My RAM 1500 is in the shop for the second time in my first month of ever owning a Ram--First time was with only 800 miles and now with 2,200. The first time they said they couldn't replicate the noise I described. Today they call and again said they couldn't replicate it. So I agreed to drive the 30 minutes to my dealer to ride with the shop foreman. I only got the brakes to squeal once while he was in the truck, but at least it was the same high-pitched noise I've played for the service reps.

When we got back, the woman in service was almost questioning him right in front of me: "Is it bad squealing or just normal?" "You only heard it once..!?

I swear. I drove a Silverado 15 years before upgrading to this new RAM--$45,000 later and I've been to the service department three times in the first month. I'm trying hard to love my RAM, but the dying bird noise every time I break is ridiculous.

Just show them these

S1805000008 and TSB 05-001-19

The first is for front brake squeal. The second is only if you have the Chewbacca mating call when backing out in the morning. No need for them to "experience" it.

I too was a 30+ year Chevy guy and the '19 brought me over. Frustrating for sure but keeping positive they can fix what they can fix. I'll fix the the rest...haha. The $64K MSRP on my truck thought it would be a little better. Getting out the door with lifetime warranty and trade in with only $28K left to me I can't complain besides a truck payment again for a bit. Will figure things out is my state of mind.

Well, dealer picked my truck up Tuesday to take care of the rear brake issue (4th time they have worked on the rear brakes). Now Thursday and I still don't have my truck back!
Meanwhile I'm stuck driving a piece of junk they brought me. In all my years as a Ford owner I NEVER witnessed this kind of mess.
Getting tired of hearing my father who bleeds Ford blue say "I told you not to buy a Dodge son".
I've decided to take it a dealer (If I ever get it back) other than the one I bought the truck at and see what happens. I have a few other issues they haven't been able to fix either.
If the next dealer is no better I'm headed back to my Ford dealer of of 15 years to confess my sins and beg forgiveness!

Sorry to hear that. I will say my dealer gave me a brand new truck to drive while they work on mine. Had 10 miles on it when I got it. Its a 2019 classic. It is a good comparison of how much stuff they changed on the redesign.

Hello badgerguy22,

We're sorry to hear you've been having a hard time with your new Ram. Is there a case created on the customer care side? Send me a direct message as we'd be glad to get one started and help in the best way possible.

My dealer called me today and told me my truck was ready. They replaced the pads on the front, but didn't address the TSB for the rear. I asked them to look at the TSB # I gave them. They called back and told me they'd need to get back with me on Monday. I dont' want to have to bring it back again....

I had the same thing with the rear brakes. Gave them the TSB number, explained to them multiple times it was the rear brakes. They put front brakes on, called me back in twice for 4 hours each time only to end up saying "We don't have the parts for your rear brakes". Then why did you bring me back in here??? FCA customer rep finally took over and got the parts shipped to the dealer.
My truck was back at the dealer last week, they picked it up Tuesday morning, after hearing nothing I called on Thursday about noon and was told it's completed and they are bringing it back to me. Friday came, still no truck, called three times on Friday and was told each time "We are leaving with it in a few minutes" 4:15 Friday I had to drive an hour to the dealer to pick up my truck.
Hopefully the rear brakes are fixed, they couldn't tell me what all they had done for a week, and didn't even have a service ticket printed up when I got there.

Truck is in for front and rear brake issues.. woohoo!

When I dropped it off the service guy said they would check it out and probably 2-3 weeks for parts. Haha, at least they now know what is needed.

Explained that I already had been in a few weeks ago and got the call the parts were there. Will see how it goes but showed them the picture of the newer brake pad and asked that if they sent the older ones not to do anything.

Waiting game now

Picked up the truck and got home to read the service notes. No front brake work done!

Went in first thing this morning and didn't have the backing growl noise when backing so that was good. However, my rear camera went blue.

First in line and spoke with the asst service manager that ordered my parts. He remembered and even told me the parts department even told him there were front brake parts. He apologized, but really?

Needed my truck today so he said I could bring it in tomorrow for the front brakes, camera, and mirror noise. Will see if they can get the passenger side roof drain plug fixed too.

Come on man!

EDIT:

I went through what I did this morning in my head before backing out. I believe I shut off the front parking sensors (as they were warning since I was close to my garage door) while the system was booting up. I wanted complete silence when backing up for the first time. Camera went blue when putting into reverse. Couldn't get it to come back on. Shut off truck, started it several times to no avail, even when I was waiting for the service center to open. Was first in line and the people inside probably thought I was nuts.

I did notice that the screen would never go into "boot" mode again. Where it says to accept and then continues slowly until completely up. It would just come directly on without a boot.

I let the truck set for an hour in the driveway and went back out to check. This time the system went through the accept "boot" and the camera cam back.

Just in case anyone has this happen thought I would post the update. I'm not adjusting, turning off/on, anything anymore until the 12" screen is totally up.

Sounds like you and I have similar experience with our dealers. I'm going to a different dealer to see if I have any better service. My truck has been to the dealer I purchased it from numerous times now, not one trip has been a good experience. Each time ends in leaving with all or most of the same issues I came in with. Very unorganized and unprofessional.
I have my fingers crossed the next dealer will be better but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Prior to the RAM i used the same dealer (Ford) for all purchases and 100% of my service work for the last 15 years. Only reason I purchased the RAM was because I liked the new style and was just ready to have something different, figured I could build a relationship with the RAM dealer as I had with my Ford dealer, becoming more and more obvious that likely won't happen.

The dealer where I bought it from was giving me the run around about this issue since 11/2018. I had them take the decals off my truck and they didn't heat them up before removing and pulled paint (small rock chip look) off where the two RAM logo's are on the sides of the truck. They stated rock chips...really, a rock jumped through the RAM badge and removed paint without affecting the badge? Measurements verified they are right behind where the badges used to be. They have the best service rating in the area too...crazy. I was a Chevy guy for 25 years and also had a good relationship with the last one. Here's to hoping I can build one with RAM as well.

Best of luck finding a dealer that helps you on the RAM!

This is the second and only dealer withing 30 minutes of me, the others jump to over an hour away. They are more responsive and at least own up to a mistake and offer to correct it, so that's a plus anyway.

I went through the forums and noticed newer TSB's for this brake issue. They ordered off the 05-001-19 which includes the most parts to replace (early fix?). The other two gradually remove parts for the fix and the newest one, 05-002-19 only has a kit to order which I can't find what it is. Regardless, the chewbacca noise when reversing in the morning isn't there anymore at the moment.

April 10, 2019 - Rear Brake Noise - # 05-001-19 REV. A

Looks like they found a way to correct the problem using a few brackets to increase the stiffness on the caliper by tying it into the axle housing and eliminate the vibrations causing the noise. The latest TSB is a much cheaper option probably saving Ram 100s of thousands of dollars in repair costs.

They left the paperwork on the countertop while they went to get my truck for me. I looked through the paperwork they keep and the cost of the parts were $592 for just the back brakes. I bet you nailed it and they've found a cheaper "fix".

The dealership service asst manager called me back and told him about the rear camera coming back and what I think I did to cause it, and correct it. Just in case he sees that in the future. Don't think the 12" display likes being interrupted with button pushes while it's booting up.

Told him I didn't want to bring it in tomorrow and rush mine or someone else's truck, so we scheduled for next week. He will take a look at all my other issues at that point too. Happy with their follow up and willingness to resolve my issues thus far.

Its not just the 12" screen, I think its the uconnect software in general, I have had similar issues with the 8.4. it seems like if you try changing things around while its booting up it just $hits the bed. I pushed the power button on the stereo to turn off the radio while I shifted into reverse to back up and lost the camera, no blue screen, nothing, pressed the power button again to turn things back on and nothing, took a good minute or 2 for the whole system to reset and work again properly, another time I was in a drive through and the front parking sensors were beeping so I went to turn them off while it was beeping and it locked up and just continued to produce a steady high pitch noise until I put it in park and completely shut the truck off and restarted it. Not to say only Rams do this, I had several software gremlins in my GMC intellilink as well. They just don't multitask very well, could be bad code, or just inadequate hardware for handling multiple commands at the same time.

Got word today that the parts for the rear brakes are backordered until 5/23. I can say that RamCares has been on top of this. I have been getting daily updates from the service manager and a rep from FCA. Really happy with how I've been treated and appreciate RamCares for reaching out to me.

Glad to hear they are taking care of you. FCA rep worked to get my back brake parts shipped to the dealer and kept me informed of the progress. Not one time did I hear from the dealer, once the FCA rep told me the parts were delivered to the dealer she said "they will be calling you shortly to schedule the work". Well I knew they wouldn't but just wanted to prove it so I waited a few days, no call from the dealer. I had to call them to make the appoitment, they actually said and I quote, "Can you call us Monday to remind us we are supposed to pick it up and work on it Tuesday". I think my jaw hit the floor, didn't know what to say to that. Guess I'm supposed to keep a calendar for them LOL

Rained and cooled a bit last night, no noise this morning so Fingers Crossed, hopefully it won't sound like I tore the side out of the truck backing out of the drive anymore.

2 days of colder weather and combined with both rain and snow.

2 days in a row backing out of my drive no longer produces that gawd awlful sound anymore.

Fingers crossed!

I went in today for this TSB, a new steering wheel and 2 recalls. Oops, the brake parts are on back order. Not a total waste tho and I do like the service advisor I work with at my dealer.
