Fingers Crossed...Brake Squeal Resolved

Anything you think you might be able to escalate with my situation as well? I had sent a private message on the matter before.

My truck has been squealing when backing up for a while. I had the rotors and brake pads replaced. But lately it has been doing it more than normal because of all the snow we've had. The brakes squeal when the brakes are not applied. The more pressure you apply to the brakes the less it squeals, then when you release the brakes it squeals again. I did not have this information the first time I went to the dealer for the issue, but will tell them about it this time. For those having trouble trying to replicate the noise at the dealer, I run the truck through the carwash, then park it in their lot overnight, so when they back it out in the morning it makes the noise.

Long shot, but I wonder if the rear brakes are dragging a bit on some of these trucks. Mine too make the sound when I back up and I’m not even on the brake. Could explain some of the really poor MPG posts?

***Follow Up***
Received a call from the dealership stating they could not recreate the sound and therefore could not authorize the fix. Even though the last time I brought in the truck, they were able to recreate the issue and told me nothing could be done until the TSB was released! Talk about a frustrating experience.

I called them back and made them recheck their previous notes and get back to me. My gut tells me they will tell me there is nothing they can do and to bring it back if it happens again before 12K miles. As I am currently at 4K and we are heading into warmer weather, I am probably SOL. What a joke! Especially for a ~$60K truck.

***UPDATE***

Received a call back after telling the dealer to take another look at their notes to hear they have ordered the parts and have approved the work. The parts are on back order until April 15th, but I am just relieved they have agreed to the fix. Will update once the truck is actually fixed!

I’m having the TSB performed in a few weeks. I’m averaging 13.7 MPG with 4,000 miles, which are overwhelmingly highway miles. I’ll update if MPG improves.

Lydia,my truck is making the howling sound and the brakes squeak. It’s after the truck sits over night or when I leave work. It must be something to do with the truck being in park while the brakes are locked for awhile..maybe water or moisture in the air that builds up has something to do with it. I would like this problem fixed.

Where do I send you a private message. I need an email to send private message.

The only time I get squeel is after driving on salted roads. If I wash the truck and make sure to spray the bakes out well the sound goes away.

When I wash my truck I clean the wheels and the brake area out..still does it. I’ve also wondered if salt has something to do with it also or the sand dust that blows in the air. Either way my 56,000$ Ram shouldn’t be doing it. I got it end of November.

I have 7700 miles in 4 months and have new 33x12.50x20 Ridge Grapplers installed. I have had squealing brakes since day 1. I just work too much and don't have time to get to a dealer to look at the issue. :(
Other than that, I love the truck.

My dealer could not recreate the squealing. It seems to only occur when moisture is in the air and in reverse after sitting all night.. He refused to replace pads under warranty since he could not recreate it. I am not sure how to get this fixed or just live with it.

I would definitely not live with it. You can take a video of the squealing and show them. If they still refuse, I would start looking for another dealer if possible. I have been lucky that my dealer takes my word for it. Problem is, they cant get the parts in because of the backorder.
