Grinding noise when turning to the right

Man, why in the world can't RAM/FCA/whoever figure this out?

How long has it been since your steering rack has been replaced and not heard the noise again? My dad traded his 19' Laramie this week for a 21' for this reason and so far, so good on the 21'. That was the first thing he tested.
Showed up about 5k miles in...at about 8k now and all good so far.

Had my 21 ~45 days, albeit 30 of them in the shop.

taking it back tomorrow cause the tailgate sticks. I was backing out of a spot earlier this week, had the wheel cranked all the way to the right and heard a slight grinding.

Same issue? Needs a steering rack?

Headed to the dealer in a few hours to pick it up. They told me they were able to duplicate the noise once, but not a second time and therefore cannot address it. Not an outstanding customer experience.

In my 2019, I had a similar grinding noise when making low speed turns (90 degree turns mostly), worse when there was an incline/decline, noticeable at low speed. Unfortunately it wouldn't always happen, it was intermittent which is the worst kind of problem.

I was convinced it was something wrong with the steering, I could feel it through the steering wheel. Took to dealer, couldn't reproduce. Took the service manager for a short ride and he noticed right away. It felt a lot like when 4WD is active and on dry pavement, and the steering shudders (it was in 2WD)

They replaced the differential fluid (it was reported low), added an "additive", and now appears to be fixed. I haven't had time to test it extensively yet, but a few days of "so far so good".

Had my truck in today. The tech put it on the hoist and was able to replicate the noise turning the wheel while the tires were off the ground.

They are ordering me a new steering rack and will do an alignment afterwards as I am getting uneven wear on my front tires

I started experiencing this issue in the past few weeks. 2019 Limited 25K miles. I am going to have to take my truck in to have it looked at.

2021 Ram Limited started at 5,000 miles. I now have 8,000 miles and it's still going strong. Had a wheel alignment done at 7,000 miles and that did not fix the issue. It's the exact same issue as everyone else. Right hand turns, less than 15 mph.

Just an idea...

These trucks have a hard stop when the wheel knuckle (sorry, not sure of the term) contacts the lower control arm. There's a cast horn in the knuckle meant to contact the lower control arm. You'll see wear there. It's meant to keep the flexible suspension components from being over-articulated.

Look for the shiny metal. At low speeds, full turn, and a shift in the suspension, I'd EXPECT a grinding noise.

I'm not sure if this is what a lot of what's being reported.

Thanks for the idea! Would a hard left turn under the same conditions also make a similar noise? The reports generally specify a right turn.

Also, could you explain a little more what you mean by a shift in the suspension?

It is asking a lot, but if you could post a picture or sketch of where the rubbing is that you describe, it would be most helpful to me when I look for it.

Thanks again!

That's not even CLOSE to the Problem!
it does it at the start of a turn,,,No Full Contact even CLOSE!!

Well, then that's not it. No way would a mechanical stop grind at the BEGINNING of the turn.

That was my .02.

I need RAM Cares to contact my Service Advisor as soon as possible.
The main reason it is in the shop is because of this specific issue....and while they did address other service bulletins...I need this one fixed STAT!

I don't know what you all do to help anyone??
My truck is in the shop now...and just because they cant replicate the issue that occurs for me EVERYDAY,does not mean that I am going to pick it up not repaired.
Took 2 months to get a loaner from the dealer..and I am not turning that in until
My truck is fixed.

you should post again....We here, are aware there is a problem. Does it affect the driving besides making a noise? I dont know for sure, but I am still driving mine until a fix is presented. When they figure out the problem, I will bring my truck in. We would tell your dealership what is wrong if any of us knew. I am guessing your truck being at the dealership for the past week is because they could not replicate the problem and its just sitting there waiting for you to pick it up. I myself will wait patiently while driving it everyday for Ram to figure it out. But, thats just me.

Exactly, it's a little annoying, but doesn't affect the drivability --- and I definitely don't want to be without my truck!. There is a star publication from FCA saying the engineers don't know what the problem is. Just a waste of time being without your truck.
