so glad I found this. Groans badly every morning pulling out of driveway in reverse. Time to call the dealer.

I get in it and back out my driveway the next morning and I hear a howling sound and once I drive forward I hear my brakes squealing as I drive so many feet down my street but then it goes away. It don’t do it every day. It did it to me last night when I got out of work at 10pm. I worked 8 hours so it was parked that long. It was raining out.

I put about 500 miles on my Big Horn and then changed from the stock 18” wheels and tires to the Laramie 20” wheels and tires. About 400 miles later I started getting the squeal. Have an appointment Saturday with the dealer. Will point this thread out to them, hopefully they can take care of it. Definitely right front.

Mine was at the shop Monday for exactly the same symptoms. They had to order brake pads, so back to the dealer I go again. Hopefully the new pads will stop this. Sound horrible when I back out of the drive in the morning. Does it a lot when I leave work as well.

Mine has gotten worse in the last 500 miles. I am now just over 2,000 miles. One thing on my list when I take it in.

My limited started howling in reverse at about 5k miles. I have 7600 and it hasn't gone away, told my local dealer and they said it was normal.. not happy with that explanation.

I noticed mine howling pretty much from the very beginning. I have 2800 miles now and have been noisy the whole way. Dealer ordered new pads (Not installed yet), but I also had this from an FCA representative that I took with me. " STAR case that may help with your brakes. It is STAR case #S1805000008". No idea what info goes along with that case#, but there was no argument about my brakes, they just looked at it then ordered the pads. Might take that number with you to the dealer an see if does you any good.

I'm having to argue with them about everything else but that's another story.

I have appointment next week on this issue. Service guy on phone said he just saw a bulletin on the issue. I'll have to see how they plan to resolve and I'll report back.

I called the dealership where I got my truck. Service manger said if it keeps doing it before I have it for a year to bring it in and they will take care of the issue..she also said it may need time for the pads to break in for the first 5000 to 8000 miles. I honestly don’t think that could be it but I’ll see. Service manger said she thinks I got a year or two warranty on it. I noticed when it rains out or because of the dew in the pm hours or am hours is when it does it.

I am told basic warrant on brakes expire after 12k miles. My truck now has 10k. My rear brake pads were replaced and they no longer make noise. However , my front right still does. Service dept ordered front brake pad and I am told they are on back order. I have had the truck in six separate times dating back to August 2018. I had to get Ram Services involved who have helped by working with the dealer so I appreciate that. Their is a service bulletin on the front breaks so why are they not producing Additional pads as they know they are needed.

Mine is the exact same scenrio. Only after overnight, and only backing out of driveway. If I get down the street and back up again, no squeal.

Have there been any updates to this issue? I just got my '19 limited back from the dealer who stated this was a "known issue", but CDJR has not figured out how to fix the issue. They said they could not fix the problem without direction from CDJR..... Keep in mind when I first brought the truck in, I was told by multiple techs it was a normal problem on all cars due to surface rust?? Never had another vehicle with this issue. I had to insist they take the truck in for them to realize there was an actual issue. The only think that made them take the truck was a recording I showed them.

I have 3 close friends with the 19 and all of them are having the issue with no help in resolving from anyone. I’ve recorded mine for the dealer but am waiting until something tangible comes out for a fix. Until then I am heavy on the brakes....

My dealer knew about it and said the parts to fix it were not available yet. It will be a recall he said. Not sure if that is accurate? Thanks

I seriously doubt it. Recalls have to be coordinated with the NHTSA and are almost exclusively connected to safety. Think of it this way, if they can't get sued over it, it won't be a recall. And by sued I mean wrongful death situations.

There could easily be a TSB or other dealer fix for it, once Ram engineers can duplicate and find a fix, but there won't be a recall unless someone dies over squealing brakes.

I wonder if they have changed the pads on the new builds? You would think after dealers demoing these cars for 4mo and experiencing this problem, a simple fix like different pads will enter into the supply chain.

My truck was built in August and it has the new pads. I took a flashlight and looked through the top of the caliper and could see a large finger width gap on the pad.

Anybody find one place that sells aftermarket pads yet? Rock Auto, NAPA, etc have nothing for the Ram. I bet when good after market pads are available I can make the squealing go away.

Mine is still doing this sometimes when in reverse and lightly braking when backing up. I have 9000 miles. I am debating whether to take it in before the 12K mile mark for this issue but I don't want to waste time if all they will say is it is normal. I don't understand why there is no official fix for this from Ram.

This noise isn't normal, I've bought a lot of new vehicles and installed a lot of brakes and never heard a noise like this backing up. Mine is going back next Friday to have the new pads installed. I had a star case number provided by FCA customer care that I took to the dealer. They looked it up, checked the truck and immediately said you need new pads. I'm not sure what's causing the noise, but the FCA care person used my VIN to find the STAR case number and dealer didn't give any resistance at all. If I were you I'd take it in and have it checked, you'll only be out a little time and hopefully get the issue resolved. These things cost too much $$ to make noise like this!
