was just changing the pads the TSB fix?

I’ve had mine changed already and they even fixed the glazing issue but the moaning/screaming is back. Hopefully the rear bracket fixes it but doesnt sound like it will since all 4 of mine are yelling not just rears anymore.

Anyone else's brakes sound like this?

That is exactly what mine sounded like. Would have to take another look at the service invoice but I believe they just replaced both rear calipers and pads. No more moan. Tech told me there was a service bulletin he found on it.

they have already done mine and it went away. Now its back! So annoying. Eventually the truck will be out of warranty and those replacements will be coming at our expense.

how many miles since you had it done?
