Front end clunk while turning - FIXED - TSB # 23-047-18

Showed my dealer the noise and was just told it was fixed. Says cause was loose front sway bar. Will report back if issue is fixed.

Anybody heard any clunking noises while turning? I can replicate the issue fairly easily. Doesn’t happen every time but often. Not sure if it might be air bags, control arms, etc but definitely sounds suspension/steering related. Wondering if it’s something that will break in or a problem I should have looked at.

I literally bought my truck yesterday and brought it back in today for the same reason. It’s a steering link issue. My dealer said there will probably be a recall with them. They are on an extreme backorder and won’t have it in until mid October.

Curious how they know it’s a steering linkage problem? Have not heard anything regarding that yet so it would be news to us.

Yeah I am curious about that too. My noise happened more driving in straight lines than turning.

Didn’t hear it on way home will update after a few days

Yeah I had kind of ruled out steering shaft because it never clunked while stationary and turning the wheel. Only when the suspension articulated while in motion.

I hope RAM gets in front of this. Mine is 1600 miles and makes noise every time I touch the wheel now.

Here is my speculation. I have looked and looked and I see this. I don't know why paint would be coming off here. The only reason there would be is because there is movement. Both my lower control arms the rear offset washer for the alignment has this same situation. I am going to try and see what the current torque is there this weekend.

I have noticed that paint missing as well and thought it was funny, like you said the only reason for paint missing is movement, on a new vehicle.

And you don't feel the clunk whatsoever in the steering wheel. Feel is in the floor pan though.

I would love to be wrong (because it may solve the problem) but I am confident they are not cracks, they would never be that perfectly straight, and if in fact they were cracks they would rust within hours of getting wet and im sure they've been wet before and theres no rust visible.

looked at my own truck and they look like forming marks, i.e. the part was most likely stamped out of a sheet of steel and then formed in a press leaving those two edges meeting together (some more precise than others) which may be why yours looks more like a crack than other trucks. I think we can safely lay the "crack" situation rest.

Welcome. What was the build date on yours?

Would it be possible to fasten a GoPro, or similar, underneath there and film while replicating? Whoops, didn't see VectorZ's suggestion until after...

Yep, since 1 week, i bought it 2 week ago.
Wowwww I’m sorry to hear you are sharing in the same issue that we are. I say wow because for a while I was thinking it was only affecting the Laramie and higher trims excluding the rebel... but clearly not the case since you have a rebel and the same issue. It’s beginning to sound like a bad batch of something during the span of time for builds in the summer. Just my observations so far.
